I'm thinking of getting a new phone in December to replace my T68i and Ipaq 3760 combo.

My initial research shows both the P900 and SPV E-200 have the same features ie Bluetooth, video recording etc. The only main difference is one has a stylus and the other doesn't. The other big difference would be the screen size. I use Orange UK by the way.

I don't know if Orange SPV users have a means of unlocking the device to install uncertified software?

I also expect the P900 to be more expensive than the SPV when both are lauched.

Basically it would be nice if P800 users and SPV E-100 users can comment on the everyday use of their phones particularly in features that one phone has and not the other.

I would use the phone for making calls, keeping track of my timetable (full time uni student), to do list and maybe install some software. Checking email on the move is a must also. I may also browse the web.

Any input on the above would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't used the SPV phones so I can't comment on how good/bad they are, but why not get the P800? I know it won't be the latest thing on the block, but when the P900 comes out, it should be a lot cheaper and still do everything you need.

I haven't used either one, so I can only go by what I hear through people and articles that I read.

You're a student at Uni, so I can only assume that you use the usual MS Office apps, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
The SPV E-200 is purposely built for Microsoft apps and so would have the greater compatibilty with your current PC apps. It runs on the latest MS 2003 OS, and will sync with your PC MS apps without problems.

The P900 will have edit facilities for Word & Excel (unlike the P800 which is read only...? Is that right, Sid?), and will still sync with Outlook without problems, but it runs on a different OS. It's not a big deal, and you can still find loads of apps to install on the P900.

Both are quality phones, and you will definetly be impressed with whichever you go with. Neither will let you down. And don't be fooled by the stylus on the P900. I doubt you'll use it all that often, but it's cool for drawing crude diagrams (directions/ maps, or drawing on photos, etc) and forwarding them via email.

It's just a question of which best suits your current needs.
Price-wise, I doubt there'll be very much difference between the 2. Both classed as high-end.

Yeah, the P900 will have it on an extra CD included with the phone.

P800 owners can buy Quickoffice (http://www.cesinc.com/uiq/). Keep in mind that Quickoffice only edits Word and Excel files.
Either way, if you want to save some money (maybe put it towards a 128mb Memory Stick Duo), then get the P800.

After reading Michael's review I'm definitely getting the P900.

But Mr Jim, when is it coming out and how much is it going to be?

As far as I am aware, SPV E-200 is coming in the next couple of weeks. Although SE have announced the P900 there is no fixed launch date - the entire reason they were reluctant to announce it in the first place is there are stil a lot of P800s that have been manufactured and waiting to be sold which they a) Want to get rid of and b) Can still sell at a fairly high price (the entry of the P900 would force it down. A colleague of mine was able to get his hands on and play with a P900 and says it's one of the best mobile devices he's ever used.

Any indication of how much the E-200 is going to be priced?

Orange is selling the E-100 at £79.99 for pay monthly at the moment.

If there are many P800's floating around then why has Orange stopped selling it on their website? It was removed a few days ago.

We at orange don't actually have many P800s - hence why it's been removed from the website. SE still have quite a few, and so if the 900 was launched, either the remaining 800s wouldn't sell or would have to go at a lower price.

Judging by the entry prices of the SPV and SPV E100, I'm guessing the E200 will come in at about £129.99 - 149.99 on a £25 a month contract or above

wow that is alot. im baught the P900 for 130E downpayment and 23E each month for 24 months. but i dont get to call or sms for that 23 euros. but thats no problem
the thing is that all together that will come to about the same price if you would buy the phone cash. so its like paying a downpaymet with no interest for 24 months hehe

i got a good deal right?
