Seems like a really interesting phone overall. Would have been nice to have series 60, but I guess the size of the screen suits series 40 better.
6820 looks good too...
Unfortunately it's not, the MMC is yet again put under the battery. You can see it if you have a look at the 3D demo of the phone on the Nokia website.

The MMC card is external and do press it in from the side.
Sorry, my fault. the MMC card is internal.

Looking at the 3d model on the nokia website and looked over the phone closely, i have come to the following conclusions
1. on the left hand side of the phone is the volume up/down rocker.
2. just below the volume up/down rocker is a bit of styling not unlike other nokia models.
3. on the right hand side at the top is the hole were you would insert the phone strap.
4. Just below this is a larger piece of plastic i think this is the infrared port, (as i cannot find it anyway else on the phone)
5. then below this is another piece of styling as the same as the other side of the phone.
6. ontop is the on/off switch
Just i thought

The nokia 6230 wont come out till 2004 right? :(
I'm gettin a new phone for christmas and that means i wont beable to get that one! Its either I wait for the 6230 or get the 6600?
Opinions please? Which on the whole is better? I know its hard to compare smart phones with erm...non smart series 40 phones but I just need some out side opinions. You see i like the fact that as said the nokia 6230 has practically everything apart from symbian o.s.
Anyway...stupid as i Might sound about phones....how good are the applications for nokia 6600?
Is it possible to have photo thumbnails in your contact list for nokia 6230?
And if no one knows cos its quite new then...hmm...anyway...
6600 or 6230?

My guess is it is a button to operate the camera with even though it appears to be on the back cover. If it has no other purpose but a design feature Nokia should leave it out, because in my opinion it doesn't make the phone look better. If it is the infrared eye, why didn't they "integrate" it like they did on the 6610 etc.? That looks much smoother, I think.

They are the same form factor.

How big can the cards be? I know it comes w/ a 32mb or 64mb, but i have a 256mb sd, would that work as well?

SD cards *DO NOT* fit into MMC card slots. As the Site Owner I am surprised that you could make such a mistake because I've never noticed one here before. That is what I have been ranting on about Nokia not putting SD card slots onto phones (especially my N-Gage). Yes, MMC will fit into and work in SD card slots but not the other way round.
SD cards are about 1mm thicker than MMC and have an extra pin for digital encryption though the share the same front-on form factor they are thicker.
I know because I have wondered why the hell Nokia didn't use SD (I'm guessing licensing to the designers of SD media) and I have various types of SD and MMC cards to try out in my handset.
So crazycraig03 your 256mb SD won't work (I have one of those from my Ipaq and that won't fit or work  ) though I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) you can get MMC cards up to 512mb and they should work in this phone - someone has already established they work in late firmware versions of the 3650 and all N-Gages and 6600s. However series 60 phones are different and the series 40 Nokia 3300 only handles 128mb I hear - when I get my 256mb MMC card in (can't afford 512mb) I will test it out with a mate's 3300 and post my results.
Hmmm, quite interesting. I don't know who is right because I never try to insert an sd card on an mmc slot. But I've heard that they will not fit. Actually quite glad to hear the statement from Michael that sd fits mmc.

Let me clarify. The 6600 and devices meant to read only MMC cards can not read all SD cards.
SD equipped devices can read all MMC cards, though.
6600 for example can not read a SD card. The card is too thick (at least the ones I have). The other dimensions of SD and MMC cards are the same, though.
Sorry for the confusion. Mea cupla.

Okay...just so I understand here. This MMC thing that you guys are all talking about...I can use that to store mp3's, photos, etc on this phone, yea?
Ohh, if only all of the phone reads both mmc and sd. Yes mmc card is a media which is use to store any kind of file. U can use it to store picture, music, application and many other things. But, if you store any file on it make sure the device that read the card (mmc or sd) support the file otherwise the device will not read any of the file.
