hello everyone

i am new to this forum
just as evryone is showing so much interest in the nokia 6600, i would like to give my own review on this phone

i think it is one of the best phones nokia has ever made

1.the camera is just awesome
even after zooming the picture comes as clear as possible

2.video recording is also good, but with a limitation of 10 sec with sound and 15 sec without
but i have overcome this problem with a application known as ETI CAMCORDER (thanks to APOCALYPSO for letting everyone know abt this app.) the sound of the video recording is also good

3.nokia has given some trial softwares on the MMC which are worth trying and then buying ..... thats why they are kept in a folder called 'TRY AND BUY'

4.the only thing i would have loved in this phone is a RADIO.

believe me i have used something like 20 nokia cell phones and this is THE ONE.

i personally recommend it to everyone

plz ask me any questions on the nokia 6600 and i will surely answre them

Big firmware..:) Guess you are talking about the software included. Did you get the Opera web browser?

Can you listen to mp3 on the internal speaker, or do you have to connect the handsfree? Is there also a convertion process before the 6600 will accept mp3 files, or can you just drag and drop them on the mmc card?

rohan123
10-27-2003, 06:20 AM
derrick

yes the opera software is included

u can just drag and drop mp3 files

but if u do it via pc suite then it converts it into wav

Do you also have n-gage? Really want both those...
Does the 6600 have that plastic look some people have been talking about?

Well, it looks fine to me. It isn't as creaky as the 3650. Feels very solid.

Will the 6600 be able to play mpg4 movie clips, I have just read about 3gpp. Maybe with 3rd party software?

mikaelrules
10-28-2003, 04:49 AM
I got it from HK for about $3900 HKD which makes out to about US$500.

@Derrick
I think that Real Player that came with the phone will play mp4 files.

i got the piece in the gray market
while transfering thru pc suite the mp3 is converted to wav

where did u get it in hong kong?
that seems like a really good price!

also it's seems like you're saying mp3s play, do mpg movies play? Don't fully understand mp3, mp4... if it suports mp4 does it support mp3?

derrick
10-28-2003, 08:20 AM
Yes it definately supports mp3...

rohan123
10-28-2003, 08:23 AM

the real player supports the following formats
mp3
mpg
mpg4

i made a mistake above
i didnt mean mp4

jonny_poye
10-28-2003, 08:30 AM
I don't mean to be really annoying! But I'm still wondering bout the mpg, mp3... Cos wouldn't you think Nokia would advertise the fact that you can play mp3s on this fone!!
I'm just going by this
http://www.realnetworks.com/mobile/player/nokia60/install3650.html
I know it's for the 3650 but they probs gonna be the same version of Real Player...
I really hope your right! Mp3 would be so cool...

derrick
10-28-2003, 08:35 AM
Again, mp3's will definatly play on 6600! It is a series60 with symbian phone. And you can download several mp3 players for any mobiles that run symbian (for example mp3Player or MP3Go). (3650,7650, N-gage, Sx-1)

check www.my-symbian.com

Isn't it like this?:
* 6600 has no stereo sound, therefore Nokia does not announce mp3 support.
* BUT, you can play mp3:s with a custom program for that. Perhaps RealOne, perhaps another software. That doesn't really matter to me. If I have to download software, I will... But I guess it can play mp3.

But this is just how I got it...

(sorry for bad english)

derrick
10-28-2003, 08:40 AM
I also suspect Nokia don't bundle a not very good mp3 player with 6600 so that people that are looking for an mp3 player will check out the N-gage. Which has a great mp3- STEREO player.. (?)

rohan123
10-28-2003, 08:45 AM
i agree with derrick

that must be the reason why that was not advertised

Who wants to listen to mono music? Sure you "could" listen to MP3 files on most any Series 60 device, but why would you want to listen to it if it wasn't in stereo?

I agree.

By the way Michael... i'm not sure if you had a chance to play with a 6600 yet but I do remember reading your 7650 review saying how much you liked it.

So which one would you choose now: 6600 or p900? Or... would you wait for
Nokia 6230 (http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,47665,00.html) ?

Michael
10-28-2003, 02:33 PM
P900 vs 6600 is like asking "SUV or Sports Car?"

Both are four wheel vehicles, and share certain base functionality, but they are entirely different beasts for different types of situations.

6600 is pretty darn big for what it does. The P900 is slightly longer, the 6600 slightly wider, and they are about equally thick.

But one is more or less a PDA, touch screen and all, and the other is just a phone.

So, do you want? A PDA or a phone?

Do you want to read data only (6600), or do you want to actively change data in your device (and be bothered with extra weight and the other issues associated with more complex devices)?

RobP
10-29-2003, 01:57 AM
Everyone seems to say you can't compare the P800/P900 with the 7650/3650/6600 but all I know about the SE phones is they have touchscreens. Can someone point me at a comparison so I can see the differences?

I assume the SE phones have a lot more organiser functionality and less phone features than the Symbian phones, but it would be nice to see what the actual differences are.

I have a question! The blue interface that we can see on the top and bottom of the screen of the 6600 on mikael's pictures, is it always there, or does it switch to the normal white&plain interface of the 3650/7650 when entering non-Nokia applications?
If the question isn't clear: Does the blue background on the top and bottom stay all the time or not?

Thanx!

PS- can somebody post a screenshot of the 6600 in standby mode?

onix:

The 6600 supports Themes, like Windows, when you change the Theme of your desktop it changes the entire desktop. That's the case with 6600, so it's not limitted to the usual Blue interface that in the 3650/7650.

rohan123:

Hi. You've mentioned in your post that the MMC on your 6600 had a "Try & Buy" folder with demo apps.

I bought the 6600 on the 7th from a Nokia dealer. The MMC on my 6600 does not have that folder. I opened a sealed box so there's no question of the phone being already used.

Seems like Nokia excluded that stuff from the shipment meant for India.

The 6600 that you have is made by nokia not made in finland. The MMC card that comes with the Made by nokia 6600 does not have the Try & Buy stuff. Only the MMC that comes with the Finnish Nokia 6600 comes with Try & Buy and a full version of Opera.

Thanks to rohan123 and phones4u.

I guess the porblem's sorted out... well kind of sorted out.

The extra stuff is ONLY meant for 6600s shipping in Europe and Africa and NOT for Asia-Pacific.

Its seems illogical as to why Nokia should exclude the stuff for AP shipments but there's no choice.

You don't REALY missing out any single thing, the Try & Buy actually are just bunch of well known trial version programs that were working in the 3650.

The thing that u could be concern about is the Opera browser which it's a complete full version.

Thanks for your generous offer. :)

I dont really need the other apps but if you can mail the exact folder structure for Opera and the files inside them (as they are stored on the MMC) it'll most probably work. Mail to acj6_attherate_yahoo_dot_com...

But please do this if there's no problem for you. Please don't take any extra burden/responsibility in oder to help me.

for now at least, I think there's an upsurge of 6600's again.... especially when the Black Limited Edition 6600 came out.

see here:
http://www.netdropshipper.com/product_expd/38/1225

.... but yeah, even without the black one, 6600's are everwhere. It's become the phone of the masses. Even before the movie Cellular was shown - it was already a hit.
