We are planning to upgrade these forums to Vbulletin 3 in the very near future. I've had a chance to play with VB3 and am very impressed by it. We'll be implementing a new User Reputations system where you can rate other users' posts and will give them a better "reputation" by doing so. Also, VB3 has a full WYSIWYG editor, making it easy to construct complicated posts.

You can read the full feature list here - http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/appendix_2

The forums will probably close for 1-3 hours for the upgrade, but we'll try to give enough notice.

One feature I'm looking forward to using is:

Global ingore user aka 'Tachy goes to Coventry' - when enabled all posts by the specified user will be ignored/unseen by other members. Automatically added to the all users ingnore lists :p

Yay! I've set up vB3 on a site and it's such a GREAT upgrade over vB2. Congrats ;) :p.

The only other site I know that uses it is (was) cliesource and palmcity (now 1src.com) Very good with the customization of the subscribed threads. Very well laid out too. Faster as well.

Like it, alot. One thing though, is there any way to implement the quick reply feature?

Congrats on the implementation of the new layout... but there is one feature I'm seriously missing now: I used to be able to mark all new posts read in one click (Mark all new posts read). Will this be implemented again?

That should be at the bottom of the forum home - "Mark Forums Read".

Eek! Don't like it! Now it looks just like anyone else's forums that they've put up on their ISP's personal web space just 'for fun'.

Anyway I suppose change is good.

hehe...that means they spent about $130 just for fun ;). They could change the style if they wanted to, but it's their decision.

A quick reply feature is available but I'm not sure if I want to implement it if it'll mean more stupid one-line posts like "lol" or "wow".

The site will be undergoing a major redesign in the next month and we'll customise the forums to fit in with the new look once that's done.

I think that the v3 looks pretty good.

It does seem to run a bit faster.

Although quick-reply is convenient, I certainly understand and support the idea of reducing one-line posts - so I can make do without that feature activated.

Was the upgrading process difficult to implement, or was it basically just a few button clicks?

Hmmm, how did I manage to overlook that

I'm going to allow Quick Replies for about a week to see the effect it has on the forums. If people behave themselves then it can remain.

Michael did the upgrade but he told me it was basically just some button pushing. The old forums/posts needed to be backed up and the old database converted into the format for the new forums.

i was a bit shocked but its still good. i mean now i can atleast login through hotmail when i want to post a reply after viewing forums replies through hotmail. before i kept getting a action cancelled page.

i like it, less clicking with replies. I like that things are hidden but theyre only clicks away, and that u can see how many peeps are in threads without going through the old way of checkin.

I got confused at first cos i could find where everything was, but its all there. GJ!

One thing that I noticed - and this isn't exactlu a problem per se - is that if you try to upload or use an avatar that is bigger than the 75x75, it doesn't auto resize. That's something that I know Invision PowerBoard does. I don't know if it is possible to do on VBulletin because I've never worked with it, but if it is, it would make it easier for people who don't want to fool with Photoshop to have avatars.

Sid

Unfortunately, there is no such feature in Vbulletin. I don't think it should be too much of a big deal if it only needs to be done once.

No, it's not really a big deal.

Basically I am at work and tried to set an avatar, the computer doesn't have PS or any graphic-editing program, so I'll just have to wait until I get home.
