I just got a little excited about the 9300 as it was a small version of the old ones and a bit smaller then the 9500... Then I read it doesn't have a camera like the 9500. What on earth are Nokia doing? They could have at least put a 0.3mp camera in it. Won't be getting that one then..... "thought to self... look at Motorola A768 with Linux OS"

Yup. But this is targetted to business people, and quite a few business' ban phones with cameras to be used within it's premises :(...

p.s. ooh pics looks pretty cool...

The company my dad works for (Drugs/medication) don't allow camera phones. Hopefully Nokia will realease a click on camera for it... (Wishful thinking)

Yaris.. there was a click on camera for the 9290 (9210) Ive seen them on ebay, but Since Ive sold my 9290 havent been looking - I wonder if it would work with the 9300.

To the topic:
I think this looks better then the 9500, the sliver finish is nice. BUT, they really need sto announce phones and release them sooner for us! :)

9300 is only alittle smaller then 9500 its the weight thats alot of difference. Anyway are they gonna release more phones end of the year?

I reckon it will have Pop-Port on it, no questions asked, so any Pop-Port camera should work fine on it.

9000, 9000i, 9000il, 9110, 9110i, 9210, 9210i, 9500, 9300.

Don't forget 9290! US version of the 9210i, more or less.

There are a couple of pop-port cameras, I'm sure they will work with the 9300.

Some article said that the 9500 will be shipping by October, and I think the 9300 is reportly going to be shipping 4-5 weeks after that. That's not too bad!

Wowzers! What if someone owns a camera phone on a contract if some businesses ban them?

Anyways I agree. the 9300 is great for those travelling businessmen/women or geeks who want a 'lighter' 9500 communicator and find the camera not important/or allowed in certain places.
Overall I am pretty impressed with the design. With it closed, it resembles a normal everyday looking nokia. Whereas others like the 9500 are 'more professional' looking, which I also like.
If its going to be good or not for its intended purpose, we'll have to wait and see.

"thought to self... look at Motorola A768 with Linux OS"I don't see any problem at all with a lack of a camera - especially a VGA one. In most any handset on the market, I'd give up the VGA camera to have it weigh 5g less.

It was rather squarish... I saw one on ebay but sold my 9290 shortly after so i didnt bother buying it :)

This could mean a higher rez for the 9300 may be a possibility. Neat idea.. :)

If I understand it correctly, it's thinner than a Nokia 6600, it's actually just a millimeter thicker than a 6230. It's nearly 70 g lighter, 5 mm thinner and 2.6 cm (roughly 1 inch) shorter than the 9210i

Honestly, I like the phone. I'm just not sure how easy it is to use the keypad, but I like what's in the phone. If you can actually create, edit and view Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents in this model ( is this what is meant by "word/excel/powerpoint compatible"?) then I'd really be happy.

anybody knows how much it will cost??? the 9500 is said to be in the range of $1K, and yes, i heard it will be out 42nd week, pre-orders are now being accepted... might be wise to wait for the 9300 and compare the 2 actual units before jumping on the 9500...

the no-cam is a good move... a BT enabled sony mavica with 5MP will be great, and how about a pop-port wi-fi attachment???

Dynamoo

I saw a figure quoted of about $800 unsubsidised price. I think that's a lot cheaper than the 9500. Don't forget, the camera, WiFi and larger battery are hardly expensive products. I understand that the camera hardware these days is a couple of bucks.

The camera/no-camera argument has been raging for a while. Personally I think the camera on the 9500 was a mistake, and cameras *do* cause problems with security. A lot of our customers are in electronics and military fields, and they're not keen on them.. including Nokia and Sony Ericsson ironically :)

The Register speaks of a price between $785 and $845.

it doesnt always work like that, the nokia 3300 has pop-port but doesnt recognise any of the nokia cameras...

Yup, you can read & write word/excel/ppt files on this and the 9500. Not all of the fancy features are supported, but the basic ones are. There are Zip file applications & Adobe Acrobat applications for the 9210, so I expect those will also come to the 9500/9300. Oh, and the bluetooth printing profile is supported, so you can print over bt (& infrared) if you have such a printer.

i heard that most of the existing applications for the 9210i will be compatible with the 9300/9500, and if it is not, there will be a very minimal things to do to port it...

They must have shrunk the size of the main display down somehow. I wonder how the physical sizes of the 9300 and 9500 compare with the 9210i which is just about right in the screen size department.

btw, did anyone else notice that this isn't the "Nokia 9300 Communicator" (like the 9500) but is just the "Nokia 9300".

its not even a significant size reduction. the mpx is still much better then this thing yet its so small and nicer.

Yes, I'm thinking that too. Would be cool if it was really a light light communicator. Though if the buttons are too small, then it'll be a little hard to use (like how the MPx buttons look a little too small...).

I think the size of Nokia 9300 looks very impressive. I mean, it is smaller than 3650: 2 mm longer, but 5mm thinner and about 4mm slimmer!! That sounds pretty good to me.

Ps. Does anyone know if/think you can get Wifi by some add on through the UBS port?

its a pop-port connector... well, we can hope for it... but if it has BT IP pass through, and DUN, then there are other possibilities...

how about a BT for wi-fi.... ehehehe :D
