um, if you want a good built-in cam, then the choice is the s700 or s700i.

but for versatility, and good all-around functionality, including the ability to add and delete apps - the choice is to go for the smartphone, the 7610.

just my 2 cents.

cheers!

The screen on S700 has 240x320 and about 262000 colors. The screen on 7610 has 176x208 and 65000 colors.

S700 wins because its the best in its kind.
7610 is a good phone, but its not special. the best in that section is P900/P910

even when knowing that the 7610 supports symbian, i would still chose the S700 its a super phone.

it comes out in the uk mid october

Unless you need the "smartphone" functions, the S700 is the better buy. Go with the SE P900/910 is you want a "smartphone." Camera/picture quality on the SE S700 is superior to the Nokia 7610; only the Sharp GX-30/32 is better.

yup...its only a question of versatility (7610) over simplicity (s700) - price i think would be almost the same...hopefully.

Except for the fact that Nokia delivered a megapixel phone 6 months before SE could, even after SE had built megapixel phones for Japan one year earlier!

then we have the fact that sharp was earlyer then nokia 2. then you could easely say that SE delivers a 262k screen sooner then nokia, or even bigger screens and so on. it doesn't matter who brings it out first, it matters who brings out the best one

Well, I think it's little bit of both ofcourse......No phone that is not in market cannot be the best.......

one thing is certain..that SE puts more logic and sensibility in their phones.

My biggest concern for S700 is the battery(780mAh), i mean the screen size is like 240x320 at 262000 colour screen. I dont think the battery can last for a day got to keep charging everyday if you're a heavy user :( :(

i agree to a great extent. sonyericsson does not just hurriedly release their phones just to capture the current heartbeat of the consumers but they make sure they deliver the best product although at times their products come in late but anyway they still sell well. s700 is worth waiting for.

The S700 will definately have a sim card slot seeing as it's GSM...Although perhaps they said it as sim free? Meaning no sim is included when buying it...

yes, the battery may have a problem considering its huge 262K screen. in the k700, SE issued a new firmware version to correct the battery problem. perhaps they could do this prior to the official release of s700.

Taking in and out the back cover is not a good thing though, it will come loose. Feel like getting it just worried the trade in price isn't as high as 7610 :(

I'm wondering how's the battery life for other phones with 262K screen like Samsung D410 and Sharp GX30. I hope Sony Ericsson will be wise enough to consider the battery factor in the most anticipated camera phone of the year (S700). Despite its hefty size (when opened that is) I really want to have this gadget.

yes, you may just get an s710a - it has edge and is available in the US. the s700i was designed for the asian market (without EDGE). Yup, you may also use the s710a in the philippines coz our mobile networks (Smart & Globe) support EDGE.

I just realized that N7610 is no match compare to s700 hehehehe and of course to s710a

how is it "no match"?

it does have the better camera (0.3 megapixel difference)... but what else is there?

imho, I think that the two are in a different class from each other - and should not even be compared. One is a smartphone and one is not. Unless maybe if their prices are identical...

cheers!

Anyway i dont even know why they are only using a 780mAh battery on S700 when it has such a big screen etc. Cant they change and be alittle more generous :(

Yupe, they should've at least tuck in the P800's 1000mAh battery.

P.S. Questions, i want confirm answers thanks.

1. MS Pro Duo? or just MS Duo?
2. Radio ?
3. Most important, the calendar function in K700 doesn't have repeats (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly...) and the alarm function only can set two independant alarm. Is this addressed in the S700? i will certainly ditch S700 if it doesn't have the calendar repeating function as K700 does.

a few people own the s700 already on different forums and they have said the battery lasts for 3 days on normal usage. pictures, mp3s, the works...not bad...must be some new battery power management.
