Hi I have a Nokia 7610. The Bluetooth does not work. Nokia believes that I need to reinstall firmware (Downgrade). Nokia wants me to pay them for this. Is there anyway I can do this on my own ?
Much appreciated

they should do it for free as it's not your fault that their firmware is faulty (unless you've been doing some flash reverse engineering on the phone whatever it's called but i doubt you have been!!). demand they flash your phone for free, it's ridiculous you have to pay for it. if they refuse just take it back to where you bought it from and tell them that bluetooth doesn't work; they might even give you a new phone you never know !

I have not done any reverse engineering, I wish I knew how though.
I cannot take it back to the person I bought it from unfortuantely, I got it through ebay. No warranty etc. Is there no way I can do software Upgrade/downgrade or firmware upgrade/downgrade on my own ?

have u tried asking the person u bought it from ebay off about a refund ? make sure u leave negative feedback saying that he sold you a faulty phone.

as far as i know there isnt a way for a normal person to flash their 7610 without some specialist equipment, plus i have no idea where you would find the phones firmware.

try taking it to a different nokia service point in the next town or something, dont mention reflashing the phone, just say "my bluetooth doesnt work" and see what they say.

Glad i did't buy from ebay...and bought insurance!

But seeing as you got is from ebay, you must have got a good deal, and so saved money. U can use a bit of that money to pay nokia. Bit stupid but its your safest bet.

Thanks, Unfortunately it was not as great a deal as I thought. I also did not get any of the cables or cd, a pixel is burnt and more software programs don't work other than Bluetooth. Where I live Nokia will only (they believe) be able to fix it in approx 2 months. The 7610 has not come here yet :(

Are you sure Bluetooth isn't working? Have you tried to connect to another BT enabled phone?

When I went to the Brisbane Nokia Care, all the guy asked was to see an invoice stating where and when I bought the phone. I bought it in Hong Kong, and the guy didn't care - still flashed the firmware covered by warranty.

@twatrash, its Flash Reverse Electronic Engineering (abbreviation: FREE)

Hey ppl, i was gonna get the 7610 as soon as it was launched but then dropped the idea as i heard a lot bout problems inherent in the firmware (as most NEW phones are) some commonly reported issues were the "BLUE TINT IN PHOTOS" and the "PHONE HANGING / LAGGING WHEN CALL RECEIVED/MADE FROM ANYONE WHOZ PIC IS IN MY PHONEBOOK"

Hope i am making sense... and also plz tell me whether the New Firware solves all these probs so i can go ahead and buy this beauty... otherwise i might go in for the SE k700i.......coz i cant wait any longer for a new phone!!!

I don't have any of those problems you've mentioned BigBadBoss.

My 7610 is perfect (v4.0421.4), and (from my eyes) has no bugs at all *shrugs*

I dont have any of those problems you mentioned.

K700i is good. Personally i prefer the size of K700i. I dont like the battery life though. Functionality wise i prefer the N7610.

If you are in the UK take it to carphone warehouse. They never asked me for a receipt of purchase since the mobiles I bring over are new that it is unlikely to have exceeded any one year guarentee. This is common sense.

Nobody asked for receipts anymore. I bought my T3 and h4150 though unofficial channels. All I had to do is register online with the devices serial number. I don't know about Nokia but most handheld devices have world wide warranty.

I strongly recommend you, that if you want to upgrade the firmware ... let Nokia Care do it. Even if it costs a few dollars.

I had a bad experience trying to upgrade the firmware of the T610 by myself.

Hey guys, im glad that none of you'll have probs with ur 7610s but if u went thru the review of 7610 posted on this site too you'll notice most of the probs i spoke bout, including the BLUE TINT in the pics taken....

but i guess the problem is in some pcs and not all of 'em... i was just a bit apprehensive of buying it thinking what if i get one of the faulty ones becoz i harldy get the time to run around nokia service centre ppl to solve them.. u know.... thats all i was worried bout...
but yes except for the weight and no radio and no stereo sound as well... the 7610 is a very good phone.........

but tell me what if SE comes out with a new edition of the k700? one with larger screen and a memory card as well..... would it be good enuff to Beat the 7610??? lemme know !
