need a Mpeg4 converter

i just got my mpeg4 20gb player but most of my videos are avi and mpg and divx, need to convert.cant find a gd one..anyone recommend any freeware trial versions or watever?..thanks a bunch..

Hi - this is one of those topic that everyone has their own way etc. , I just like to think I use the methods that give me the best quality is all.

The best site, bar none, IMO is www.doom9.org - click the guides link on the left and choose a conversion method. This has got guides for just about all you need to know about converting AVI -> whatever format you need & it hosts all it's software (so it's always there always latest).

As well as guides on just about any aspect of video conversion, editing etc. that are aimed at achieving the highest quality possible - goldmine site with great forum. All applications they use are free (legally) - yes, free & giving the highest possible quality although many guides involve methods that aren't "one-click" solutions if that what you're after - though some are ;).
