I was wondering wether with the N-Gage QD it doesn't have the hadware to support movie/music files or wether it just doesn't come with the software, if it doesn't support movie/music then I'll probbably get the 7610 on upgrade, and buy a SIM free QD, or one on PAYG.

http://www.howardchui.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=162&page=2 It says there you can install 3rd party software to play music? Is that true? Could you also install a third party app to play mp3's and movies?

Well, I presume you can install Ultramp3 for (mono) mp3 and Smart Movie for all your video clips and movies ...
Yea, you can add 3rd party software. But it might not be that impressive ...

Yup its Series 60 so you can install mp3 and video players.
Shaheen: I think there was a problem with the ngage and the streaming of vid clips because i had a friend that had a similar problem, but in the newer releases of Series 60 phones its been fixed. I can watch movies and vids on my 6600.

Frankly, if you want a MP3 player I would go with one of the higher capacity hard drive players (iPod etc.). Yes they cost more but boy are they so much better than having to constantly keep updating your file library.
N-Gage QD can play music and video files, but only with mono sound. Original N-Gage has a MP3 hardware chip so it can play MP3 in stereo. Also has a radio. So you might want to consider the original N-Gage too (sidetalking though). And I am sure you know 7610 is also mono sound.

Plus, it is a very nice gaming platform. There are already some good games available (e.g. Ashen, Ghost Recon, Sims, Fifa 2004) and a lot of promising titles announced. The N-Gage is an extremely versatile device.

Dre: Completely agreed, like i said just now, its the ngage's versatility as a multimedia device that keeps it alive. I dont think people will be buying it for actually using it as a phone for calls and sms's.

@Vippotja: i got a hd mp3 player already, 20gb movie +mp3 player. i need a bash around device just for extreme daily usage, cause im on the move alot and HD players arent really city terrain friendly.
@ruler: i checked out the phone today, is the size really that bad?..doesnt seem that bad to me, its just a lil flat thats all..
@everyone: i already have a gx32, like i said i just need a basharound device for on the move entertainment so ngages sidetalking wont be a problem, ill still be using my gx32 as main calling and actual communication device.
can soemone answer me these questions about it
1.how many mb card do they give in the package?
2.how good is the headset that comes with it?..any bass at all?
3.are there any good programs i should know of once i get the phone?
4.am i doing the right thing by goign for an ok phone that has ok games that plays ok mp3s rather then getting a fully wicked mp3 player with 256mb?

1. 32MB
2. I actually find the headset and loudspeaker quality to be really good.
3. There are a ton of really cool S60 programs to make the ngage even cooler. Send me a PM when you get the phone and il give you a list and where to get them.
4. In my opinion i think you are doing the right thing. Ngage is a really cool phone to have for multimedia (excluding camera), but you have a gx32 anyway so you dont need that anyway.

Yeah, since you already have a HD mp3 player, I would go for N-Gage (I mean does not harm to have a game device on the go too :), unless you are really looking for something really small for e.g the gym.

I'm OK with mono sound, I'm not that fussed. And I much prefer the look of the N-Gage QD, the N-Gage is just so ugly (to me).

Mike UK: But the QD is so useless cause it has no music capabillities. Most people that bought the Ngage wanted it for its stereo radio and mp3 player.

thanks for the reply. thats exactly wat i was thinking, it would make a good combo, ngage and gx32, i mean both of them have totally seperate abilities, ngage has the games, bluetooth, video playback and smartphone abilities my gx32 wont have, my gx32 will have mp camera, 262k colour screen that my ngage wont have. i wish there was a phone with both together though. but sooner or later there will be.

i dont go to the gym so it doesnt matter...

i love the qd design and the only reason im not getting it is cause its still 100 bux more then ngage which is bs to me... like seriously, what was nokia talking about that ngage qd will be ever so cheap! such scammers... paying more for a backward functional phone, but if i had the money id get the QD even if it was more expensive. its a brilliant phone. i played with it once and i cant get it out of my head. but alas the original ngage is the only one in my grasp.

Id take the original ngage over the QD. The QD is a rip off in everyway: More expensive and no mp3 or radio built in. If i wanted a dedicated games platform of that sort id get a GBA, i mean honestly who actually gets an Ngage to use as their primary phone?!

Total agree here. And in my place; QD is more expensive N-Gage

Noone, I guess. But: I have a N6230 that I really like, but after having bought an N-Gage QD (for gaming) I barely use the N6230 other than for playing mp3s. That is, the QD is my primary phone now. I think this wouldn't have happened with the original N-Gage though (because of its bigger size and, of course, because of this strange side talking).

Dre: True as well, i guess people dont use the ngage for calls cause of sidetalking, but heck they so cheap now, i dont see why everyone shouldn have one for gaming, mp3 and radio.

Nokia's advice on retail price for both N-Gage and N-Gage QD is $199. If retailers then sell N-Gage cheaper than QD, it is not really Nokia's fault.

yea, but its nokia that tells dealers how much to sell for, thats why in aus they got no choice but to sell higher then overseas cause companies such as nokia tell them to. thats why when u bargain with them they wont reduce the price cause thats the price they were told to sell at.

I think that this is an illegal practice almost everywhere in the world and I suppose in Australia as well. I think it is the rules of the market that keeps the prices high (and, of course, Nokia is a big player in the market, but nothing more).

Nope, the reason manufacturers came with control prices is to control the distribution of the products, they do it with limited warranty (local warranty) as well. Not all distributors are the same in terms of company sizes, if they weren't controlling it; a whole region's (i.e. SouthEast Asia) distribution might be controlled or monopolized by a single distributor which can gallop more units than others and could demand a platinum price therefore killing other competitors. Of course, there are countries which have restrictions for overseas distributors (i.e. Malaysia) It's not illegal; the company i knew the most with control prices (and very very strict ones) were Sony.
