i agree, although i don't know much about Sendo phones, it is great to see that a company "gets it" when it come to designing a phone. this phone seems to be loaded with all the right features and in a nice compact form and with a normal keypad layout. the aluminum body with brushed stainless gives it a quality look. if the price is reasonable this is a phone i will buy.

That's exactly what I thought when I was writing the article. Here's a company that has thought about what people want in a phone, and designed it to accomodate them.
I just hope that it doesn't have issues with battery life, and it is actually released in time to compete with the 6600 and SX1. It could just be the fight of the year...

true, we can only wait and see if the phone actually performs well with all of these included functions. we often have to sacrifice one, such as battery life, for the other(i.e. 64k screen).
yes...again you hit on a great point. how often we read about the new phones that are about to hit the market only to wait for what seems like an unreasonable amount of time before the phone is actually available to the consumer. i understand the marketing aspect of releasing information to the public, but the consumer backlash caused by the constant delays wipes out any good that marketing creates through leaking info.

I think the real bain successful product releases is the longer than expected schedule to work out bugs in a product. If a phone gets delayed, I would guess it is due to bugs found at the last minute. Then there is the other side where it is released on time and the early users become the beta testers. That can be worse!
I think the mark of a good new company is its ability to release a product on time, as promised, and with almost no issues (bugs). If this phone delivers what is promised, I just might be willing to plunk down the money for sim free version.
The real clincher for me would be the resolution of the camera. Anyone heard what it will be? At least 0.3Mpixels like the Nokia 3650. More would be better like those nice japanese 1.3Mpixel phones! And this phone has a flash too. Ok, I think this is finally a bit over the top....

The resolution will be VGA (640x480). Personally I don't mind the flash, but the red-eye reduction is a bit over the top. The camera is not sharp enough for the reduction to matter.
Another "feature" is that since it's based on Series 60, all of the great Series 60 apps will work on it.

question---SE P900 vs. the Sendo X? I have had no experience with these or any smart phones---which one looks better at this time?
lfchristian

well i haven't had the chance to experience the p900 but i have had a p800 for 4 months so i have the closest thing. looking at the list of functions for the sendo x and comparing these to the p900 i would have to say the only thing the p900 has that the sendo doesn't is touch screen. so this could be a buyers decision point, do you need touch screen? however the sendo looks significantly smaller so it wins on that front.

The Sendo X is 108 cc in volume, compared to the 160 cc for the P900, so it's a fair bit smaller.
I tried to guesstimate the actual size from that and just ended up with a headache!
Camera is the now-standard 640x480 pixel job. Screen is a fairly decent 176x220 pixels. It's pretty well loaded for a smartphone.
On the background, the phone is built for Sendo (a British company) by Celestica in their plant near Prague in the Czech Republic. This gives much lower manufacturing costs than most of Sendo's rivals, so that's why they can afford to squeeze in so much stuff.
Incidentally, they designed the fairly neat Sendo M550 (http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=443) too. Most of their other phones are fairly cheap pay-as-you-go ones.
Remember Sendo are the ones locked in the David versus Goliath struggle with Microsoft (see here (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/mobile/0,39020360,39116812,00.htm) here). Sendo put in a lot of work into developing the Windows Smartphone platform because they had a massive falling out. In other words, Sendo know the smartphone concept better than most, so I guess that's another reason why the X seems to be such a decent handset.

The actual dimensions of the phone are 110x48.5x22.6 mm
Don't know about SE P900, but Sendo X has a faster processor than the Nokia Series 60 Smartphones, it's smaller, lighter, has more features and will most probably be cheaper than the phones it's going up against (Siemens SX1, Nokia 6600). The only reason one might have picking another Series 60 phone over this one would be integrated radio for SX1 or Series 60 ver 2.0 (running on top Symbian 7.0s) for 6600.

truly is one of the most promising phones out there. i came to know abt the Sendo X coz i picked up a low-end Sendo S200 when i lost my SonyEricsson T310 :( in a cab.
So yea, just curious about the price of this baby. Else, it looks like THE phone. P900 scores with the touch screen but I'd still go for the Sendo X for the sound features & looks!

Hi there, it is awsome that Sendo will be selling a full size QUERTY keyboard with the X, has anyone seen pictures or heard any rumors about it?

Three G have got a good gallery of live pics inc. one with the folding keyboard: http://www.threegmobile.net/international/index.html
This looks like a great phone and i hope its cheap enough to get instead of the P900 (which literally makes me salivate) :)

the first time i heard about this phone i was very excited about what i saw. now that i have read the initial expressions i can see that the sendo x may not be all i initially had hoped.
some of the negative in the first impressions were:
not so great screen
keys are not easy to use
5-way navigation button not easy to use
if sendo were to take this feedback and try to correct these negatives, then the phone would never make the 1st qtr '04 release they are shooting for. if they were truely going to make this date the production and materials for the phone would all be in place already. so imo these negatives will come with the phone when first released.
the negatives concerning the slow performance could possibly be corrected by the initial release of the phone.
what does all this prove? well, we are all constantly asking for the perfect phone to come our way. it just looks like we may have to wait even longer. however, i still think this phone beats everything out in the market place currently. the memory, the build, and if this phone is a good rf performer it should be really popular.
"The Sendo X 65K TFT screen is not brighter than only 4096 STN screen of Nokia 3650."
What exactly are they referring to? If they are really talking about brightness, then the 3650 was fine. As for the keys and joystick, I'm sure that they can improve on these very easily because they are just small parts that can easily replaced.

Or, knowing most companies, they will just ignore all early user feedback.

Jorgen was actually there, I believe. I had the advantage of not being there. Sid and I listened to the presentation, I went off and got my hair cut, got back two hours later (traffic), and still was able to get the story up hours before he could.
Since he never takes his own photos there is much less value to actually going to the events. I would have had a lot of photos of the thing which would have made it worth it.
For all the Hong Kongers........

Hello Marijke,
I just have one more question. I will be getting this phone when it comes
to Hong Kong. Can you tell me which providers will have it so I don't sign
a contract with the wrong people?
I am guessing one of them won't be Orange since they're in cahoots with MS.
:)
Thanks
Chris
