Its probably because they trying to stay ahead of yahoo, because a couple of weeks back yahoo upgraded their systems so that the free addresses can store up to 100 MB of mail.

Hey, yea, I start my GCSEs next year as well! (Meaning you're in the same year as me :)). I really need to buy a thumbdrive :D. So, what GSCEs are you doing? I have: Maths, Sciences, English, (ofcourse), Geography, Spanish, French, Business Studies, ICT (compulsory at my school:(), um I think that's it.

im doing.....maths, biology, physics (dropping chemistry were alowed) english, french, ict, Sports Study and Sports physcholigy, Resistant materials(DT), thats it i think.....It is compulsory but we can do full course or short course, im doing fll because im dropping chemistry!
and yahoo will have to put there size limit up otherwise there gunna lose out on a lot of customers

And gcses are the 1st level of school work that you take to your future employees, you do these when your about 12/13/14 yeas old, just before (in england) we go on to do our A levels and then university degrees etc.

GSCE course starts in grade 9, and you take the actual GCSE exams at the end of grade 10.

Ah... I didn't know that! (I'm not too familiar with the British school system)

Anyway, I haven't heard anything about a possible Y! Mail storage upgrade... Most likely they will when Hotmail comes out with their 250 MB...
When Gmail comes out, both Y! and Hotmail will likely increase their storage to 1 GB...then we'll probably be stuck with 1 GB for quite some time.

I dont know why but i dont think hotmail will increase it to 1gb unless you pay for it as they have the most accounts anyway and i dont think they will lose any, anyway just my thoughts, and msn messenger is alot better than y!messenger so....I duno

yeh good point, but people wouldnt worry about having that amount of storage because they would have to have about 500mesages or lots of big attachments to fill it....

It's not really available EVERYWHERE, because then Yahoo and Hotmail would have it. It is available yes, but not everywhere. I never knew about free 1GB 'til thatthread some time back. I'm guessing a lot of people don't know about it, so if Hotmail and Yahoo introduce it, then the 1GB can truly be used.

oh and the gcse thing..did mine last year it seemed so big but after uv dun then no one cares or talks bout them any more...i was the first person on results day and i got the bests results...on sheet it said 9a*2a....now im dreading my as results cos im gonna fail them...spent to much time lookin at phones

...yeah i need the big 250mb to transport my work too...the school pcs have stopped letting us use floppy disks and my cdrewriter is on another computer so thats useless....

Um, yea, the teachers made my KS3 SATS sound so big, but afterwards, it doesn't really matter! Um yea, so anyway I'm guessing that the 250mb will be instantaneous, as Yahoo's jump from 6mb to 100mb was. If you want large space (for free!) try www.walla.com - 1GB!

Erm Yahoo upgraded itself to 100MB about two weeks ago.

Really? Oh well. I guess that's really going to hit hard on the number of users on Yahoo...I used to predominately use Yahoo because it had more memory. Oh well...we'll see.

The reason why i wont change from Yahoo to Hotmail is because ive been using a yahoo email address for like 5 or 6 years now, so it'll be such a mission to give everyone a new email address, sigh :(

What i meant is that if i have to get a hotmai account my email address would change to @hotmail.com, and ive had a @yahoo.com address for like 6 years so id have to give a ton of people a new email address.

free yahoo accounts went to 100mb for and 2gb for paid customers about 4 weeks ago.

hotmail waited till last and have gone for 250mb for free accounts and 2gb for the paid.

i dont think hotmail or yahoo will budge even when google opens its doors to the public. 100mb and especially 250mb is respectable, and seeing as most people currently use yahoo and hotmail they will be reluctant to change, to google, especially as hotmail offer to virus scan and clean messages, large attachments and calendar etc. also google does not have a messenging service that can be combined with that one email address and add to that, all the stuff about google scanning emails to display relevant adds, google doesn't seem as good as it first did. i think alot of people will open a google account but i dont think many will stop using their yahoo/ hotmail accounts.

hotmail rep said upgrades should start any day now for paid customers but dont hold your breath

You can keep the same adress with yahoo and sign up using that adres on hotmail, because tehre all clased as net passports...

i had subscribed for the 100mb nearly 60us$ and now **** i regret it, well anyways they have already upgraded my account to 2gb just checked today!!

cdcover has a 1gb account now mundets sent him a 900 mb file which cdover forward to me and than he realize that he forgot shaheen so he forward him too after doing that he download this 900 mb file to his computer again using servers bandwidth now his account badwidth meter shows that cdover has used 900 mb space and 3.6 gb of bandwidth and at that time cdover is not the only one using his account and transfering large files on the 1 gb server so these transfering made the server so slow that no one else can even access his/her accounts .

the point is :the i gb account u people talking abt has how much bandwidth for uploading and downloading files in a day.
i think it would be 100 mb per day

i hope u people understand

Usually they have 10 megabyte caps on attachments. At least, gMail does. I don't often use my gMail/Hotmail/Yahoo accounts because I get a free one from my school, plus I own a domain name with 1gb of mail server space.

Yeah, I think that the maximum attachment size is 1059 KB, or something like that. A Megabyte. I'm so glad cdover shared a bit of info on other server. And his recommendation works really good.

According to what I have read, yes. That's all we've got to do. At least that's what says, for example Excite. And that's what Yahoo! did. I also read it in a Hotmail ad, I think.

I'm waiting for Hotmail to get to 250MB rather than use Gmail's 1GB because of two reasons:

1. I like using MSN Messenger, which tells me when I've received an e-mail
2. When I'm not online, I can use MSN Mobile which sends me a reminder to my mobile phone

Unless G-Mail comes up with a G-Mail Cell Phone Reminder or something ...

I mean, I guess I should have seen this coming and all (with Yahoo doing the same thing) but this pretty much kills hotmail for me.

In the article above, they make this claim that doing this will somehow reduce spam...but I think that they are just throwing some of that kind of talk in so that it obscures that they are charging for what used to be a free service (anyone recall that with earlier versions of Outlook and outlook express that they encouraged you to sign up for a free hotmail account and use the free POP3 access?).

I won't totally get rid of it since I still use MSN Messenger... but I'm not even going to try and use hotmail for anything serious anymore.

umm... i think you can still use pop3, it's just the built in support in outlook and outlook express (using Web dav, whatever that is) that goes to paying customers. oh, and still no 250 mb

yeah, my bad - when I mentioned "pop3", I meant using Outlook to access hotmail (which is http anyway).

I guess you can still use POP3 with hotmail, but if the limit is still 2 mb, there seems to be little point for that.

I use Outlook for work and at home; it's really easy with hotmail hooked up to it too (not to mention that you can transfer emails out onto your hard drive so the 2 MB limitation is not as restrictive).

Having to open a new browser window,log on, view a bunch of ads and MSN today and whatnot seems like a big step down.

Oh well. I guess gmail or a personal email account will have to be the way to go now.
