Hi,
I've got this weird problem where my new Nokia 7610 doesn't want to recognise some of my Contacts - eg it can't match up my 'Home' Contact phone number and just displays the number.
However, if I dial the number manually out - it happily matches it.
My Telstra SIM is pretty old - like 6 years.
Any ideas?

Try to delete the number and add it again in your phone memory.

I had a similar thing on my 7610, whereby a contact which was a landline number (no other numbers) rang me and all that came up was "0+ calling".
I also recently found that after going into the SIM directory in Contacts and then going 'back' to the initial Contacts view, all my contacts were duplicated. So annoying that the only way I found to fix it was to completely delete all my contacts and upload them again from my PC >:|
Anyone got any ideas where we stand with regard to updating firmware? Is it something we can send back to Nokia for them to do or do we have to do it via the retailer and if so, will they charge for it?
I bought mine from Expansys in UK.

Yeah, I've seen this on series 60 devices (specifically my 7650, 6600 and N-Gage). It occurs when (similar to what cypression says) you have duplicated contacts on the phone's memory (doesn't matter on the SIM as the OS won't read numbers from it normally) and the phone can't determine which contact to match the number to. I think it's different if you manually dial it as it blindly matches the number to the first instance of it in the phone book. It's a bit of a bug in the series 60 OS and a bigger bug in the synchronization with Outlook (it causes all kinds of errors, such as duplicated contacts, production of empty entry fields, deletion of contacts [rare] and misreading of characters, i.e. reads return symbol on PC as □).

Whoa...was this problem fixed in the second edition Series 60?

yeah, ive had this problem too, when people call me or message me sometimes, i dunno who they are cos al that comes up is a number instead of the name i put in the phone book.

Nope, it wasn't fixed, my 6600 did it. That said, my PDA also does it and it's powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile, oops on Microsoft's behalf. Synchronization just never works, it's a right bitch - for the amount of effort you spend trying to get it to work, you could've just copied the contacts manually (like I did, N-Gage to 6230, one-by-one over Bluetooth... god, that was a fun hour I tell you).
