View Full Version : Charging Phones!

few questions about charging a nokia handset!
1) My Nokia 7610 takes 1 1/2 hours to charge completely! is it the same with the other 7610 handsets?
2) what i usually do is keep the phone for charging in the night when i sleep and switch the charger off in the morning! so effectively the charger is on for about 8 hours continously! Some say its harmful for the battery some say its good! When i bought the handset from a Nokia Dealer he told me charging a phone for 3 to 4 hours continously is good for the batt! is it true?
3) Does the battery remain in good condition, if i keep the phone for charging only after the battery is completely drained out? I usually charge my phone everyday! 7610 batt doesnt come for more than a day for me! but sometimes it isnt completely out! there is quite some battery powerful left in my phone, is it harmful for the battery, if i charge it at this stage?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Well it would be good to charge it after its drained out and it is a good thing to charge it with the phone off and the worst scenerio (similar to mine) is charge it while using it. In the newer handsets it doesnt make much difference and anyways who keeps the phone for that long!

I'll have to keep my 7610 (not that I'm regretting it :D) for 28 months ... because I'm on a contract with the Service Provider :p

man that sucks, I'd hate to be on a contract that long.
Here, its 12-month contracts, and even then if you don't want to carry it on after like 6 months you can sneakily drop it down the lowest tariff (like £15/month) and then a week later say to them that you want to pay off your contract, and they let you give them a lump sum for the rest of your line rental between now up until the 12 month period and then they cut you off, so the phone's yours and you've paid off very little to them to finish early in comparison.

Very few people (especially not you nk_au) will be satisfied with their phones for more than 12 months.. considering you seem to change phones almost biannually.
My 7610 charges in about an hour and a bit as well, I think I remember reading that the norm is 90minutes for this phone. I never really test it, but I'm using the latest Nokia express chargers. Apparently charging when only half depleted doesn't really affect the new batteries used by Nokia. I still remember in the old analogue days when the Nokia charger had a discharge button.

If I have the money, I'll change phones twice a year (it's convenient since my birthday is in June...and 6 months after that Christmas!).
But I think my upcoming 7610 will last me for a while.

Yeah, even if I would want to change phone, I'd keep my 7610 with me! It's way too precious!! Anyway I'll be waiting for a 3 megapix camera from Nokia with Symbian and everything else in a 7610 but with stereo sound and FM radio. Then I'll consider changing if its design is cool and funky.
Back to the main point. Toocool, I also charge my phone during the night for 6-8 hours. But I'd only do it when my phone's battery is low or is depleted. :)

from all i've read Li-ion batteries will last longer if charged regularly and not allowed to fully discharge. same as all new phones, the Apple iPod, and notebooks. The old school of thought stating to allow your batteries to fully discharge before recharging comes from the days of Ni-Cad or Nickel Cadmium batteries. These had an unfortunate characteristic of "memory" where as they would "remember" the charge cycle or time in between charges, thus shortening its total ability to maintain a charge for any extended period of time. Enter the new age of tech and Li-Ion came on the scene as lighter and a bit immune to the whole memory effect (Li-Ion's do suffer from memory power leakage when not in use). Granted, all batteries have a life cycle and once that life cycle (or number of total charges) has been reached the battery will start to lose it's ability to maintain a full charge like when it was new. Most life cycles I've seen have been between 400 and 500 (more than a year if charged everyday). With that being the case, charge your phone every night without worries; I've charged all my phones every night and have never had to replace any of the batteries... yet. :) After full day (18 hrs or so) of normal use (not quite heavy) my phone reaches full charge in roughly 45 mins. or so. Hope this helps.

I've heard that if you drain the battery, then wrap it up in newspaper, then put it inside a plastic container, then leave it in the freezer for upto 4 days (i think...it's either that or a week), and your batt has now 25% more energy, or about the same when you first got it. Sounds weird, but it's supposed to work - the newspaper absorbs all the dampness inside, and the plastic container keeps it dry.

I have a spare BL-5C battery next to me which I don't use ...
That's if my current battery only lasts an hour or something :D
The 7610 can last me for awhile ... but I might buy X-Press On Covers just to give it a new "feel".
I have the Onyx (White/Gold) at the moment. Looking for a Genuine Ruby (Black/Red) along with a Genuine keypad :p

cause they got it in limited quantities first to tease the market. they didnt wana do wat they did witht the 6230.like they made alot of money but not wat they wanted. they just threw it into the market and people just took it as another phone. but this is mean to be a feat of greatness..its aussies FIRST 1MP CAMERA! :O:O:O:O:O!.. so yea its meant to be like the holy grael and a collectors item or something... on the day i saw it was the day they got it. so the guy was so blur about the specs i was telling him stuff.. when he said it was a 1.3mp camera i said it was 1 and he flipped through the manual, couldnt find wat he was lking for and he said that i was probably right. they had the new Ngage QD there as well which was tight.
