View Full Version : User Reputation
Vbulletin3 has a new feature called User Reputation. Quite a few are interested in what it is so here's a short description:
User Reputation in its simplest form is a ranking of your user's benefit to your forum. Its basis comes from the opinions of all of your forum users that choose take part in it.
Users gain and lose reputation based on how their posts are scored by other forum participants. Users with the ability to affect reputation, will either give or take aways points by approving or disapproving with a post's content.
All of the factors that affect a user's reputation score are found in the User Reputation section of the vBulletin Options. Please view that section of the manual for more information on controlling how users are able to affect another user's reputation. Basically, you can review anybody's post and give them a "positive" or negative" rating, as well as a short review, if you wish. You can't review the same persons post more than once unless you review 10 other people.
These are the settings I've got -
For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power - set at 365 days. ie. every year you are a member you get one extra point of reputation power.
For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power - set at 1000.
For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power - set at 100
How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others - set at 50
How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others - set at 5 (the default reputation everybody starts with is 5 so your opinions count immediately)
How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit - set at 10
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit - set at 10
I hope this makes some sense. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Sounds good ^__^ .. but I still don't get why I'm on 1 :S
That's the default for everyone. The rules outlined above have already been implemented. For example, cdover and a few other people who have more than 1K posts will have a rating higher than 1. So will anybody who has been a member of the forums for more than 1 year.

Very nice idea.
What's the maximum number of points you can get?

cool :) im on 1, but im on a distinguished road...lol...hmm i like it. Its kinda more structured that "my series 60's" reward thing which gives u points for quantity of posts alone. Its good, but its nice that other people get to say whether ur posts are useful to them or not, or if ur just ramblin, like i kinda do..
:P

What I don't get ... is someone left me a negative reputation on one of my posts.
I didn't say anything wrong or stupid. I'm puzzled at this system ...

Haha yeah! I helped one person out, and they said disapproved of it! And their comment was "helpful". ? Weird...

*shrugs* I don't get this system either. It sortof feels 'gimmicky'.
It's pretty simple. If you find an exceptional post that you feel deserves to be modded up then give that person a positive rating. I guess we can figure out prizes etc (if any) when we fix up the forums.

but that isnt actually fair...i mean, what if theres a friend or something of someone and they just keep rating them high? or someone just doesnt like you personally and then down rates you?.... and this kinda makes the whole posting thing a game as the more posts you make the closer you get to 1000 or more posts which means another point, so im sure youll get more blank or useless posts. not like we dont have enough of that already.

Heh, would have been nice to have been given a positive rating by the people that I gav G-mail invitations to.

dude thats what shouldnt happen. the rating is only meant to be within mobileburn. thats the whole point im trying to make, a persons rating points can either go up or go down due to other things not related to mobileburn or forum posts at all....
You need to rate 20 people before rating the same person again. Most people will get sick of it before they bother...

Seriously, how many do actually rate posts?
Isn't that just a meaningless way to waste time (if not Sid's idea about prizes becomes a reality ofcourse)?

Yeah. I only rate a post when I REALLY agree with it, or when I REALLY disapprove of it...
