Judging by the video from Esato, it looks like it has a d-pad. I don't know what the thing in the middle is. Don't know if it has no use, or if it is used as the 5th way in the d-pad (select).

maybe its like the 6230 pad? u know like left-right-up-down and also the centre is a selecting button. or it could be a joystick as well. i dono. im not getting it still its a good phone to play around with. bengalboy already got one on howardforums. lucky dog...

I didn't like 6230's d-pad.

I thought the thing in the middle was a joystick and the circle was just directional markers!

I'm stumped. You could be right, but don't you think the directional markers are awfly big? Phones with joysticks don't often have directional markers...I guess we'll have to wait until it's out! :S

the s700 should've been designed with a joystick similar to the k700i. this kind of joystick feels a lot better than the one on the N7650 and other phones.

Yup. The joystick on the 7650 has a little hard for me. What made it worse was it became really creaky in the presence of humidity (which means it was always creaky when in S'pore!).

it looks like the same mechanism as the one in the k700, the circle thing around it is just a design(i think)

It would have been wicked if you can use a d-pad and a joystick in the middle.

Haha, and pointless at the same time. Has anyone here tried the proto?

im pretty sure there are protos in philipines, this guy called Skrue on another forums from phili he got a samsung P730 and his friend got a D710. i almost got the P730 from him but i took to long to decide on the deal so i lost out.

S700 D-pad & selecting button :

so wait, im confused here, the circle part is the direction pad(the one with the blue lights)? and the center button is for selecting only by pressing it inwards, am i correct?

cuz all this time i thought that the center button is the direction stick too, as in a joystick.

That would be fine with me. Most phones with joystick (or d-pad) and select all as the one thing seem to annoy me in that I'll try and press down/up/left/right and end up pressing select, or else try to press select and hit down/up/left/right (and maybe hit select a split second after), so I end up getting the wrong thing. To me you shouldn't have to concentrate too hard for something simple like navigating a phone menu.

If this design has the button as a separate construct that would be good I reckon. Depends how much it sticks out though, I suppose, and how sensitive it is. You might find that as you move your thumb from left to right or up to down you brush the button and it activates. That could become annoying too. Anyway time (and full reviews) will tell.

the big d-pad and click stick (i don't think it's a joy stick coz it would defeat the use of the d-pad) should be easy to use. the only thing is that you would lift your thumb so as not to click the click stick when moving your thumb from the left d-pad key to the right d-pad key.
