well..im gonna be an emergency service person..im gonna b a doctor. My uncles a dr and hes got a p900...says he needs it cos it stores info on patients and he can read the infor when hes in hospital easy instead of trapsing around lookin for it. i dont believe him since mobile phones arent allowed in hospitals...

anyway.....i wasnt gonna get it to buy as a phone, was gonna get it as a gadget thing cos in duke of edinburgh you go on expeditions and hikes around places...it be nice not to get lost and use gps and if u r lost...use radio! but yeah...definately wont buy this cos im a peasant. lol.

Mobile phones ARE allowed in hostipital but only for staff, well in fact I've only seen doctors using them, but they are used in hostipitals by docotrs as I saw a couple doctors using them the couple times I've had to stay at one for a day or two. But for everyone else, no mobile phones allowed, kinda sucks don't it ;).

the p900 has flight mode doesnt it (which would mean it would be fine for hospitals) ??

my motorola a925 has gps and can give you walking directions, also has a java midlet on it which has compass/co-ordinates but not really sure how to use it

that phone reminds me of the old "brick" phones from Motorola. Ugly, too large to be put in your pocket, and just plain light on features. Did I mention ugly?

Personally, I think Nokia did a great job with "out of the box" stuff like the 6800 series phones, but other than that, they are way behind Motorola on hip and cool.

Motorola MPx220 - if it only had WiFi
Motorola Razr - ooooh... thin
Motorola MPx (a.k.a. MPx300) - Technically cool and feature packed.

Where Nokia is still superior is their phone book handling (Hmmm... more than one phone number per name plus email and street address - Motorola, what are you thinking here?)

i think you've missed the point that this isn't a "mobile phone" as such and will not be available in shops commericially like any other phone would be. it's a tetra radio/phone. its not like something you would get on a 12 month contract on t-mobile...

many hospitals in the US are lifting the "ban" on mobile phones. some hospitals are trying to move away from pagers and onto cell phones for MDs and staff. it seems that there have not been any reported mishaps in the medical literature regarding cell phone interference with medical equipment like EKGs or life support monitors.

kinda off topic:
i heard that your not supposed to use mobile phones on airplanes because it mucks up the settings and gives you extra talktime or something?

apparantly its ok to use them, u wont crash the plane. Its just safety precautions in case it does.

Erm no thats definitely not it!

Let me explain:

Airplanes use satellite guidance to guide their trajectories and to stay on course. The trajectory is kept stable by constant satellite radio waves being transmitted to the plane.

Cellphones, as you know, use these same radio waves to establish communication. Therefore if you are using a cellphone on a plane it is also sending and receiving radio waves, which in turn can scramble the planes trajectory radio waves and cause the plane to go off course.
Also because of the height that a plane travels radio waves transmitted to and from a cellphone are at a much higher frequency than normal, thus making the interference between the planes radio waves and phones radio waves more likely.

So there's the real reason why you cant use cellphones on planes.

so that means we can basically take total control of the plane?..how cool is that!
