Hi

I have been banging my head against the wall for the past few days now after buying a new nokia 6230 mobile.

The problems i am experiencing is with BT sync, Nokia Phone Browser and MP3 uploads (not too many issues then?)

I can pair with a 7650 and send and recieve files via BT, so it doesn't appear to be the BT issue.

I can successfully pair with my laptop and browse the folders via "my bluetooth places" But when i try and click on the mobile in Nokia Phone Browser the PC hangs. Any attempt to transfer MP3s to the MMC (256mg or 32mg card) stalls after a few hundred bytes.

I have followed other peoples posts and renamed the MMC card/formatted etc. Even tried to turn off as many features as possible to see if that would help.

The version of my nokia is 04.28 (I believe is the latest)

The BT dongles work well with my old 7650 and work 6310i

I even removed those pairings and repaired the 6230 to no avail!

I am using PC Suite 6.3.14 from nokias website

Well and truely stumped with this one. The misses is getting fed up with me because I am really stubburn when it comes to problems like this so I need your help guys as I really like the phone and want it to work.

Cheers
Tim

Try this: Uninstall both your driver for your bluetooth dongle and your 6230 pc suite.
Re-install the driver for your bluetooth dongle first. Then install your pc suite ( I honestly haven't tried this but I read it at another forum, hope it helps).

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried this but no joy

I have noticed the following as well

When trying to use the Nokia Phone Browser the explorer.exe runs at 100% causing complete system unstableness (bad english)

I have now tried PC suite versions 6.1 (CD) 6.2 and 6.3 from Nokia. I have also tried using only the MS bluetooth drivers on SP2 (Yep just installed today) still no joy.

I have two PC's one with a IR port as well (which isn't 100% reliable, which doesn't help) but I cannot sync with that either although the PC and mobile look connected!? That PC is runnning windows 2000 the other XP Pro. I am completly confused.

Perhaps the phone is faulty? A reflash or exchange? How easy is it to reflash? Could the Firmware/SW be tied into the SIM somehow?

I did take the phone into Orange to see if they could help. They said they hadn't had any reports of issues with this phone. Three of the staff already had one.

Oh yes finally i noticed the two MP3's I managed to transfer by BT on my phone jutter on playback. Only a small jump every few seconds but enough to deem the player poor. Is this something that other users have noticed?

Cheers

Tiro,

I received my 6230 yesterday and am going through the same problems as you have reported. My machine is running XP SP2. I initially used the standard Microsoft Bluetooth drivers and found that I could Synchronise contacts but could not browse the mobile phone. I have now installed the WIDCOMM drivers that came with my Bluetooth dongle, but can only browse using the WIDCOMM utility - the Browse Phone utility freezes up my machine (both the link in My computer and the link in PC Suite.) I have also tried PC Suite version 6.4 and have the same problem.

I have found the MP3 to be Okay on the phone, and suggest that it might be the bit rate that is causing you a problem - maybe a slightly lower bitrate might solve your problem.

I have found that the Phone Browser works OK using IrDA from an XP Pro laptop. I am considering buying a USB lead - however this defeats the whole object of buying a bluetooth phone as far as I am concerned :-)

I know this post does not help much, apart from hopefully letting you know that it is not just you who is having the problem.

anybody else experiencing this? any solutions or suggestions?

im planning to buy a 6230 soon...

and as sncooper said, buying a BT fone that has problems with BT really defeats the purpose of having one... :p

Hi, I thought I would post an update here for anyone else who is having problems - and perhaps save someone else's sanity :-)

I have finally resolved my problem, however quite a drastic solution in the end.

I have found the support guys at the Nokia Club UK to be very helpful in helping to troubleshoot - certainly worth registering your phone with them and calling them up :-) they are open until 9pm.

Nokia talked me through uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers step-by-step, but it soon became clear that in my desparate efforts to upgrade drivers etc. I had previously screwed my machine.

Various things were suggested, including temporarily removing anti-virus software and re-installing bluetooth and PC Suite from scratch - unfortunately this did not work. We might have solved the problem eventually, but I decided in the end to re-build my machine (it had had viruses in the past, and know knowing what had been damaged in the past!.)

What worked for me:

Step A: The Phone.
1. Rename the Expansion card on the Phone - VERY IMPORTANT - it must not have the word card or mem in the name, and no spaces either ! my original name 'memcard' caused loads of problems - something like 'stuff' or 'music' works very well ... this can be done using the Setting in the Gallery menu of the Phone.
2. In Bluetooth settings: name the phone - I decided to play safe and not have a space in the name - I just named it 'simon'.
3. Clear out any 'paired' devices from the phone.
3. Switch on 'My Phones Visibility' to On.
4. For good measure, switch the phone OFF, and then back ON.

Step B: The PC
1. I Reinstalled XP Home.

2. Installed SP2.

3. I let the PC detect the Bluetooth USB Dongle - note that I am using the standard Microsoft drivers that were installed with Service Pack 2 --- they do work ! and I have absolutely no complaints despite some of the criticism I have read (high praise from a UNIX guy :-) ). Absolutely no need to install WIDCOMM drivers.

4. Installed Outlook and PC suite.

5. Clicked on the Bluetooth icon on the system tray (bottom right of screen) and paired my Phone with the PC. I let Windows suggest the key number to use (not that important, you can choose 123 for the key if you like !) The phone asks you to accept the connection.

6. Microsoft Bluetooth automatically installed Bluetooth COM Ports and related services like Phone Modem, serial ports etc. I checked the device manager - in my case the Ports created were COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6 in the device Manager (COM3=Modem.)

7. Opened the PC Suite 'Manage Connections' utility, and ticked 'Microsoft bluetooth' and removed the other ticks. I searched for the phone and completed the pairing process.

8. Tested 'Browse files' program, and PC Sync.

All now works a dream !!

Other information:
1. I am using Norton Internet security 2005 as my Firewall/anti virus - I have disabled the XP firewall.
2. My Phone firmware is 04.28 (type *#0000# in the phone to see this.)
3. My Bluetooth dongle is a "Safecom 100M" and cost me about £15.

As I said a drastic solution, but it proves to me that the software does work. I had previously used Active sync, I uninstalled it but don't know if this caused problems. Unfortunately I never got to the bottom of the problem I was having, but at least my machine is nice and clean again !

Hope the above is of help to someone !

Hi,

A have had a secondary problem with my connection whereby the connection kept dropping during uploads/downloads to the phone.

I discovered that my Apple Airport (802.11b / 802.11g wireless) was interfering with the Bluetooth connection during large transfers - there is an option on Airports called "Interface Robustness" switching this on causes the Airports to 'drown out' other devices running on 2.4GHz - therefore turning this off remedied the problem I was having with bluetooth !!

A second item that is usefull is a Microsoft article that indicates there are problems with Bluetooth dropping connections, and advises adding a registry setting - might help someone :-)
