I managed to unlock my 7600 using one of the links specified elsewhere in this forum . So far so good, but now it seems that the battery performance has become unusually bad and its getting drained quite fast.

(I am on 3's Network in UK). Also, Nokia Softwares that came with the cell phone dont work on my PC as my PC doesnt have SP1 . Anytips to install the Nokia Software on Windows XP Professional that doesnt have SP1. (I am unable to run Windows Update coz of obvious reasons ;)

battery life shouldn't be affected as i unlocked my own plus my sisters, mams and boyfriends 7600's and the battery life didnt alter. if you take your phone to a nokia service point they should be able to reflash the firmware to "normal" gsm version (ie, not the altered 3 version). plus side is that you can lock the phone onto 2g signal when using 3 (so you dont keep getting dropped calls, weird noises etc) down side is that you will lose all the settings for mms/services etc but they can be found at www.3g.co.uk/3GForum

Twatrash is the man once again...

You should be able to get SP1 on a CD, I will try and find mine and you can have it for free (I take it you live here in the UK?)

If not, try eBay...

I have a 'special' copy of XP too but Windows Update works fine - have you actually tried it?

But if you're on a modem I wouldn't recommend Windows Update. As to this special copy, I assume you are referred to a 'slipstreamed' copy where the service pack is integrated into the install? They're great, I got the XP SP2 copy now - such a time/bandwidth saver.

I assume the bad battery life is down to, as twatrash says, the phone attempting to lock onto the 3G signal of your network, and this network searching is very battery consuming. Getting it flashed should fix it. Of course, I never got that far, my 7600 went back after 12 hours...

I'd recommend taking your phone to a Nokia service centre, they will as twatrash said flash the phone to the normal nokia firmware, not the crap 3 version, then you can choose to have GSM only or dual network mode, swtich to GSM only and just roam, your battery life will be heaps better.

While ur at the service centre, get them to test your battery, they found that i had a faulty battery because my battery was dying fast also, and they gave me a new one free, so its worth asking, just tell them your battery is not lasting very long compared to stated figures and they'll test it.
