I was quite looking forward to this phone as i have always like the novel design of the previous 5100 and 5210. The Phone had come into my office and i was getting quite excited but i was greeted by a handset that seemed very cheap. The casing was not all rubber like before but more like hard plastic with the occasional rubber part. This kind of put me off but was not a great issue.
The 5140 comes with a rather funky fm headset for the radio and a new battery with improved battery life.
I then proceeded to open the shell.......
One hour later i had managed to get in. Dont get me wrong ive taken many a case off a phone and the 5100 was as easy as anything else. But the 5140 is something different the stiff release buttons require huge amounts of pressure whilst with other hand you need to slide of the case.
I turned on the handset to be greated with the usual 40 series ui. Looks slightly different with the introduction of new icons, which was a refreshing change.
the usual settings all the way through the ui until i got to the push to talk option which has been introduced to the 5140. I think push to talk will be great but was unable to use it as it hasnt really taken off by the networks in the uk.
The 4mm vga camera was something i was looking forward to but unfortunately it did not meet up to my expectations and i would compare it to the 6610i. The picture was very grainy and pixelated when viewing but after the image was taken it would clear up slightly. To be honest im very biased as i have a 7610 which i used to take the pic's. The 5140 also features video capture of 11 secs but can be changed to 4 mins like the 7600. The rf was perfect and the 4 way key pad works fine. Its a good size and have found the battery life to be comparable to the 6100 so i was very impressed. After a few days of use i warmed to the 5140 due to its ease of use although its nothing that out of the ordinary its a well built and structured handset which im sure will be popular amongst many age ranges. Another thing is the price which very low at £187 fantastic for a vga camera phone.
A great back up phone in my eyes
