Come Q4, 6630 will be released! 7610 will no longer be as hot as it is right now! 1 Mp cam will be replaced by 1.3 Mp cam.
But the shape and size of 6630 (atleast on the pics displayed on Nokia.com) dont look that good! In 7610 the looks were damn good! but no stereo and the gprs is very slow!
my question! does 6630 have a Stereo output? Does it have edge? can someone please point out the difference between 7610 and 6630. It would help because i have to decide whether to buy 6630 or not as i have to start collecting the required funds from now!! It would be of good help if someone pinpoints the differences between the 2 phones... :(

"7610 will no longer be as hot as it is right now" - Don't say that again . Nokia 6630 is taking the shape of the 6600 again. That was the main reason why I left the 6600.
6630 has Stereo output. I don't think it has EDGE, but it does have EGPRS (whatever that is)
You're going to get the 6630 because it has 0.3 extra Mega Pixels? Pfft ...

lol you mean the 6630 is takng the shape of the 3660 again but in a smaller size.

EGPRS = EDGE , ENHANCED G.P.R.S. :D, Nokia_au 7610 RULEZ!
Toocool
07-11-2004, 07:23 AM
yeah 7610 rulzz i guess its the best phone around at the moment! but i doubt whether EGPRS means EDGE! i read it on a nokia site it says the Nokia 6630 supports EDGE and EGPRS!
mundets
07-11-2004, 08:01 AM
EGPRS is probably faster than regular GPRS, but slower than EDGE.
Just a guess, though...

07-11-2004, 08:11 AM
I thought E-GPRS means EDGE, if its not that then maybe something like what mundets is mentioning.
mundets
07-11-2004, 08:20 AM
But if E-GPRS is EDGE, then why did they not name E-GPRS EDGE, or vice versa?
Toocool
07-11-2004, 09:04 AM
you got it right, if E-GPRS is EDGE they can simply say its EDGE right!!! and one more thing i dont know why they are creating new things!!! in some places gprs is not available, in most places EDGE is not available and now they say E-GPRS what the F*** is their problem?
Instead of introducing something like Optical zoom, 2 Mp cam good app (atleast give some games with the phones you sell nokia, my 7610 came with no games at all), better display etc they come up with E-GPRS...
Today EDGE
Tommorrow E-GPRS
Day After E-EDGE
God only know what is in store after that! the only question is what is the use of having a new feature if your network doesnt support it!!

07-11-2004, 09:09 AM
Hahahahaha!
I want more features!
I don't need any newfangled data tranfer protocol junk!
Toocool
07-11-2004, 10:47 AM
right! well said! i too want more features!! better looking phone!!
Come one nokia concentrate on camera, display and looks of the phone!! We do not need advanced (which the newtwork doesnt supprot data feature) on our smartphones!!!

7xxx phone still look good though; if there was another 7650 (yes i remember the fake 7650i's) then i'd most definitely go for it.. i loved the slider design and the protected camera, etc.. they was cool in my opinion.
... but 7610 is also good in terms of looks and size, especially compared to a 3650 or 6600. 6630 looks like a 6600 and 3650 combined, so i think i'll steer clear of it.

What about the fact that the 6630 is far smaller than the 6600 and 3650/3660? and lighter too. Infact I remember reading its either a tiny big bigger or even a tiny bit smaller (or maybe even the same size) as the 7610, but not by much. Its not simply a modern phone squashed into a 3650's body for the sake of it.

thats true, but honestly how often would any of you actually use video calling? I know I would hardly use it, if not never at all, simply because a) the user base for 3G is still small and b) the frame rate is absolutely appauling. Then again, from what people have said about the video calling quality on the 6630, its apparently far smoother than any previous 3G model, so heres hopeing I guess.

Pricing is another issue here. It'd probably might be 10 dollars for a 2min. video call. C'mon, even with GPRS introduced long ago, the telcos in Singapore charge us GPRS users a really high rate. My bill must have included at least SG$30+ of GPRS data usage.
So if 3G would come out, I bet that they will charge us at a very high rate, as it would use a lot of resources I suppose.

Yea, and that would mean that every time someone calls you, you'd need to find your phone, see who's calling you, decide if you want to speak to them, find that attachment, align the phone to the plug, then plug it in, THEN pick up. Sheesh, it would take too long.

Perhaps the 6670 will include it. Along with stereo mp3, a radio, IR, and anything else the 6630 does not include.

NOKIA are really smart-asses. When SE is including 2 cameras on their phones for VID. calling Nokia wants you to spend extra!

ok, lets get some things into perspective....
1. Video calling is not seen by Nokia (and rightly so) as a big market, as not that many people use it and the networks are only just getting the hang of it.
2. The video stand is'nt meant for use while walking around, its more a business thing for standing the phone up and if someone calls you while your at your desk you just press one button and you can have a video call with them. Persoanlly I think this is better because have you ever tried video calling while walking? It makes both users of the phones feel sea sick lol
and 3. Cdover, the 6630 DOES have Stereo MP3, and would'nt calling it the 6640 or 6650 make more sense than 6670?

'Ang on. I already knew the 6630 had stereo mp3, I wonder why I posted that! Haha, I obviously wasn't thinking at the time. Anyway...well putting a '4' in the name would mean it would be bad luck for the Asia market, like how they renamed the 3410 to the 3315 here, and there's already a 6650 :).

3310, 3315, 3330, 3390? (depending on locale) are all pretty much the same phone, except 3330 has WAP, 3315 had something different in it... but as many people have noted, (but hopefully this'll change in the future) Nokia kept the same designs for their phones but modified the insides slightly to make them different... this contrasts how they made the phones inside the same with say.. 7250i/6610i, but they put different covers on them to target different audiences.

Yup, knew that. But I was talking about the 3410 and the 3315. They ARE the same RIGHT? I mean the 3410 isn't sold in the Asian Pacific, and the 3315 isn't sold elsewhere BUT the Asian Pacific.

I never saw 3410 in Australia, but I'd be curious to hear what you could describe about the game? I thought 3410 would be same as 3610 (no poly though?) or same as 3350.
