Symbian 7.0 (Nokia 7610)

Hey folks,
could anybody post the exact advantages of the new Series 60 version, based on Symbian 7.0 (Nokia 6600, 7610) in comparrison to the older one, used by Sendo X and Siemens SX1.

It is mostly a series of tweaks and such, but they add up to a UI that I like much better.

And no, I'm not gonna list out everything. I couldn't even if I felt like bothering.

The only two I can list now, is that Series 60 Version 2.0 (Symbian OS7) supports MIDP 2.0 Java (incl Bluetooth in games) and theme support. Series 60 Version 1.0 (Symbian OS6) doesn't

i thought that the 6600 was the first to have the second edition of series 60, symbian 7.0...cos the 7610 review says "As I mentioned earlier, the 7610 is the first handset on the market to run Series 60 Second Edition. " Anyway, I might have misread that...I'm only half way through reading this review, so far its reassured me into buying the 7610! yay!

i'm also a bit confused.. i thought Symbian 7 Series60 was just.. that. I heard that series60 v2 is the new batch which was coming out later this year; but then maybe its including 7610 as 7610 has got all those presence and telco apps? *shrugs* who knows?~

I strongly believe that "they" (whoever they are) are wrong

You'll see that 3650, 7650 and N-Gage are S60 V1
You'll see that 6600, 7610, 6630 and 6260 are S60 V2

All the S60 Version 2 have MIDP 2 Java. Doesn't that ring a bell?

In other words:

Series 60 Version 1.0 = Symbian OS6
Series 60 Version 2.0 = Symbian OS7

Hope that clarifies a few things ...

yeah thats what i thought too. I "think" you get S60 version one and two and then you get S60 Second Edition. I dont know just a thought

Nokia has been a bit loose with the naming convention. When the 6630 and 6260 were released the other week, there was also a press release touting the "new" Series 60 Second Edition.

Not version 2.0.

There are differences between the 6600/6620 and the 7610/6630/6260 other than the base OS. The support for the Bluetooth HID profile is one change. There are others.

So until I can get Nokia to clarify, I have changed the wording int he review a little bit.
