Three of these highly-anticipated models from Motorola. Any comments about these phones?

Yeah, I want one of each.
Actually, I am pinning a lot of high hopes on the V600/V500 since I was not happy with the T610.
If they fail to impress there will still be the Panasonic X70 and the Nokia 6600 to fill the spot in my heart....

I have a Motorola V60i and I really like the look of the phone but the performance was not all there. I really like the look of the V600 and I have heard that this phone is going to kinck some serious ass!!!
It's good to see the second largest phone manufacturer coming out with some nice products. They should compete very well with other phones such as the SE Z600.

I think the screen looks really good on the SE Z600, but the keyboard has a very cheap look to it...

i hope they have got rid of that nasty iTAP thing?! :(
apart from that, i think they look damn cool, and would def consider a v500
Michael
08-21-2003, 07:25 AM
iTap has been getting better and better with each release. The T720 was a big step forward for iTap.
In any event, I can't remember where I heard this, but I swear I heard somewhere that Mot was releasing a phone with both iTap and T9. Don't quote me on that.
In volume, T9 costs about US$1 per phone, so it would be much more feasible to do that now that RAM sizes are increasing so.
Motorola's IDEN phones will now have T9 :)

That would be me :)
I'm pretty sure they will do that since a good friend of mine got to play around with their next gen handsets.

V500/600 look the goods for mine. Wont make any decisions on them until i have used them for a bit though (can only really tell if i like a phone after extended use).

Yeah, you really need to use a phone for a while to tell if you can live with it.
I just *really* hope it cuts it for me. I'm tired of this T68i.

It's been some time waiting for an equipment manufacturer as large as Motorola to incorporate Bluetooth interconnectivity.
They seemed pumped up about it when it was in its infancy. Now, finally, we're on the cusp of their introduction; Motorola handsets with Bluetooth!
So they put it in a model line with a color screen and camera, polyphonic ringtones, streaming video and every other feature they thought I might want.
Rumor has it that preorders are being accepted for a release date of 9/3/2003. The v600 will cost $999.99 USD.
That's the better part of the cost of a halfway decent laptop!
I've got a few questions for the reviewers especially:
The Bluetooth connectivity: Is it just for headsets? Or will I be able to see the GPRS from my iPAQ 3970 and BT equipped laptop?
The interface: Is there any compatibility issue with newer data cables? I've got a USB data cable for my TimePort P280 that I'd like to reuse for programming assistance. Motorola seems to have made some recent effort to standarize these (the cable I mentioned also interfaces nicely with their newer iDEN models i60, i90, etc).
One large...it better be worth it!

With Bluetooth I cant say for sure, but the Motorola A830 (3g phone) has full Bluetooth support, so they do know how to use it properly (unlike Nokia). I would be surprised if the V series wasn't compatible with Bluetooth headsets.
As you said, they are trying to standardise the cables. Again, it would be surprising if Motorola made a new cable for these phones.
I suspect the V600 might be considered to be a fashion phone (similar to the V70). It seems like the V500 will be the more mainstream phone since it has nearly all of the features of the V600 and should be cheaper.

Hey Sid,
Thanks for the reply. In another thread, I read the v500 won't be in the states. The v600 will be out on 9/3 {10 days}.

What did you replace it with? T68 was a great phone when first released ... not much could compare to it in my eyes.

Kangfu,
I replaced the SE T68 with a Seimens S46---while the phone is not as flashy as the SE but it works when it needs to. The little joystick on the T68 never functioned correctly. I even returned it for a new one but it never agreed with me. I think I am a flip phone type of a person any ways

Ditto. I've had my T68i for awhile now. I think many people are holding on to their T68is, either because it has been a really good phone and has served them well and/or the newest releases are not much of a progression from the T68i .
Saying that, Im slightly interested in the Z600, but the Motos have definately grabbed my attention. I should start saving since it'll cost a mint. :(

Jono,
its always like that with the new motorola phones---what is amazing is that those expensive phones fly off the shelves---it reminds me of the Panasonic gu87, that phone is still selling really well for $300

I hope Motorola will finally make a software with quick press response... That is specially important in sms (do you remember T720, when you reach a second part sms-ing, a handset become a horrible slow...)
Isn't a 6600 too width?
Is there any advantages with Panasonic newer model's software? I don't have any experience with Panasonic since 1996-7...

While the Panasonics look really good, they have a tendency to pack the phone with features, but with old features. (From what I have heard and read) It seems that Motorola and Samsung are coming out with the kool phones right now.
The Motorola V300 will be in UK shops within the next two weeks can anyobdy direct me to a review of this phone.
two days ago I found Motorola info that V600 will delay for 2-3 weeks.
Even mobile Burn have only Snapshot, not a real review. You should expect a review soon.
Take a look if you haven't already yet at http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=205
All other review I found are made by sellers...

Mike,
has the V600 started coming out in other parts of the world? Maybe they have found some flaws and they are trying to fix them before they come out in the US

V600 is not out anywhere that I am aware of.
I've heard some new rumors through my wholesale contacts that the V600 might not make it to market before Christmas....
Also that the first models might not have Bluetooth, but cost $100 less.
I have no backup on either of those from Mot, though, so treat them as the rumors they are.

In the UK they took the V600 out of the Carphone Warehouse catalog as coming soon. When I was there this summer they said it would be out soon. Someone on another forum said that the carriers (I think one was Vodafone -- can't remember) who had been testing the phone decided that the phone was not ready due to poor performance and software. That's just one guy (he might have been making it up) but it still doesn't sound too good. I don't think this thing is ever going to come out which is a pity cause it looks pretty good.
The V600 is actually included in the O2 November contract upgrade pricelist, so they certainly think it's coming - its even one of their "gold upgrade handsets"... hopefully it's coming out as it's either that or the SE Z600 for me, I think.
I wonder what problems the other provider had - lets hope the V600 isn't going to be a white elephant that quietly disappears. It's odd that the V600 has received nearly no advertising in the UK whereas the cutdown version, the V500, is on adverts a lot.

OK, maybe O2 will bring this phone out. On this thread though you can see that Orange and T-Mobile were the carriers who decided not to go with the V600 (at least 'til January or later or maybe never).

doesnt look like the v600 is gonna happen this year :-(
its starting to disappear without trace :-(
v300 is a good phone though i've got one (cant complain)
but really do need the v500 for the bluetooth :-(
v500 is due in two weeks on orange
v525 is out any time now on vodafone (keep checking your stores if you're after this phone)
z600 dummy phones have started to appear in o2 stores in nottingham, UK too.
GSMArena (http://www.gsmarena.com) seems to suggest that the only difference between the V500 and the V600 is mobile video - that and the V500 can have MP3 ringtones while the V600 cannot.
Does anyone know of any other differences? If not, I may just buy the V500 instead.
Not on Orange though...they brand their phones :-/

December is not that far away. There are not that many phones out there that are as good looking as the V600 that pack the same features. I also really like the Panasonic X70, but it has less features than the V600. I just purchased the Samsung V206 and even though I do like the phone it seems rather expensive and the build quality is not worth the price, it seems rather cheap in quality.

can u get any information to support the fact that its released there
have u actually seen it or just commercials?
the difference between v500 and v600 is that the v600 supports video playback and also comes with heptic lighting around the M logo on the phone (looks very stylist but not really worth the £150 more on top of v500 price)

Well, aren't you all just so special. Able to see the v600 in your O2 stores. It's not out in the States yet and I'm jealous of all of you. Not only is it not out yet but it isn't compatible with my service and I can't change service to AT&T (who so far is the only Stateside carrier that will offer the v600) because they don't offer coverage anywhere near where I live. I'm almost crying. Ah well, I guess my Timeport P8090 will just have to last until I can get a v600 or a v600 offshoot with T-Mobile.:(
