So, the Chinese are now the third country to launch a man into space.

The mission, according to Yahoo, has been 11 years in the making. It's estimated to have cost China $1 billion, nothing to sneeze at when your average Chinaman earns $700 a year.

The astronaut, Yang Liwei, has been training for five years.

So much time, effort and a very large amount of money...why did they only send him up for 21 hours then? :-)

Y'would have thought for that amount of money they would have kept him up there a bit longer....

Maybe he was hungry.

Whenever I eat Chinese food here, I'm hungry again within a couple of hours.

It might just be a case of "look at us, this is what we are capable of".

Certainly an interesting development though. Does this mean the that US Space Program will be given more priority?

Don't know about that but I'm guessing Japan will be spending a little more.

There's been a lot of talk about this proving China is now a major world player, but I think what it really shows is what a third world country can achieve when it takes responsibility for it's own destiny and of course it's population growth!
