technically, in 6230 hot swap is possible if there was an external slot

6230:
After modding the headset, I was partly inspired and checked out the MMC slot. basically i opened the back case, left the mmc dangling a bit and had the battery hanging off. i went to gallery and could see the card

then i lifted the battery a bit. removed the mmc. in gallery it was no longer there. i inserted it again and it was there again

ALL HAPPENING WHILE THE PHONE WAS ON

so technically hot swap is possible if we dismantle it and drill a slot on the side. obviously the card won't be long enough to touch the pins but we could just add to the end of the mmc.

we wouldn't just drill the slot but also cut off the current place that holds the mmc into place.

the mod won't be easy, and as a matter of fact quite dangerous and risky, but it would be helluva convenient in the end.

anyone adventurous or got any ideas?

Would anyone be adventurous enough to risk a $500 investment just for a bit more convenience?

Ah, btw, does anyone know if the 6260 is hot-swappable?

6260: technically its hotswappable, you don't have to take out the battery

well basically you dismantle the frame from the electronics and you cut down the frame... potentially harmful yes but if someone could find a safe, straightforward way then that would be cool

So that means that the 6260 has a slot on the outside for RS-MMCs...
Woohoo!

6260 has no slot on the outside, you still have to remove the back cover and then remove the RS-MMC, but you do not have to remove the battery nor have to turn off the phone...

thats why I'm impressed with the 6630, because it could be a sign of whats to come with Nokia regarding hot-swapable cards (finally).

I thought N-Gage QD did that ages ago ...

Hot-Swap is very much possible I dont think its a hardware thing, but who the hell cares, If the startup time was a bit long then maybe. But in the current state its of no use!

What I'm puzzled is, why would you want Hot-Swap?

Why waste the effort? Buy a larger capacity memory card the first time!

That's why QD and 6630 would be useless to me ...

u know MainframeAI, that is exactly what i was thinking... u beat me to it.. but i dont think i will be tryin it out on my 6230... i was thinkin of using some sort of wire to connect the phone pins to the new location of the mmc.
btw. how did u lift the battery out without the phone getting turned off?

Even I wanted to know this, I think it will turn off 99 times out of 100 if I try it.

lol well it doesn't turn off when i do it but i'm still very careful. the key is don't lift it too high then obviously the pins won't detach

i studied it today...(without dismantling it, obviously) just unscrew the parts from the frame, then saw or chainsaw or drill or whatever the bit off... then put the frame back on and the case, close everything, extend your MMC and stick it in...

but unfortunately, i'm not trained or whatever in construction and i will probably actually wreck it due to being nervous, due to fear

would someone please pass this post to all other mobile forums and see what they think

Chainsaw??? A bit extreme, don't you think?

Mainframe dont mess around with it too much, if it gets boinked you will have to kick yourself, and it also voids the warrenty (if any).

I've got insurance that covers it but im not trying it just for the hassle of waiting for a new phone when i mess up this 1!

Ah good point, the QD does do that too.
And the advantages of Hot-Swap, theres loads. I've got several friends with SD/MMC slots on their phones, and I myself have an SD slot on my SPV, the same on my digital camera and I did have one on my PDA before I sold it, plus if I ever buy an MP3 player I'd prolly make sure it supports a similar memory type.
So, having hot-swapping would be damm handy, I can't imagine my SPV without it. Plus it looks cool because not that many mainstream phones have it :)

For a multimedia oriented person hot-swap would be really cool as he/she is handling a lot of media files in different MMC. The 6230 has good MP3 playback, too bad no HOT-SWAP!
