I just got a reply from him and he said a few things which makes me wonder whether the English 7610 is very significantly different to the Chinese models.

For one, his SMS shows First name and then Surname. I figured this must be because in Chinese, usually surname/family name comes first so I'll leave it at that.

... but some of the other things such as the volume stepping don't exist in his 7610, and the ability to send midi files is also there...

At the moment I'm considering how valuable I see the Chinese features, and whether or not a reflash would help since the volume step which whilst helpful/safe at first, doesn't really help me when i'm a kid who's got friends who usually 'prank' me...

On Michael's 7610:

1. Does it have a space between First name and Last name?
2. In contacts, can you set it so that the list will be in alphabetical order by First name?
3. Does he have LifeBlog? He didn't mention it in his review ...

Over and out :D

I think it does have space. The reason our ones don't have space is because Chinese names usually comprise of three characters, one for the surname/family name and two for the individual name. When the name is written, surname is written first, then the individual name, without any spaces.

1. Yes
2. It already is in order by first name
3. Yes, but I never looked at it. Just looks like a list of SMS messages.

Michael:

Try out playing any of the .amr files that were included in the RS-MMC, you'll find that every amr file pauses every 6 secs or so untill the end of the playback. This is a common problem with the Euro (made in finland) version at least :(

Ahh. I remember now. That happenned on my ex-Asian-7610 too. Those AMR were from the "Nokia 7610 Movie Director Music Library
"

Yea ... the AMR's weren't smooth when being played

Why don't you use the Quicktime player? It works!

I use the Philips Platform 4 player, and they work fine there, too.

To Michael:

Did your 7610 come with a Felt Pouch or a Wrist Strap?

To Everyone Else:

If your 7610 came with a Wrist Strap, are you using it?
If so, has it damaged your phone? If not ... how are you using it?

No, it didn't come with a pouch, but then again, it didn't come with a manual, either.

I didn't use the strap at all. I'm not into that kinda thing. I use my pockets.

have to agree with michael there. i'm not into straps, and the 7610 fits into pockets very nicely.

Came with strap, I'm using it, and it scratched my screen and the back of the case.
