Hello Philippine users!
Have you ever tried browsing the web with your Globe phone?
Were you only able to open a few limited sites?
WHY?!?!
I wish that Globe would let us browse the full web.
Does anyone know how to do that?

Sorry, don't know how to browse the web with Globe. I've heard that for pda's, you can use a program called OPERA (I sure hope I'm right) to view websites. I honestly don't know if you can install this in a p800. I do know that not all websites are optimized to be viewed in pda format.
Overall, Globe seems to charge more but there service is a lot easier to deal with than Addict mobile or Sun. Smart is ok.

I also thought of switching to Smart/Addict Mobile (or even Sun - but WAP is still in testing stages) but it would be real hassle to tell everyone of my new number.
Besides, I'm still hoping that for being a "loyal" Globe subscriber of 3 1/2 years, they'd give me a free phone. But I fortunately, I called their hotline and the operator said that it would have to depend on my bill (meaning, the amount) and not how long I've been a subscriber. Can you believe that? I mean, isn't it being "loyal" means the duration? Geez!!
Well until now, Globe is still limiting the wap sites that we can visit. Can't believe they've reaping millions of pesos for the past years and they're still ripping us of value added services.

well, i honestly think that all the local TelCos are all the same when it comes to being profit-centric... can't honestly blame them, but wouldn't it be great if they did something more for their poor loyal consumers?
3ple4: i'm surprised; they gave my dad a 6610 for being loyal to them, and his bill doesn't usually run that high... maybe they're just screwing with you or something. how long have you been a globe subscriber ba?
i've had my fair share of being screwed over by a TelCo, which is why i REFUSE to have anything but prepaid. more expensive in the long run, but at least i don't run the risk of getting charged for usage that isn't real!!!

3 1/2 years na!!! My bill is usually between P500-P1,000 (Plan 250, he he!!). I guess it's not good enough.
My friend's dad is also under Plan 250 and has been with Globe since their introduction (1995 yata!) and they also haven't given him any "free" phone.

that's pretty strange...
what they did before was offer my dad free phones, or discounted prices for the higher models. strange that you've been with them for so long and they haven't given you a loyalty thingie

I made the mistake of frequenting too often a satellite branch of Globe. Apparently, one the employees got annoyed since I'm not a postpaid user and have never gotten a phone during the 20 times I've visited their shop.
I frequent the shop since I'm a globe prepaid subscriber, I love looking at new mobile phones and because the place is near my place of work. I've only talked to one of their reps once, but apparently my presence has become a bit too much for them.
I've always thought globe had the best customer service, sadly my mind has changed. It just never occured to me that they'd actually frown upon window shopping. One of their male reps told another rep (they where a stones throw away from me) to just ignore me since I frequent the place and never bother to get anything. Good thing the female rep nudged the male rep, signalling him to stop since they were within earshot of me.
I've learned my lesson (I guess I'm partly to blame) , I will never ever go back to any globe office again.

OK...here's the latest report.
If you have a Series 60 phone (in my case- 7610)... Get Opera on it... Then you will be able to browse the full internet! For FREE! :) If you use the normal phone browser it will not work...you'll still be limited to a few WAP sites.

Unfortunately the T630 is not a series 60 phones so doesn't support Opera browser. Symbian UIQ also support it, but that's it. It sucks, oh well, perhaps now this could be a reason to get a new phone? :).

hey guys!
just incase you're still unaware of this, opera days on Globe was over since April. I had only about two months of surfing the web with Opera when Globe cut their internet connection (got my 6600 last Feb.). I had switched to Smart since then but they're charging internet pretty high... but i dont mind for as long as i can surf the web when i want to... Yup yup! If one is using a Philippine mobile operator, forget the 6230, s700, k700, etc... Coz you can only text and call... Only in Globe where you encounter blocked wap sites.
Speaking of wap site, Globe will starting charging 0.15 cents/kb for wap usage starting August 19, 2004. Still cheaper than Smart's 0.25 cents/kb but there will be still blocked sites (that's why the cheaper rate :D) and I hope Sony Ericsson's wap site will be accessible.

So that you can only visit the myglobe wap site and download their pics and tones. Man, even their wallpapers are low resolution. Is this because their wallpapers are meant only for 4K color screens?
kyoots
08-24-2004, 08:37 PM
yup...maybe majority of globe handyphone users actually use phones with 4k screens... as a network provider, their sites should be able to provide downloads for high-end phones.

08-24-2004, 09:42 PM
before globe restricted thei sites, i found a wapsite with LOTS of downloadable ringtones... a lot of my tones was from there, and the good thing abt it, was it was ALL FREE!.
i guess we can think of what GLOBE and others is that they want to "get the cash"...they wont be able to earn a lot of people will not visit and use their sites..so wat better way to do that then restrict everything else except for their own sites.... they're forcing their "product" to the users....

08-26-2004, 07:04 AM
globe offers gprs browsing services not as a premium service but somewhat like a value-added service so you can't complain bout their service coz it's free (remember the time when nobody knew bout txt messaging, you could txt for free but you can't complain when your txt message didnt reach the recipient...). i think the same goes for gprs.
now that they've opened some sites, you can already complain if you can't access these sites (yahoo, sureseats, bpi, etc...) and if you were incorrectly-charged... its a pity we still can't access all the other sites...

I thing's it's Lucio Tan (PAL, Allied Bank, La Tondena, etc...) and Henry Sy (SM malls, Baco De Oro) who are the richest in the country and they're not in the telecom business.
The Ayala family are more low profile, you don't see them around often on tv and are not much involved in controversies. They're so low profile that their wap services are also low profile :D

Infotext is nothing more than mobile spam in my opinion. They've sent me dozens of spam messages utilizing a multitude of numbers. I don't even reply "no" anymore as I strongly suspect they'll charge whenever I reply, whatever I reply.
It's actually a brilliant way of making money, spamming mobile subscribers with supposedly free ads that end in the susbcriber being charged for the ads and the advertisers paying for the ads to be sent. Too bad it has to be at the inconvenience of mobile subscribers.
I heard the FCC has banned mobile spam. How I wish they had influence over the mobile networks of the Philippines.

With Sun's new strategy, I hope Globe matches it with a similar offer. I don't expect them to also provide unlimited texts as it would only clog their network but at least increase the different plans' free text allocation. 135 free texts in my Plan 250 certainly is not enough, he he! Globe is reaping millions every year and their stock price has skyrocketted from 5 years ago and they give their subscribers with teeny weeny sms allocations. Good grief!!

Hey guys, I heard from a reliable source that Globe is selling mobile phones at discounted price to it's loyal subscribers. And by "loyal", I'm not sure how long you're supposed to have been with them. Just go to any Globe business center (walk-in lang). For example, a P21,000 (retail price with warranty not Greenhills price) Nokia 6230 only costs about P18,000 :) No catch, you don't get tied up for 2 years or anything like that.

Extracted from the Sun Cellular forum: Globe shouldn't have ditched the free GPRS. That was one of the strong points why many stayed. But now, I don't know how it will go for them since they charge 0.25Php per kb (which is @#$%ng overpriced esp in the world of graphics, pixs and mms nowadays!)
I don't mind paying for, I believe it's P0.15/kb, my GPRS. Before, when it was free, many sites were blocked so it was useless. Now that they've opened up all the wap sites, I can surf all I can (for a price) :)

i refuse to believe that! philippines is not that too far behind, saudi arabia doesnt even have MMS! and EDGE is not even that difficult to implement since most of the infrastructure should be compatible for EDGE upgrade, the problem is that globe and smart are trying to milk out as much profit as they can from their existing infrastructure without giving better service and better tech... this is where the govt agencies should know how to stump their feet... upgrade to better and more up-to-date technology or your license get cancelled, simple as that...

But I think the problem is if Globe (or Smart) upgrade their technology, the government will also milk them out of their money. Coz I think EDGE or any other future tech, will be classified as VAS (Value-added service) meaning they get taxed more or something like that. Isn't it, only recently in the papers that the NTC classified sms as VAS and I think Globe didn't like this decision.

i dont like the decision as well... but again, i go back to my earlier belief that SMS is just a by-product of GSM, so it should not be considered as value-added service or added service, in fact we have to assert that it should be free! as it was free before!

yes, it'll surely work but you have to apply for roaming.
sending text message to you will be charged normally but when you reply
them you'll going to shell off about P50 per message, so you better reply them
using your US provider since it'll be cheaper i guess..
reloading will be just like the way you did back home. just ask
your relatives to send you regular prepaid credits via text (call card number and PIN)

Why would you wanna keep your number? Because it's less of a hassle and you don't have to tell everyone and their mother your new number...???

What I meant was, why would want to switch from plan to prepaid? If one is worried about his/her credit limit then just call Globe to increase the limit.

He he he! Ok, you gotta point there :)
I've a friend who coverted his plan to prepaid and I think he had to use that plan for at least 24 hours.
Globe has a new promo called BILL REBATE. If a subscriber pays at least P1,500 or P1,800 per month for the last 2 years (I think), he/she is eligible to have a P5,000 rebate on the next year. But I think this is only applicable to subscribers who bought phone with the plan and is tied with Globe for 2 years. So, on the 3rd year, you get the rebate of P416.67 per month. There's also a P10,000 rebate for higher usage. This is only good til April 18, 2005.
