Mobileburn is my best mobile site but can be a bit boring on the main site when there are no new news!

True.
But you know what I think should be done, aesthetically?
I think that a different font should be chosen (maybe Trebuchet or Century Gothic)
And different font colors! Something that coordinates better with yellow (not maroon, or navy blue! [they're too dark]).
Just my 2 cents! :D

I'm considering another overhaul the design, but will probably wait until September to start messing with it since I am going to be in Europe so much this summer.

i agree howard is huge they have too many members cant be compared with mobile burn in terms of members!!! the max ever online on mobileburn is 111 users but on howard its something like 6000..
i would like to ask michael one question?? did you copy the complete format from howard its so similar??? my question may be stupid!! i dont have a good idea of creating web pages let alone forums!!! i know its hard work!!
I guess after about 3 or 4 years mobileburn will have more members registered than howard!!! I AM A BIG FAN OF MICHAEL!!! HIS REVIEWS ARE TRULY GREAT!!! i read 7610 review 3 times!! gosh someone was complaining its too long!!!
Wonder however if michael would reply to our questions if there are many users registered?

howardforums is a brilliant site, i mean at any one time theres over 4000 members online. its not that complicated, i get done quickly, u either go in to browse or search. i go to motorola section, than sharp, than others, than series60, than smartphone. then im done. its really kool to read up on other ppls info as alot of them are full fledged reviewers like michael, especially bengalboy(mark morrow) he is the top notch shizzen, hes got like every phone we dream off months before we can dream of getting it, hes got 2 mpxs!!!!! like the mpx300s!!! omfg, 1300US a piece might i add, and its beaten hofos record of most hit threads, its recieved well oer 250 000 hits already..just that thread alone.. so u learn alot from there ive learned more than than here cause those get new phones daily and always put up super detailed reviews. as long as u search for an answer to yer question before posting it theyll treat u nicely, just dont ask a repeated question..they get mad...

Err, can anyone tell me the website for howardforums? I wanna take a look at that 2mp camera. :D
Michael
07-08-2004, 09:38 AM
Howard and I run the same software, that is why our forums look alike, as do a thousand other sites out there.
As to how I will get to the questions asked of me, that is already a problem. Eventually I will open a moderated section where people can post questions for me and Sid, because that will be the only way to ensure that we see them.
I do not read every message on this site. I read maybe a quarter of them, based on the title. Threads with generic titles like "need help" and "which phone" are usually ignored.
Toocool
07-08-2004, 12:19 PM
ok ok still i think mobileburn is the best!! hell with the no of hits i dont care about how many people have viewed a certain thread!! heck why should you be bothered about how many users are online right now??? does it matter to you?
Mobile burn is hassle free!! Its not confusing!! I have searched a lot on google for reviews and have read lot of them! I have read about 40 to 45 Nokia 7610 reviews bloody one page reviews and errors in some pages!! One page says review of 7610 (on the page itself) and when i read it is the review of 6230 they are talking about VGA cam and Radio!! Hah its a joke everywhere else..
Please.. enough is enough the conclusion is the subject of the thread!!!
MOBILE BURN AND MICHAEL ARE THE BEST!!! (Even siddarth)

We are working on getting some mods. Hopefully we will have 2 by the end of this week. I'll appoint more forum leaders as the forums grow larger. Just because I'm not posting doesn't mean I'm not watching ;)

We control the content that goes up on the site VERY strongly because people expect our content to be amongst the best on the net. Hec, I've been writing for MB for a year now and Michael still finds problems with most of my articles. Generally, I don't post articles straight to the website, but get Michael to "approve" them first. I don't mind though, because it means that hopefully I can learn from it and improve my next article.
If we are gettting people with little or no professional experience in writing to submit articles (which is fine BTW), then surely you would not expect us to post their articles straight to our website? What if they have poor spelling/grammar or are simply ripped off from another source?
With the forum admins, they will get approval to begin with only to delete individual posts or move threads. We are not going to give them the ability to ban/delete people or delete entire threads.

fair enough. For gods sakes do me one favour and pick someone like yourself man. Not someone whos going to let the power get to his head. or her head. I guess whatever the case Michaels still the big cheese around here. Dont know why but things on this site are slow now. No phone reviews, not even headset reviews even though i never read them. Its so boring now. Now he wont even let me do reviews cause of that lil hiccup with viewing sources. And ive written like 3 already just waiting in my hard drive. Sid, got anything up your sleeve?
I'm finishing up a 7600 review. We have been reviewing non-phone products lately since it's generally so hard to get phones. Expect to see some of them soon.

What I like about mobileburn forums / things I'd like different
You know, there is definitely more of a "community" feel here compared to hofo.
I do like that the phone discussion tends to be a bit more real here - generally not too many fanboy rants...
Super-condensed version of annoying fanboy flamewar:
"Sony is the best!"
"No, Nokia is!"
"You suck!"
"No, you suck!"
(It can be funny watching people go off on each other like this, but it's also kind of sad...it seems like these people would pound the crap out of each other if they were face to face - but over a phone brand??? I mean, even if I prefer one brand over another, I still want to hear what the other person has to say, if they have a point...but when some fanboys (or girls, I guess) are so blindly tying themselves to one idea/brand (and telling you how you should too), they rarely have anything worth paying attention to. But people are free to their opinions, right?)
Sometimes, you get the impression that people on other sites are just people that get off showing their latest toy and how they are better than other people since they could blow $1000 on a phone on a whim :) Guess I am just jealous of them...
(Guess I'm a hypocrite - I hate people bragging but I LOVE seeing sneak peaks of new gadgets...)
Michael and Sid get directly involved with the forums from time to time also makes it pretty cool - it's really nice that you can directly and fairly easily interact with such knowledgeable people.
The discussions here are ususally pretty good too...and people seem to really be making an effort to be helpful and polite to one another, which is great - one of the reasons why I like to come back here...
(one minor note that doesn't count against the overall reputation of the site, but lately there have been many many pointless posts...but I guess it's summer vacation for those lucky enough and it's fun to chat online...then again, if you want to chat, isn't that what MSN, Yahoo, or ICQ is for? What does having the highest post count prove anyway?)
Lastly, people seem to put up with (or merely mercifully ignore) my rants/ravings/longwinded posts. Nice :) Can't complain about that!
Hofo is okay too...very diverse group of people on there, and there are a lot of active areas to post/search, depending on what suits your fancy.
manav
07-20-2004, 01:43 AM
Well you are right about us posting like maniacs in the summer vacations, and we got quite a few warnings over that. But you should have noticed that now things have changed. Now that I'm allowed to go out. I hardly find time to post. This is our small family over here and I wouldn't let go for anything. And its just too much fun annoying you by ignoring your rants ;) and calling C'Dover CD-COVER and having fun looking at mundets having a fight with a chick (sev??).

07-21-2004, 01:51 AM

manav
07-21-2004, 01:59 AM

Yes, I know how this feels. I'm EIC of a PDA website (as you see in my sig :p), and the articles that I have my staff write MUST be of top-rank and free of all errors. On my site, we actually just have our new staff's articles get approved, and as time goes on and we see that they have improved, we allow them to post straight to the front-page.
On the other site that I administer, we allow let members post some news, but we don't allow them to post straight to the homepage. We do it like how MB does it, forum admin and the EIC must approve the article, and if it is not approved, then we won't be seeing that article on the front page. That is the only way that I could see fit to be doing this "member-submission" thing. We have to check that they aren't plagerizing, and if they do take something off a site (like a sentence or two), they either need to use the [ QUOTE ] tag or at least state the source that the bottom of the article.
Be thankful you guys that at least you have some sort of ability to post articles...and that you get money for it if you do post :p.
