At least, they have much much much much much better value added services than Globe.
I'm sure you've heard of the recently concluded Smart promos: free P900 at Plan 1200, free Nokia 6230 and SE K700i (not sure) at Plan 800, etc... Globe tried to match it but Smart had better deals.

Hey. I use a smart pre paid sim when I'm in the Philippines. Where I am the signal is tons (like super, mega, grabe :D) better than Globe. Eheh, sorry for being just a little bit random but yea. Just agreeing with you.

don't you just LOVE price wars? no matter what happens, the consumer wins! well, unless they oversubscribe and the network starts messing up, like it did last time... :p
i'd just never get a line again, had a bad experience with that :) it gets so tempting sometimes, though...

Don't know whether it's the consumer who wins in the end. I think it's still the mobile operator who wins despite of the good deals they give out. You see, I don't believe in getting tied up for 2-3 years coz of the free phone. You can't downgrade your plan and if you want to cut the line before the period, you have to pay around P10,000 (that's what my friend paid for the disconnection fee). That's why I buy open-line phones.
But I wouldn't mind switching to Addict Mobile if Bianca Araneta and Roseanne Prieto continue to be the endorsers, he he he!! What babes :D

well, at least they drop their prices at all! they only do that when they HAVE to, and the only reason they do that is competition...
hell yeah i do NOT believe in getting tied down :D open line is the way to go!

everytime i go back to the philippines im always enticed to get those free phones and give the line/sim to my siblings but when i compute the monthly subscription fee during the 2 yrs i will be tied up with smart or globe, it is almost the same if i buy the phone without plan/line. the only difference is that the previous is just like you are paying the phone in installment and unless you really use up all the free call time and free SMS, grabbing those offers are really good. so what do you think huh?

It really doesn't matter... You get the phone, give the SIM to your siblings, they have cell service, everyone's happy!
The only reason you shouldn't do it is if they don't need the new line...

I don't believe in getting "chained" for 2 years. I'd rather buy an open-line phone.

2 years isnt that bad, especially if u use up the plan

And worst, I think even if you apply for a new line without the free phones, you still get tied between 6-12 months. I'm not too sure.

im sure phone insurance will be another scheme that will be offered by smart and the other carriers. just dunno if its already feasible to insure phones here...
by the way, does everyone agree that smart is the best carrier in the philippines in terms of...
...coverage?
...signal quality?
...data services/GPRS?
...after sales support (for mobile phone units)?
...customer service (for mobile services)?

Yup, you get tied up for 3 years. My friend went for the k700i for Plan 800 or 1200 and until now, he hasn't gotten the line yet.

My Tita in the Phils upgraded her sim card on Smart, and it took 1 week for her sim card to start working. When she got it Smart had said that it would only take 2-3 hours. Imagine not texting or calling etc. for a whole week!

thats bad... my experience tells me that almost 3 out 5 calls to smart numbers (whether using a smart mobile phone, a landline or a globe phone) doesnt get through. and when it does get through i get one-way audio... though signal isn't a problem especially if you're in the metro.

Hmm... maybe I'l stay with Globe. At least I don't experience the problems that you mentioned.
Hey, there's this new mobile insurance promo advertised on tv. You have to text a certain number and it'll give you the details on how to join.

One-time payment only? Or is this annually?
The catch could be when claiming, the might require you to give all sorts of documents such as police reports, etc... I'm not gonna fall into that trap :D

not so sure bout the terms...but at those figures (e.g. 2500k!!) terms should be annual! yup they'll surely require an affidavit or police report...

Hey, Addict Mobile's new prepaid service only charges P3.00/mms. But I guess it's only with the Smart network, right?

I dont know bout you guys, but Globe is the original GSM. I can still remember how Smart was trashing GSM when it was introduced by Globe, unless Smart offers something like or just close to Sun's 24/7, then Globe pa rin ako... but i may get Sun soon...
