hi, considering a very high price difference between the 2, (6600 and 7610) would it be great to just settle with 6600 instead of buying 7610 since it doesnt have much added features anyway.

Pls help me decide. Here in PI, 6600 costs around Php18k+ whereas 7610 costs Php28k+. a big big difference thats why i really cant decide what to buy.

I havent owned a s60 phone yet, in case this will be my first time, so i was hoping i could enjoy having it not worrying that i paid too much for a worthless one.

Thanks all.

first up, they are both great phones... but if you've never used s60, then you'll get a great experience from both.. they are nearly identical, except lack of normal MMC slot on 7610 and no infrared.. whilst IR is really cool when you use apps like IR remote, its not entirely necessary.. and you WILL need to buy some form of connection between ur PC and phone whether it be IR, Bluetooth or the USB cable.. some countries have 7610s which come with the cable, but my singaporean one did not.

... anyway, if you want to make the most of it i'd say get 7610, its smaller, and has better camera... but if the price is a bit out of reach, then either wait for it to drop or get 6600 if it isn't too big for u.

i wouldnt mind to hav a less better cam of 6600, coz i dont think i would be much using it anyway, my prob is, i really like the looks and size of 7610 better than 6600... plus i want IR... if there are no major differences than what u have mentioned.... hmm.. i guess 6600 wud be a better choice then? right? think of that Php10k- i could save. ;-)

i'm not sure how much that is worth in my currency (AUD) nor how much it is worth to you (ie. if you were a billionaire, then $100 isn't worth that much to u etc..) ...

7610's size/shape is what makes it considerably better and more attractive than 6600. I personally find the 6600 far too fat (bear in mind i'm a 17 yr old in high school with limited pocket space), but featurewise it will probably be better for you if you plan on using IR.

It depends what you want your phone for. Is it meant to impress? Is it a business phone? Is it important to be able to do.. (insert something)?

well well, it would be like $200 difference in US currency, and my my.. that is big for me.

This would be my first time to have a s60 phone in case, so id say there is that little "wanting to impress" inside me... but... if that would be my major concern i'd probably be waiting for N9500 instead...

I just want something to play on, not like a s40 phone with nothing much to do. The only prob i will have with 6600 is, i find it too big and fat as well,(i have a small hand btw) but 7610 has a really cool design for me.

mmm... I think if you were to compare the heights of the two phones, they're about the same. It's in the width that the 2 phones differ - the 6600 is indeed fatter. But overall - including thickness, they're mostly the same I think.

if you get a 7610, you will gain:

- a better camera
- reduced size MMC
- an integrated mp3 player (mp3's can also be played by the 6600, using 3rd party software)
- a 10 min video taking (same capability on the 6600, again thru 3rd party software)

but if you get a 7610, you will loose:

- the IR port. (do you have a need to exchange files with another phone? a PDA without bluetooth? a laptop without bluetooth? If yes, then get a 6600)
- the ability to send midi thru MMS
- the ability to use regular sizes MMC. (mini MMC's are not yet that prolific, so that makes em quite expensive still).

cheers!

If you can wait a couple or a few months then do so. Itll drop in price sooner than you think. Mobile phones get obsolete way too quick nowadays.

Look around and Im sure youll get it for cheaper, try ebay also.

I hurried to get my mobile asap cos i fried my old phone so I had no way of calling people let alone get their # out of my fried phone.

hey i also have a quetion on this topic, i have a 6600 and i ant 2 get a 7610 and i was wonderin

1. is the screen of the 7610 better than the 6600?

2. the videos taken from 7610 better than 6600?

3. does it still lag like the 6600?

thanx

Get the 6600.
A MP cam is pretty useless, especially if you're going to pay P10k more.

Daniel Radcliffe (i think thats how u spell it.. harry potter) who is earning millions of dollars and popular, doesn't want to be seen carrying a run-of-the-mill el-cheapo 1xxx nokia for example.. and 7610 is one of those phones which looks really cool but doesn't cost that much (as that verita? i think thats how u spell it)..

1 & 2- hard to say, they should be the same but i think 7610 is slightly better.. i'm not an expert and i don't have a 6600, best ask nk_au~

Dude you talk so much **** its cute :D

Who gives a crap what mobile phone Harry Potter has! If NOKIA are paying him to use their phone then that is a totally DIFFERENT story!
Celebrities dont need to have the latest phones to look the hip man, ever notice how celebs dress down and wear ****ty clothes so people can actually leave them alone?

If Radcliffe wanted to look really cool then he would buy a small phone company to himself!

It doesnt make much difference to him if he would have bought a 7610 or 3310! They dont spend hours every day reading up on what mobile is cool and what isnt, let alone which has blue tooth or mp3 player. They have gigs, meetings and shoots coming up, mobile phones to them mean a talking tool not a fashion statement!

How old are you? 15?

If you can't decide between the 2, you can always get a Siemens SX1. :) (However, I"m pretty sure that the price of that phone will take you into the mid P20,000s).

With Nokia issuing 40 phones this year, you'll at least be part of the Top 40! LOL

SX1's keypad sucks. Don't get it unless you are willing to re-educate your fingers.

A 6600 is probably adequate for someone who has a budget and is a newcomer(i wont say noobie:D) to s60 phones.

1. The screen's brightness can be adjusted on the 7610, and is a bit brighter than the 6600's

2. The video cam's quality more or like the same since the highest quality possible is 176x144 pixels.

3. I didn't have a 6600 before but I tried out my friend's one. It lags a little more than the current 7610, so the 7610's lag is reduced slightly. Better than nothing eh? ;)

what i suggest is, go for 6600.. 2 reasons..

(i am using both 6600 and 7610 these days)

1) it cost $200 less (in one of your posts you mentioned it). i agree the pic quality is not that good. but if you save that $200 you cant buy a 4 or 5 MP digital cam!! The picture quality will be superb!!! you cant compare it with a 7610 or any phone in the market today!!.

2) There isnt much difference between the 2 phones.. the looks of 7610 is much better! the screen is a bit brighter.. the keypad is different and sexy shape!! but its just not worth the $200 difference!!

Dont mistake me 7610 is a excellent phone but i dont think its worth 200 usd more...

but one more think if you can wait till the end of the year or atleast till october or november you will get a lot more options and the 7610 will be 200 usd less!!!

All the best!!! Think carefully before you buy!!

just to add....

the 1mp camera advantage of the 7610 can be easily offset by a 6600 using PhotoAcute. (a 3rd party software which can do up to 1.3mp photos). The corresponding file size of a 1.3mp picture is of course larger than the 1mp picture of the 7610... but both are too large to be sent thru MMS anyway.

:)

try to fill up the 7610's internal memory up to 50 to 60 percent (with text messages, tones, pictures, and other files...) you'll probably notice that it now is the same speed as a 6600.

just one more thing to add:

if you're a heavy texter, or if you're into text messaging in a big way, you might find the 7610 a bit uncomfy.

I heard that when starting a new message, in the send to: box, the 7610 (like the 3650) defaults to numeric mode NOT alpha mode like the 6600. (you just have to input the first one or two letters....)

just my 2 cents

(to 7610 owners: pls verify).

I'd have to say after using the phone for 1 day and counting, the key pad is actually very comfortable. The keys are soft but sturdy and the swoosh key layout actually makes it nice to type on.

As for defaulting to numbers when your in the "To:" box , you just have to push the navi button in, then it goes to the phone book where it defaults to charaters. I dont see anything wrong with that :)

P.S
I'm a heavy texter :)

yup, nothin really wrong with that, it's just that - well... it adds more button pushes. If you're texting all the time - you might find it annoying? When I tried out a 7610 - I did.
I keep wondering why nokia made it alpha mode on the 6600 and numeric mode on the 7610? Both have symbian 7.0 so why cant they operate the same way?

anyway, it's nothin major.

Hello

Just to add my own experiences. I've had a 6600 before, and I loved it utterly. I was totally planning to stay with it indefinitely until circumstances forced me to upgrade to the 7610. So now I have a 7610 and now I love IT utterly. Here are my thoughts on comparing the two...

The size difference between the two phones is deceptive, but yes, the 7610 is at least thinner and more stylish. While the 6600 is 'fat', it's filled with features. The 7610 is leaner but has almost identical features. The 7610 is far more stylish and sexy, while the 6600 is more 'cute' and playful- almost like a gameboy or toy.
Overall though, the 7610's build and feel are totally solid and it feels great when you hold it.

The screen of the 7610 is brighter and slightly clearer than the 6600, though they are supposedly the same size.

There is no comparing the 6600's camera, even with PhotoAcute, with the Megapixel cam of the 7610. PhotoAcute is a graphical trick, and you have to stay focused on the subject for several seconds, and 'rendering' the pic takes up to a few minutes max. The pics on the 7610 are far, far better. You may not think you need the good camera, but you never know- and to have the best camera is always preferrable. The strength of cameraphones is the ability to snap away at anytime, without the hassle of a real camera- and really, unless you are a professional photographer, reporter or stalker, why would you be carrying around a camera? Hehheh

The interface of 7610 and 6600 are close, but 7610 is easier to maneuver around, and a lot faster- composing MMS, changing themes, arranging files, etc.

My only gripe with the 7610 is the reduced-size MMC card, which is hard to find and as yet only available in 128 MB. Right now, you can get 256 MB easily almost anywhere for the 6600, and fill that up with tons of junk to occupy your time with and play around with when you're bored.

You will enjoy using Symbian OS! I've filled up my 7610 game folder with over a dozen cool games, I have videos and pics and cool stuff to play with at anytime.

If you can wait or have the means, get a 7610. The 6600 is also great, and if you really need to upgrade now, you won't regret getting that either. Either or, you'll be fine with either of these beauties.

MADman

So far, anyone who sees pics on the phone's screen readily say it's a lot clearer than before in other phones. But the proof though is in the zooming. Zoom in or download the pic to a computer and see the details for yourself.

Again, the megapixel cam isn't something to compare with real, serious standalone cameras- but for a cameraphone that you can bring anywhere anytime for instant pics, it's great.

I take it you mean the phones screen? Yes, the 7610 has a sharper camera image when your using the camera on the phone. My cousin has a 6600 and we were comparing the two phones side by side when we were both using the camera. There is a noticeable difference.

.. and

.... there are so many progams available you'll start goin nuts! ... although there's also alot of warez on irc and whatnot.. but there's still alot of good legit stuff too!

.... and congrats on the 7610.

... one last note- i prefer 7610/6600 over a p900/xda... purely because i've come to realise that pressing keys (as in real buttons) is soo much better than touchscreen interfaces.. sure writing on a palm looks cool but it gets tediously annoying and slow.

hey guys..wuz busy for a while..(i'm sure no one missed me) anyway..

i'd the 7610 is the way to go.. it's lighter, sleeker, sexier and has the newer version of the symbian OS..as of now the new OS will not make much of an impact but eventually it will..

while the 6600 is a great phone..as mentioned earlier..its a little bulky..and very honestly not much to look at..but having said that..its still a powerful phone and one of the best around.

priorotize man!..if 10k is a big deal wait for the 7610 price to drop..the 6600 is still a good buy..u can get loads of software to cuztomise it and make it look cool. the 7610 lacks IR..if that's an issue i'd recomend the 6600..but all said and done the 7610 wins over the 6600..purely in terms of its "WOW" factor.

personally..i wanted to buy a 6600,, but then, it somehow didn't appeal to me and i waited for the 7610..the mem card is not an issue..i love it as a phone and it's mp3 playback..the cam is gr8 also..64 mb is just bout enough..i keep trnsfrn data back an forth via the data cable..all in all..i love the 7610....if u want a comparison rating.. 7610 gets 9/10 and the 6600 gets 7.5/10.

cheers

The Nokia 7610 comes in three colours: Black/Red, Black/Gold and White/Gold

Some colours aren't available in certain areas.

Catwoman uses the 7610! Awesome!

I'm in Australia, and looking for a Genuine Nokia 7610 Black/Red Cover with matching Original keypad. Can someone help me?
I'm tired of White/Gold now. Black/Red is so stylish and much more contrasting ...

Well not exactly 3 color inboxes...

Asia-Pacific area produces and sells the 7610 in three inbox colors: Silver-Grey, Black-Red, and Black-Gold (Asian Version)

While Europe, Africa, and Middle-East sells the 7610 in two inboxes excluding the Black-Gold color, that color is meant to be for the Asia-Picific market only.

Made me confused, you said asia-pacific only sells Silver-Grey, Black-Red and Black-Gold. Later you said black-gold colour is meant to be for the Asia-Pacific market only.

I checked the shops in my area and none of them are selling the 7610 style packs yet.

Wyatt:

You won't find black-gold 7610 in Europe africa and middle east .. to be specific .. it's not a finnish made, it's an asian made "Made by Nokia" .. so you'll only find that third color inbox in Asia-Pecific countries only.

All of the 7610 I saw in Bali when I was on holiday are made by Nokia. They are; Black Red, Black Gold, Silver Grey.
In my opinion the Silver Grey is the best looking, followed by Black Gold. I dont like the Black Red.
Most shops I go to (by the way there was this road with at least 50 phone shops there on the street) stocked only the black red (must be the most popular color?). Silver Grey is very rare. I only found it in 3 shops on display.

On the other hand, here in Australia I saw only the Silver Grey so far. Again they are also made by Nokia.

This happens in all profiles by the way, even in the new profile i've created. I have checked the wav file in My Gallery and its working listening from there. PLs advise on what shoud i do. Thanks!

mmm..firstly chk if u've actually selected a ringtone or music clip.. as in it should show that message alert tone is "message.mid" or whatever file u select..secondly if u'r wave file is encoded in a low bit rate it wont play..i encoded some for my phone and i had to do it all over again...low is something like 86k and below..i now encode everything in 128k..just to be safe.

this should solve it if it's happening only with the wav files..but if its happenin with the defauld midi files, then i have no idea what's wrong.

hope this helps
