View Full Version : Price and Performance of SE P900
Hi to all,
I am a new guy to this Forum. I accidentially discovered SE P900 a month ago and fell in love at the 1st sight! :D
I am excitingly anticipating its arrival to HK market and curious to the price. You know, USD$1,300 for a phone + PDA is a bit crazy... Little Ant need to work hard for the luxurious toy...
BTW, I just know that Nokia 6600 is now in HK and asking HKD$3880 (~USD$500) each. Nokia Forum has messages mentioning USD$700! I am not sure to the correctness. But I hope u guys could give me some clue to the probably price of SE P900. How much would it most likely cost? The reference price of P800 in a week ago is HKD$4600, just below USD$600.
In addition, many thanks to Webmaster's detail review on the phone. I wonder the performance of P900 in HK. Since I have no idea about 1900 MHz network in the US, would the phone performs better in HK with 900 network?
Thanks!
wow ant . i DONT think the P900 will cost 1300 dollars.
its gonna go for about 800 in Sweden and it will go down to MAX 750 in a month or 2 so i would suggest that you whait to buy it after christmas

i actually found something:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3358610731&category=29023
it´s a german seller, but he´ll ship worldwide. 749€€€
sounds much better than 1300$ ;)
cheers

It sounds better if you are German and can just wire the money from your account to his with a normal fee-free bank transfer - something that people in North America can't do, for example.
I don't buy from Ebay at all - I don't trust it, the fraud level is too high. I'd never buy from ebay in another country, no matter what the price was.

I live in saudi arabia and i can't wait much longer but i need to buy it from a place where i can get it for a good price and can send it to them if i have any trouble with it
Mike i need to ask you an important question.
Im going to buy the P900 But i was thinking. The P900 is not really a new model. its just an uppgrade of the P800.
there is nothing really new about it, no new program or software.
and what if i buy the P900 now and 6 or 9 months later SE comes out with ANOTHER cellphone/PDA that is much better than anything else on the market.
i mean do you think that the P900 will rule the cellphone market like the P800 did for a long time?

I have no idea if SE is coming out with something new. They have not given me any reason to believe so.
Of course you can assume that eventually there will be a replacement for it, there always will be.
That's like not buying a PC because next month they will be faster/cheaper. They will *always* be faster and cheaper in the future.
If you have a P800, I'd sit on it. If not, then the P900 is a good phone.
ok well good thing i dont have a P800 hehe
btw i was thinking, wont P800 users be kinda pissed off when P900 comes out? i dont think that you could compare it to the T68 and the T68i, because those who owned a T68 got angry because they relased a better phone months after they baught theres.
but the P800 has been out for like 2 years now

Actually the P800 has been out for less than 1 year, and only about 8 months in good stock. I don't think they will be pissed. I know that when I buy a phone, I will expect a better model to come out soon. The mobile industry is moving so fast nowadays, it would be foolish to expect your phone to be "top dog" for more than 1 year.

Those who originally bought/upgraded to the P800 when it first came out would be very near to the end of their extended yearly contract meaning they will be able to upgrade to the P900 a month after release. Can't speak for everyone of course, but I'm under the impression that mobile users generally upgrade on a yearly basis to have the latest coolest phones, so the majority of P800 users shouldn't be too vexed about the P900.
I have heard a few things (cant remember where I read them) that there will be a proper successor to the P800/900 in summer/autumn 2004 (announcement summer, release 2004) but nothing confirmed. There is also a 'budget' version due to come out before then, early 2004 (announcement). Again nothing confirmed.
Michael's absolutely right with the pc comparison. There'll always be a newer, better device on the horizon. There's no point in constantly stalling on buying a new device for the next new device. If you see something you like go for it. upgrade later.

i found it in two web pages in one it 1249 Dollers and in the other one its 549 Pounds and both prices are high and on the SE developers web it says its 650 dollers but where can i get it for that price i'm really losing it i cant stand my phone any longer ..to many errors battery dying Can take it any more ... :P
please HELP!!!
he he...
I don't have the problem of choosing between P800 and P900...
since I had bad experience of 7110's initial production batch, many bugs in the OS. Very disappointing!
thus, I made up my mind of waiting for mature model whenever I spot a good phone, at least some later production batch.
Hope P900 would have gradually improving production batches...!
:D

i think anyone who is interested in the p900 wait until monday, nov 3rd. the price is going to drop to the 800-900 USD range, as supply increases.
noticed many websites that have been selling units +1,000 USD have dropped the price as of friday

I have not noticed a problem like that.
The apps appear to load faster a bit, in general. That is probably due to just having more RAM.

mgelidan,
I bought my P900 from Dubai. I paid US $ 850 for it total, which included FedEx shipping to Bahrain. If you still want one at that price from Dubai send me a PM and, I'll connect you to the person that is selling them.

thanks for the info
Michael i have a question
i have heard that the P900 can recognize words instead of letters. for example you can handwrite " hello" with the Jotter. instead of hand writing H E L L O singel using the Jotter
so is it a Word recognizer or Letter Recognizer??
I have tested the letter recognizer option on my brothers Motorola A920 and its kinda uncomfertable cause you have to write every letter by hand and it doesnt recognize all of them and so on.
Michael

It is a character based recognition system, like Graffiti on the palm OS.
dont know what that is
havent owned a Palm before
