Anyway its a pity they didnt have the full photos up yet. I think for 7260 there's nothing special except the design and from here 7270 looks like 6170 ;)

we kinda know that the 7260 won't have much features and 7280 doesn't look like those with keypad so that leaves 7270 with some hope.

from that tiny pic of the 7280 it looks like a chocolate bar..... i think flip and clamshell phones is the way to go...or anything that can be folded up, eg: flip, clamshell, swivel, slider.... candybar is sooooooo last century...

from the press release:
Nokia 7280: Lean, Sublime Lines
The sleek and sexy Nokia 7280 offers a completely new mobile phone design, foregoing the traditional keypad for a discreet keyless dial. A fine lacquer-inspired high-gloss finish, complemented by leather and mirror accents, add sophistication and style making this device as much a work of art as an advanced piece of technology.
Perfect to whip out at cocktails, the Nokia 7280 is geared to attract attention and become the talking point at any high glamour soiree. Its VGA camera can snap the latest and greatest while the active slide means calls can be answered or ended with a flick of a wrist.
The handset's chic strap and carrying pouch keep this hot accessory close at all times. Using the Nokia Collector, you can transfer your favourite photos, ringtones, wallpapers, music and videos from the Nokia 7280 to and from your Mac. For a fashionable handsfree experience, style mavens can plug in the Nokia Wireless Image Headset, also introduced today. Truly, the Nokia 7280 is the fantasy phone for the fashion-conscious.
Nokia 7270: Detailed Deco
The boldly stylish Nokia 7270 draws its design inspiration from the Garbo-esque glamour of the 1920s. Encased in an etched stainless steel housing, this fold design accents your wardrobe with a matching textile wrap, carrying strap and pouch to reflect your personal style and mood.
Whether shopping in New York, Paris or Shanghai, a second opinion is merely clicks away thanks to the Nokia 7270's VGA camera. Converting clothes or shoe sizes is a snap with the clever Converter application. Tune out in style with the FM radio and fashion headset or tap away on games like Chic Pinball.
Nokia 7260: Flamboyant Fashion
Materials, graphics and colour palette set the Nokia 7260 apart. Featuring chrome and steel accents, this Art-Deco-meets-Industrial-Design concept is certain to be a favourite of fashion-minded crowd. To stand out in a crowd, consumers can enhance the style of their Nokia 7260 with daring accessories, like stylish straps and carrying pouches.
Jetsetters can easily call home with the Nokia 7260's tri-band capabilities, or send celebrity sightings using the VGA camera. The Nokia 7260 allows users to step out in style every day.
they only have VGA cameras

It seems these are they are fashion phones.
I find it rediculous that the 7260 only has VGA cam cause i thought it was going to be pretty much the same as the 7610 (they look similar)
I guess looks can be deceiving! %(

Yup. I gues the fashion world don't really need bluetooth, unless there's a Nokia fashion BT headset :).
Viipottaja
09-09-2004, 08:07 AM
Yeah, that's a pity. Would be useful for headsets (but I guess you are right, the headset would also have to have some design feature as the idea of a fashion phone is that you show it off all the time :) ). Not a biggie in my mind for data transfer as none of these are Symbian.
MP3 player in one of them would have been a nice touch too.

09-09-2004, 11:14 AM
people who tend to buy fashion phones dont care about features.
I had a girl come in to the store, and I did EVERYTHING in my power to convince her that the 3200 was an appauling phone and we'd had loads of faults with it, and she still bought it!!
Interesting idea tho, but I doubt the 7280 will sell well simply because the lack of keypad will confuse average-joe public, they'll want one of Nokia's more basic handsets that 'looks nice' :/

09-09-2004, 11:48 AM
Ruler70, I doubt you can yet squeeze in 1mp camera in such a small phone. In any case, this would probably have increased the price a bit too much.
Deadalus, yeah 7280 is unlikely to sell a whole lot, but I don't think Nokia necessarily thinks that it should either. It's one of those phones to keep up the hype and us writing and discussing on the forums etc. :) I might buy it though if it does not cost too much. Just for fun and show.

just to get something clear, it really gets on my nerves when people type 'Deadalus' rather than 'Daedalus', i know it seems petty but its just one of those things, otherwise people think my names all gothic and something to do with death, which is definetely does not.

I absolutely agree. Hype can do wonders even if it's negative. I remembered that when 8810 came out, it had this mirrored surface which smudges completely but the fone sold so well. The way 7280 is constructed, it should not cost too much to manufacture and the mechanism inside is fairly simple even with a supposedly complex voice recognition system (if it shd work well). Of course, they don't expect it to sell much, but it proves that Nokia is pretty much the ONLY phone company who dares to innovate through industrial design and bear in mind, this has nothing to do with commercial success. This is another example of R&D, disregarding success or functionality. It beats having every clamshell in silver or candybar in black/silver etc. So far, only Nokia (and to a certain extent, SE) has VISIBLE innovation in design and with Nokia leading the pack with wild designs.

Viipottaja: The thing is that in this day and age we dont want 128x128 phones with hardly any features being released, regardless who its aimed at. It defeats the whole purpose of a fashion phone as well, cause you cant really express your art on a screen that small.
One thing i must commend nokia on is their standardisation (finally) of putting 65k screens in all their new devices. (excl. 2600 and 2650, but these arent the latest announcements)
All three phones are useless to me because they do not have bluetooth. Please correct if I'm worng. Nice design though....

Ruler 70: just look at the sales figures of 7200. 5th biggest seller for Nokia. Fashion phones are not all about what you can show on the screen, nor about other techie features. Well, let's just wait and see how it sells, may not sell that well but who knows. :)

09-10-2004, 09:30 AM
Viipottaja: I guess you right, but then again look at the 6230 - Best seller at the moment and obviously its because of its features, so all im saying is that Nokia could have secured great sales for these phones, if they had included a wider array of features.
Right now im more interested in business phones, so my next nokia's are going to be 6260 or 6630 and 9300 or 9500.

Imagine combining the picture handset with the 9500 brick - most of the time you could leave the 9500 in a bag, and only bring it out for things like web access, email and real work.

Its the old school way (apparently)
You scroll around and around until you get to "C". Press enter
You scroll around and around until you get to "A". Press enter
Keep doing that until you get the message "CALL ME" or something.
Same with numbers I think
Not confirmed. Just guessing ...

you can, but it's going to be slower than typing it by hand. owning that particular phone is ok for people who don't write msgs alot. After all, it's a fashion phone. I'm amazed that it supports stereo output and plays MP3s, I wonder what is the size/capacity of the phone memory. hmm..

It just seems like its not a very practical phone to use for anything.
You cant even use it upright as the screen displays sideways.
Dont forget that the phone collapses into itself and thus it becomes smaller.
