Sid this is a request for information from you and any other Australians on your experience with the T610. Is the reception and transmission as good as my current phones in Australia? There is much controversy about this in the States and in Europe, but what about here?

Thanks

Sid had told me that he found it to be ok. But there is no difference between the GSM in Europe and that in Oz, so it just means that the signal is strong in Sydney.

If you are in a metropolitan area the RF performance is probably not an issue.

"The problems with reception is due to the fact he only had the 1900 band available to him in America."

Quoted from another forum...

In my experience there hasn't been any problems with the T610 reception locally.

I personally haven't had any problems with it. The only time I have been getting SOS calls is in underground tunnels (where it is normal). For me, and many other T610 owners I have talked to, the reception is not a problem.

Well, I have used a T610 in the US on 1900 and in France on 900. In both cases it was quite a bit inferior to the T68i, which is not very good to begin with.

I used both phones side by side in weak signal areas, and I could get a signal on a T68i when I could not on a T610.

It was plainly obvious.

I've used three different handsets, too. All three in the US, one of them in France, too.

This is no anomoly.

No reception problems with the T610 here ...

Like Sid has stated, you lose reception underground/in tunnels - but that is normal with most phones anyway.

I am also considering getting the T610. I'm in Melbourne. Does anyone have any info on the reception here.

Also, I'm a bit wary because of this hissing sound I've read about and the screen unreadable in daylight.

I've read the review but does anyone from Australia know what the T610 is like if I go down tomorrow and pick one up.

Thanks

I just got a T610. I've had no problems with reception. It works fine in underground areas throughout the Sydney CBD. It also gets a great signal in my house which is somewhat of a black spot. I can use my T610 in parts of my house where my previous handsets (6210, 5510, R600) drop out.

Hi, love the site! Anyways... I'm in Melb and i've had my T610 for 4 weeks now... the reception is fine, i've had no problems with it so far.

However, where i live, the reception is quite weak (usually 3 bars) and i've noticed that if i stayed home a whole day, the battery life drops to half after being fully charged! But if i am out and about all day (near CBD, better reception), the battery life only drops a little. This is with normal usuage and has happend more than once... So is this short battery life related to the poor reception in my area??? I really can't think of any other reason...

donkey: i haven't had any hissing problems with my phone... didn't SE fix this in later models? the screen can be abit of a problem on a very sunny day, but i don't think it's a problem which will turn u away from the phone, that's my opinion :)

Cheers.

You are right. In a low reception area, the T610 uses more power to try to gain a signal, thus reducing battery life.

All things considered though, it doesnt effect battery life too much, as long as you arent in a lower reception area for extended periods. Im going to be doing some tests on the T610 on a GSM test set during this week, ill see just how bad the drain can get when we lower the RF power.

Edit: Just realised you said you LIVE in a low reception aread ... :p
