Students:
Has your phone ever been confiscated in school for it going off during classtime? And how long was it confiscated for? Any close calls?
I've been lucky, since before each class I always make sure it's on silent!

Mine went off during my Mandarin listening exam :(:(. Was only gone for 3 days. (Well not really 'only').

That's nothing compared to my school. Once, the headmaster confiscated a phone for two months! And if your phone is confiscated, you aren't allowed to take the SIM card out (this would be defeating the purpose of the confiscation).

Once, however, my phone did go off during a history class, but thankfully, with some "negotiations" with the teacher let me off the hook :P

The education boards in Asia were actually rather idiotic. phones are a means of communication, they tend to think of the bad side and then proceed to prevent it in the first place. They're all idiots. I always encourage my younger sister to bring her cellphine to school with her in case communication is needed. Those stupid pigs could just put a drawer in front of the class and ask all students to put in their phones there when having classes. They give a stupid explanation of saying students phones might get stolen andmight create possible unneccesary problems! idiots, there are alot of things ready to get stolen in school than phones. They're all idiots; i hope some principal or teachers saw my posts. Idiots ~!

In my school it is allowed to use the phone durng classes as long as you use headset, and if you don't disturb the rest of students. One thing I hate, though, is that you can't use any ear-bugs, SMSing, PDA, or that kinda thing during exams. and while there is no taking away phones from students, some techer's phone was missing. Later they discovered that one of the students stole it. He/She has been kicked out of school.

Although Serbia and Montenegro is a poor country(Yugoslavia), people are crazy for phones. 7,2 milion people, and 4,1 milion mobile subscribers. Now that is mobile nation, especially if we count that people change their phones often, and that averge earnings are about 200 EURO(but a lot of other things are cheaper, and a lot of people have two jobs), but any way that is realy a lot of people using cellphones.

To commedecargons,

I agree with you wholeheartedly.........i really think some of the ADMIN staff in this part of the world need to get a life and look around.........so blinkered, insular and repressive......"this know it all attitude".........

Hope some sense creeps into them in the near future......
the damn cheek to think that they own the airwaves !!!!!!!!!

Sooner they realise that the phones are not luxuries but an essential necessity the better........COMMUNICATION DEVICE..........COMMUNICATION DEVICE...............

Cheers,

:)mie

He he, here we used to use the phones, if the teachers see us then we were in for trouble. But we all were a very united class so we warned the teacher. Once our principal took a cell of one of my friends and we all removed air from the tyres of his car! and yeah PRINCIPALS and TEACHERS SUCK! I went for the interview to my *NEW* collage recently they said the phones are not allowed. LARDA**ES!!

Wow, a lot of you guys get off easy with your school's cellphone policy!
At my school they're really strict. Lower and Middle Schoolers aren't allowed to bring cellphones to school, and Upper Schoolers are only allowed to use cellphones during break.

cdover

:S. My school is really strict with most things. If you aren't wearing proper black leather shoes then you have to take it off and where flip-flops that they give you. And if you're wearing jewellry (can't spell), nail polish, make-up, wrong uniform (colour is a bit off) then you get told off infront of everyone in the whole Senior School! Ak...oh well. They also have random pocket checks, locker checks, diary checks, drug tests etc etc. Talk about scary...eheh. But all in all it's pretty cool

The only thing we have here are random drug tests.

My school has some strict rules, but they're not really strongly enforced.
If you have a "radical hairstyle" they'll make you change it/cut it, as soon as possible.
Last year they introduced these things called detention cards, so for every offense you make, you get it signed. If you get 3 signatures or so, you get after school detention it think. But the first signature is just a verbal warning.

Same story here in South Africa.

At my school if your phone is seen it gets taken for two months! And even with a lawyer you wont get it back!

Some schools though, take it for a year. Now that is not cool.

In our school, we have strict rules about mobiles. If you're caught with one on or even if its off in ur pocket in an exam, u automatically fail that official exam and go under investigation and could fail all of ur exams no matter how important or life changing. Its pretty extreme but works :P

In my school, all electronics are banned in the school. But, the irony is that when there was a mass spotcheck of bags and students in the school, the school uncovered hundreds of handphones and mp3 players. The school, not wanting to keep the really high amount of electronics in school, afraid that there would be a backlash, gave back the electronics. Talk about an eye-opener!

Since then, more students have been bringing handphones to school, including me! :D

shaheen

singpaores just too strict, like they wont get over the point that if u dont take it out its not a problem, if u have it in yer bag and hiding it away theyll still want it..like wtf, doesnt make any sense! to them, out of site out of mind isnt valid...ive lived in singapore my whole life and now im in melbourne which is so much better, i can bring my mp3 player into class and listen to it when the teacher stops teaching..same for uni in fact...

i feel sorry for you guys!

in sweden u can bring whatever u like to schools (well, not weapons and drugs and stuff like that). we can use pdas (well i could only do that because of the fact that used it as a calculator and mp3 player) and mp3-players during exams. using phone during lessons depend on the teacher, some are very strict, while others don't care. if your phone is on during exams and u get caught it's seen as cheating, but u can't confiscate a phone and keep it for like two months: it's illegal! we can wear whatever we want, look like we want. it's very free

i mean who needs to remember bout homework?..not like i do it even if i write it down.....singapores too strict true but theres 2 kinds of students, 1 who listen to the rules, worried bout taking risks and getting in trouble and stay within the rules, and then theres the ones who go round them, like me who did watever it takes to breakem..of course in melbourne no one cares so no point sneaking around and stuff like that....

our school was great about it all, you couldnt use it in class, if you did you were told to just put it away unless you did it like 10 times in one class then they would take it till the end of the lesson... but when it came to exams you would have to leave everything you had outside, and if you were caught with a mobile phone you exam would be cancelled, youd get a 0, and everyones around you would be too incase of cheating... which happened once, and 5 people had to resiit a whole years course because it was a final exam and they had to redo it, though luckily only took them 2 months before they could again... but help them back a year from going onto university
