Hey. I was just wondering which one of these do you guys in S'pore use? I use Singtel. Also post any problems about your network, or what you like about them too. :).

I'm using M1 loh!
But want to change to Starhub later, because they've free idd to HKG.(but until end 2004, hope they can extend), and per second charge.
Not much complaint about M1, but the network at my area is not so strong. My be because of near to Malaysia.

Ah I see. My sis is M1. The reception is pretty much the same as me in my area (River Valley) so yea. I'm a bit wary on Starhub's reception, have you tried it out in your area? My friend's phone with Starhub has NO reception (as in nothing!) when we were in Ang Mo Kio, same thing when we're at her house in Sengkang. It sucks, I have to call her house phone to get in touch with her when she's home. Oh well...

Eheh. She uses the 7250. Perhaps her place is just in a dead spot? She does get atleast one bar when she's outside. :) Perhaps her phone will have signal in Punggol as well? Because when she had no signal in Ang Mo Kio she still had signal further away at her old place (Yio Chu Kang). :) There's still hope!

i am using m1. im staying in river valley/delta avenue area. no problem with my signal. im using t630.
i used to be a singtel customer but comparing signal strength of singtel with m1, in my experience singtel has better coverage at least when i'm inside lifts because there are less dropped calls with singtel.
i can't use starhub because i can't send sms to globe customers in the philippines.

Hey cool! You're pretty much my neighbour. :D

Starhub doesn't allow sms to be sent to Globe? Really?? Why? That's proposterous. I was always tempted with their cheaper deals, and cheaper phone prices, but now I know I won't use them :). (Unless ofcourse it's an emergency).
I live in River Valley....facing Nathan Road.........use SingTel.......superb coverage........have travelled widely with the Singtel and the roaming etc is superb along with their service..............
Cannot wait for them to add a Free incoming high end price plan.............
cheers,

Whoa. What are the chances that 3 mobileburn forum members pretty much live on the same road??
Yes, Singtel's roaming is great, but IMO they charge quite a lot (which is the same for other networks, so no biggy).

Im using singtel living near upp east coast. I think singtel is the most expensive among mobileone and starhub if im not wrong. But they got the best coverage ;)

Exactly. They're phones with plans are always priced more than the other two networks.
[edit] I was just about to go to the three network's phone shops and have proof that Singtel was the most expensive, but they don't seem to be!! Example:
With a two year plan:
7200:
Singtel: $498
Starhub: $768!!!
M1: $598
NGAGE QD
Singtel: $298!
Starhub: $338
M1: $338
LG G7120
Singtel: $298
Starhub: $298
M1: $398
Moto V80
Singtel: $598!
Starhub: $718
M1: $718
Moto E398
Singtel: $398
Starhub: $339
M1: $598!
Weird!

But I know SingTel has stopped the Email-SMS services.

i used to be a singtel customer and yes auto roaming service is great and the customer service is indeed very accomodating. i had problem with my sim card PIN and i had to call overseas back to singapore and when i came back to singapore I requested singtel to refund the cost of the 10-min call and they did after a lengthy explanation! twas about S$30! :D because i called from a hotel and the rate was very expensive ......and they should refund the amount because it was the customer service officer who took time in resetting my PIN. :)
but i encountered one problem before with singtel autoroaming. on certain areas i won't be able to use my phone even though i had a signal. that was quite weird and that was 4 years ago when i had a nokia 3310.

Oh!:p i see.
Same to m1, when i send sms to my HKG friends, not all of them can receive it, and alot of them always changing operator, because their number can carry to the new operator, and the contract only 1 yr.

Um. It's what people in Singapore randomly say usually at the end of their comment. Like when people in the States (and other places) say "he said no MAN...go away MAN...my computer's broken MAN" so it's like "he said no LAH...go away AH...my computer's broken LOR". Lah, lor, ah etc. doesn't mean 'man', but it is used sort of like how 'man' is used.

well, I have come across articles where they attempt to explain the definition of the word "lah". C Dover is pretty much correct in his explanation. To add to it, the word "lah" can take on many meanings depending on the context, and most importantly, tone, in which it is used. For instance,
- to show exasperation/impatience: "That's enough already lah!"
- in the form of a plea "please lah!"
- a dismissive reply: "can lah"
- to punctuate the end of a sentence: the examples as stated in the options provided for the poll (eg. "Singtel lah")
Other words like "leh", "lei", "ah", and etc, have similar functions to the word "lah", and that, in my opinion, is the main beauty of Singlish (or Singapore-style English); the ability to convey many different meanings and emotions with just one word.
Hope that clarifies!
P.S. Some of you might be interested to know that in some dictionaries, they have actually recognised and included the word "lah"! Cool huh?

In reply to the original question posted: I'm a M1 user, but have been thinkin of jumping ship over to Singtel though. Reason being that their latest plans appear (at least to me) to be the most value for money. Can't remember the exact name of the plan, but in any case, I think that for $25.20 (approx), the stuff that you get per month is the best compared with the rest:
- free incoming all day
- free 100 outgoing calls ANYTIME
- 500 free sms
the only thing which M1's equivalent plan does not match is the free outgoing calls, which is restricted to off-peak hrs fr 9pm-9am, which sucks :(
Also, I noticed that M1's phones appear to be priced more expensively; for instance, the K700i I've been eyeing, for any plan:
M1: $498 (with $200 trade-in)
Singtel: $598 (w/o trade-in)
Starhub: $548 (w/o trade-in)
The trade-in value of phones for M1 is also pretty low most of the time too.
BUT... then again, I've loved the prompt, friendly, and courteous customer services provided via phone, and with the help of M1's Sunrisers club and Sunperks rewards programme, I've been able to get my T630 in Mar for free without trading in my beloved T68i, and I don't think Starhub and Singtel have such reward schemes :)

I heard Starhub will give you discound (forgotten how many) if you are Mobile line and Cable TV or boardband Internet subscriber.
The only good think to me for Singtel is they provide free SmartRoaming, which is don't need to pay montly subscription fee.
C Dover, is it ture?

Yup, some phones they give at a better price if you're a Starhub cable user...

Um, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's free. Never seen a charge for it (though I rarely study my bill :)).

I just switched to M1's SunTalk 1500 plan which is equivalent to the Singtel plan you stated above. It says it has 150 mins free of outgoing calls based on the off peak time of 9pm-9am. So when you use the free outgoing calls outside that time slot, it will be peak hour rate already and the 150 mins becomes 90 mins or equivalent. So it is almost the same. I also wanted to switched to Singtel but since I am a Sunriser already and my caller ID and autoroaming is free and I do not want to pay for the new Singtel SIM card and registration fee, I decided to stay with M1. Also I have a S$200 Sunriser voucher that I can use once I upgrade. Isn't it great?

Isn't the Singtel price of K700i is at S$498 without trade-in and not S$598? Please see singtelshop.

Oh, so you can use the free outgoing time during peak period too, I see. Silly me, had thought that I could only use the free outgoing during the off-peak period and have to pay during peak. Well, guess that means their adverts aren't idiot proof then :p
Yeah, the voucher's definitely something which is very attractive, and saves me from burning a larger hole in my pocket :D

singtel 1800 is really bad. a lot of dropped calls and bad voice quality. singtel 900/1800 (dual band) is very good based on my experience. and that was two years ago and i think it is still the same.
