hi guys,

i'd appreciate it if someone in the know could tell me whether it's possible and reliable / workable to send sms messages to canadian friends (i have several), as i'm based in the uk. i remember trying to 2 - 3 years ago, and it failed dismally. i don't know if i was just unlucky back then .... or if the systems were / still are incompatible - as the european / US ones (still are? or has that been rectified). i'm on the 02 network, if that's of any help.

Of course it'll work, you just need to know if youre able to send sms internationally. The best way i can tell you to figure this out is to call O2 or go to the website.

ok, well i didn't think it was 'of course' ...... as it wouldn't work 2-3 years ago, and i could send sms internationally then as i can now. also, i didn't know if the compatability issues between north america / europe had been resolved, as far as sms is concerned ..... i know there are several different systems ......

It didn't work 2-3 years ago? Any idea why? Shrugs. Um, I never knew of any compatible issues, perhaps you didn't add the international plus infront of the phone number? Or you were sending from GSM to CDMA? Don't know...

i've sent messages to other people in other countries, perfectly successfully ... and i didn't forgot any of those things

maybe u'r friends are using cdma phones and that is not working cuz here in canada we have 2providers GSM(rogers and fido)and the rest are using cdma.

i haven't tried recently as i lost touch with the friends, so had no reason to try to sms them, but now that i'm back in touch with them i was going to try to.

surely there being 3g phones / networks wouldn't make a difference? if sms between my gsm network and phone and a canadian's gsm network and phone works ...... surely there would be compatibility between sms from 3g --> gsm and gsm ---> 3g?
