I'm not sure but it should be doing well. Coz whenever I pass by a Sun shop, there's always tons of customers.
However, Sun still doesn't have much roaming. My aunt went to Europe and there's was no Sun signal. And not yet many cell sites in the provinces either.

i hope they take better care of their customers than the BIG TWO do... it'll be the only way to win market share from them. besides, the market just isn't growing that rapidly anymore...:)
Mmm..... I did not know there was any other Cell comp. in the Pi. I just heard of Smart and Globe. The last time I was there was in Oct of 2001. My wife is Filipino.

I think Sun's services will eventually get better in the long run. Same thing with Globe & Smart when they first started out, everyone was pissed coz it's hard to get a signal, delayed sms, etc...
kyoots
08-15-2004, 12:44 AM
yup but theyd better do it fast or the two giants will crush them. anyway, i think its a market share thingy - like cebu pacific <airline> or robinsons <malls> (same owner by the way), who are ranked only as second or third among the bigger ones like PAL <airline> and SM or Ayala <malls>. mother company is digitel, by the way, who ranks below PLDT/Smart and Globe. the point is, theyre ok once they had their share. problem is if theyd build up the network fast to please the subscribers...

I guess the Gokongweis always like to be 3rd, he he he!!! But they're number 1 in the publishing business (re: Summit Media, #1 overall), but this is another story. I don't wanna get off the topic, he he!!
Well so far, my cousin doesn't encounter any signal problems with Sun (at least in Metro Manila) however, there's definitely no roaming yet coz my aunt brought her Sun line to Europe and there weren't any signals. Luckily, she also brought a Globe line.

08-16-2004, 06:59 PM
hmmm...perhaps sun only has few roaming partners in europe yet...maybe they concentrated on other top pinoy destinations such as US or HK.

very strange things happened twice... my friends who are in Canada and Australia called me up in my mobile phone using their respective local subscribers, but a Sun number registered on my phone (0922...) so I thought they were making fun me and they were in Manila already but apparently they weren't. Before, whenever someone calls me from overseas, no number is registered.

You know, what I REALLY like about Sun is how they seem to do things that scream "in your face, Smart and Globe!"
On the promo, people are saying that it's almost over, but if it's 250/month then it should go on for at least a COUPLE of months, 'di ba? Otherwise, they should have said 250 for this month! Hehehe.
I seriously doubt that Globe and Smart will follow the trend. I agree that Sun is doing this to break into their markets and get subscribers. It's working. Two die-hard Globe friends of mine already jumped ship. Yung isa POST PAID pa! Globe shouldn't have ditched the free GPRS. That was one of the strong points why many stayed. But now, I don't know how it will go for them since they charge 0.25Php per kb (which is @#$%ng overpriced esp in the world of graphics, pixs and mms nowadays!)
I salute Sun for their efforts. I'm going to get a second phone and a Sun sim for myself and encourage my clan to do the same. Heck, I'd totally switch over the moment they say this thing will go on for a year and ditch my Smart. The risk is very small.
Anyway, gtg! Have fun everyone!

SUN Cellular sucks! signal is terrible and it is really hard to call other networks using sun. People won't mind paying a little extra as long as they provide better service. What kind of network lets you wait for about 5 minuites when you call their hotline? globe platinum answers your call is 2 seconds. Sun cellulars customer service is really lax. I salute globe and smart for not following sun cellular because here you can see that people still use globe and smart even if sun cellular has call and text unlimited that lets you dial a couple of times before connecting. their servie really sucks! I'm a post paid subscriber of sun cellular and i really regret it. Representatives in the sun shops are not knowlegable of their job. Also their billing department is really screwed! They keep on calling that i did not pay my bill when in fact it is set on auto billing on my credit card! One proof that sun cellular is really nothing compared to smart and globe is they only have 2 million subscriber most of whom are pre paid users and just for the sake of their promo which i doubt would last for 4 months. While globe and smart has 17 million subscriber i think. Sun cellular just wants to boost up its subscriber so they won't be put to smahe when their foreign partner come into business with them. it is rumored that singtel will partner with sun cellular and i hope theior service will be better. Bottom line is sun cellular sucks and they are just tricking people to spend on their worthless low quality service.

sun network is clogged due to its free trial for 15 days ending oct 31. during this time, all you can do is text. calling has been a futile effort. i might have gotten to the person am calling (sun also) about 3x in trying 50x. i dont know now that their free trial is over if all those would buy the 24/7 promo prepaid. anyway, until they can expand their network coverage and capacity in handling the huge public response then i dont see any reason why i should continue. but the promo is well received but i also doubt if globe or smart would follow. only those that have limited subscriber would do that promo.

i may be wrong, but not even half of the population of the philippines has a cellphone, there is still a big market here as far as cellphone is concerned... and we as consumer should be more than happy to have more players, it forces everybody to be more competitive and be more agrresive as far as pricing and services is concerned...

with postpaid, you have to either call the SUN hotline (200) or visit a sun shop near you to enroll your account for the call and text unlimited promo. u'll pay P250 on top of your monthly service fee..
ex. U have a plan 600 account, add P250 = P850 u get call and text unlimited Sun-to-Sun, and u can spend the whole P600 with calls (local, NDD, or IDD) on other networks, plus u get the usual free text allocation
I haven't tried this yet as my free trial is yet to expire...

well, the way i see it, Sun needs to do this to get new subscribers. what's happening now is that they've clogged their network by getting more than they can comfortably service. this could possibly ruin them, if their service gets worse.
it's undeniable that the popularity of Sun's 24/7 promo is on the rise; it took me 6 tries at different MiniStop's in my office area before I got mine. however, the congestion of the network at peak hours isn't quite what i'd call thrilling.
one interesting repercussion of this promo is that the second-hand market for phones has gotten a shot in the arm from this. a lot of people (myself included) are getting two phones, with the second a dedicated 24/7 one just for contacting people who have Sun too.

That's what my friend initially thought... "hassle" when applying for postpaid line. But it only took him 30 minutes max to get the line. I don't think the requirements are too much hassle... if you don't have an ITR, then show them your bank account. Done :)

hey guys is there anyone here that can help me.... gprs settings for n-gage qd sun prepaid....
It all started one Wednesday Evening between 6-6:30 pm. My friend and I loaded up 150.00 pesos credit for us to be able register and try out the new promo of sun cellular 150.00 Text unlimited for 30 days! Oh diba sulit naman talaga.. imagine nonstop texting for 30 days for just 150.00... Kung sa smart yun 450.00 for 30 days (kasi 30.00 for 2 days ) Kung sa globe naman 300.00 in 30 days (50.00 for 5 days). At mas mura pa rin yun kesa sa unang promo na call and text unlimited (kasi nga may call kaya mahal) yung call and text unlimited kasi 100.00 for 12 days. So that's 8.33 pesos per day and 250.00 for 30 days of use.
Nung nag register na ako.. aba walang bumalik an number string (yun yung parang code na gagamitin to load up the service). my friend told me to wait for 2 hours.. yun daw ang sabi ng cutomer service rep ng sun. So i waited.
I also checked sun cellular's website (mabagal din magbukas yan. im using firefox na ha.). Try no i-click yung link sa baba ng site nakalagay "contact us" wag kayong mabigla kung walang mangyayri... The link just redirects you to the page kung nasan kayo. ASTIG DIBA? Its like saying.. "DON'T CONTACT US! DYAN KA LANG!" Pero meron namang isa pang link.. "CUSTOMER CARE" Ganda ng pangalan! Gumagana naman siya.. (I THINK.. di ko pa kasi na-try magsend ng feedback from there. Baka hindi siya magsend sa sun)
Aba.. at around 10pm.. wala pa rin. I tried calling the sun customer service hotline thru my cp... di ako maka connect!
kinabukasan.. Press 1 for ek ek.. press 2 for ek ek. ok.. so sunod naman ako... tapos wait daw for an operator.. (network busy daw kasi mga operators!). so akong si tanga.. naghintay.. alam mo yung "dead air" na tinatawag? as in ganun.. wala manlang music or kung anuman na nagsasabi sayo an "teka lang ha.. wala pang available na CSR eh. So baba ko phone, tapos dial ulit.. Then i also tried using our landline. either busy or wala talagang opeartor or CSR na sumasagot..
Then i told her my concern. tapos eto sabi saki.. (not the actual dialog, di ko kasi naisulat eh)
"Sorrrrry sir, your call was routed to the post paid line. Kindly dial again. "
So ok.. mali daw eh... Pero for sure i followed what the Automated attendant told me to do so.. (press 1 for post paid, press 2 for pre-paid.. i pressed 2.. promise!)
Dial ulit. Langya.. mukang tulog pa yata ng CSR nila. Nung 3rd try.. may sumagot na!

While I and some of the other Filipinos may understand what you're saying, considering this is an international forum, please restate what you said in English only:cool:

Even though its likely that only Filipino's (or people using sun-cellular-phils) will beable to help you, please keep your posts in English.

I know what it means :p I do it all the time for filipino words I forget the translation to.
I was just wondering what receive was in tagalog.
I feel like i will again have to move alll these posts to a new off topic thread.

Yes, texting seems to be delayed now, when it was okay before. I think SUN is getting too crowded for them to catch up, they're becoming "too popular" too fast.

Hi people, I hate Sun too, although I can't not use Sun, because all the members of the family use it and they want to contact me unlimitedly.. Geeezzz...
I tried chatting with Sun iMessenger and it's also buggy. Sometimes, my session expires without any prompt. And assuming that i was logged out from the system, I tried to login again. And still no prompt whether i did a duplicate login or i had a successful login. I also once lost 2 days of unlimited chatting due to bad network. Sigh.. And when I tried to dial 22 for their hotline. I got this message: "Not allowed!"
