I just saw this phone yesterday in the shop and it was amazing. What I thought was really impressive is the size of the screen. The phone was smaller than the Nokia 7610 but had a bigger screen. I didn't see it working and that is why I wanted to ask what the features are on it? Anyone know, also if this is a smart phone.. if yes and if it has the usual smart phone features like bluetooth, Mp3, and the rest of it then.. this is going to be a seriously nice phone..
I'm suprised that The guys on this website haven't got their hands on one and it's already released on the market here in UK.

Yes Looks wise and just on the touchy feely side of things, this phone is probably the nicest I've seen out there after the SE K700, which is gorgeous. But we're all no longer even impressed by phones which have Bluetooth, Radio's, MP3 players, games, Camera's and video recorders.. or are we?
I have a Nokia 6230. It's an amazing little phone but my biggest gripe with it would be the tiny screen. I mean the SE T630 is smaller and has a bigger and brighter screen.
Hence my curiosity of the S65. It's not as nice in the flesh as maybe the pictures on the siemens website, but it's still a very nice phone, especially the screen which is Huge.
A couple of years ago when Nokia brought out the 7210 I got one and couldn't imagine ever getting another phone, but they're REALLY lagging behind when it comes to phone design and the only thing they had which beat the opposition hands down was the ease of use of the phones OS, which no longer is the case.
I think I will pop into the shop and have a look at a working model of this phone.. But my ideal phone would be one that looked like the SE S700, which was the size of a K700, with a 1mp camera, unlimited video, external storage and it HAS to be a smart phone.
My bro has a p900 and even though he hates to have to carry it around he is still amazed at how much you can do with it. The camera and video on it though aren't as good as you'd have imagined.

Sorry to disappoint you. The screen size may be bigger but not the resolution(dpi). The Nokia got 176 x 208 pixels and the Siemens only 132 x 176.

I assume it can play WAV files? (Coz the M55 can)
My friend was shocked when he bought the Nokia 6230 and it can't play WAV files. I guess Nokia really doesn't include all the features in each of their models.

Blah! No symbian :(.

The S65 does not have Symbian, it is fully developed by Siemens and hence runs Siemens' own UI.
And no, it does not play MP3s either. But yes, it does play WAVs.

Can it send and receive files via bluetooth?

Absolutely. You can even play multiplayer games over Bluetooth.:)

Although it has no MP3 player standard, would we be able to install some kind of 3rd party application later that may support MP3? Or is the hardware/OS limited in some way?

S65 is not symbian, there for you cant install any 3rd part apps.

Damn. So that means we gotta hope that Siemens will release new firmware with it at some point. And I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that they have no intentions of supporting MP3 in the future for the S65.
Such a simple and common idea, yet they can't see a reason to include it on what is arguably their best phone, and one of the best phones (nearly) on the market. Little things like that would give competition pretty much no advantage and their market share would increase significantly more.
Ok so I obviously haven't done any actual market research, but that's just my feeling from looking at the number of people listening to their phones on the train and generally around the place. Using the phone as an audio entertainment device like that seems to be a worthwhile feature (coupled with FM radio would be nice, however that would require some extra receiver which would bulk the phone up).
So if we can't install 3rd party apps, does this include Java games? I thought the point of Java was that things written in it should be completely portable between platforms...

Saw it in London UK. I think it was the CarphoneWarehouse. They had a Dummyphone in the shop and said they were getting some in soon.
They're quoting an August release on their website, check it out here..

The S65 was released in Sweden last week. I ordered the last one available on my friends web shop for mobile gadgets on thursday, so I'm hoping that it has arrived now.
It's a pity that S65 is alcking support for mp3, but other than that, it looks like one hell of a phone.
btw, did you look at the pictures taken with S65 and posted here: http://www.mobile-review.com/forum2/showthread.php?t=12880

Had a go with one the other week at work, put it back in the box after only a couple of minutes. The camera refresh rate and quality on the handset itself is really poor, especially for a 'megapixel' phone.
Nice try Siemens, but you still don't understand do you?

I bought the S65 and to be honest there is nothing positive about it. I had to part with it as once you are used to a symbian or windows software you will never lay down your eyes on other simple phones. Exactly I think that is all i can say if one can understand me. I bought another SX1 as this is a complete phone. Any questions will be answered. Have fun.

Hi there.
S65 is a gorgeous phone, even though it has it shortcomings. Just go to siemens.com and download the latest firmware. It solves many problems, and improves the quality of the camera so much, it is as good as the sonyericsson S700i. I really wanted the SE, but than i would just be buying the design, as the Siemens is a way better phone. I would recommend this phone to anyone, as long as you update it.
On the mp thing: since the phone has java onboard, there might soon be a java mp3 player to download. Anyone seen bigger mini-mmc cards anywhere?

default is 30secs but u can get it to about 3minutesAnd how do you suggest we do that???? I would also love to know how to the deactivate the camera sound 'cause it's driving me crazy that we might not be able to do it!!!!
ok michael, i think u need to review this phone.
if s65 could not recognize .mp3 and it is not a smartphone what is the use of the external memory slot?

The expandable memory is useful for storing 1.3MP images, which can usually be about 300kb in size.:) Oh and huge WAV files.
but most of the phones in market right now support .mp3.

I have read that S65 has problems with CK3000 bluetooth hands free, does new siemens firmwares fix this issue?

Had a play with a mates yesterday and ----
Plus points --- size, weight (makes my S700i look and feel like a brick --- oh hang on it is a brick ;))
Minus points --- screen is utter tosh, lack of MP3 playback is tosh, getting the phone to talk properly with a Siemans BT headset took about 15 minutes of faffing around - utter tosh, I can't comment on the camera as viewing through the display was painful.

I don't like the feel of the keypad. It's plastic yes, but it feels sharp to press for my fingers. The SE T630's plastic keypad is much better.
