Mitsubishi have recently announced a version of their Japan-only PCD network V301D clamshell phone - with the camera removed!

It's quite a dull phone, and of course it's duller without the camera - but it's an ideal choice for businesses where security is an issue, such as factories and research labs.

I work in a business where camera phones are a headache because of security issues, and also because things like MMS are expensive. Some of our customers are very sensitive about things that go on.. two of which are Nokia and Sony Ericsson. And yet manufacturers keep shoving cameras in phones.

I've heard of some circumstances in which the cameras have been taped over before the visitor could come into site.

So.. are we going to see more camera-less versions of camera phones in the future?

Yeah, I think there will be more camera and non-camera versions of phones. They could do it like Porsche, who charge extra to have less equipment (thereby reducing the weight of the car).
