i am about to pul the trigger and purchase a treo 600 gsm version, the only thing holding me back is a possible last minute release from samsung. anybody hear anything on this long awaited device?

I've used one - very cool. But it was on Sprint's network, not a GSM device.

I'd probably pick the samsung just due to its folder design, but I like the Treo alot.

What was the reason for the Treo recall? I haven't read anything on that yet (too busy with this server disk failure problem).

there is not alot of info, from the TMobile rep we were working with, this seems to be a gsm only issue. ESTIMATED release date now late oct. early nov. However in reading thru the threads at treocentral the cdma versions seems to be inflicted with some hardware issues, bad speaker, inoperable radios, etc. maybe this is all normal? to me it is an indication to perhaps wait. which brought me to choice two, samsung which i read here was postponded. the tmobile thing might just be a marketing decision enforced by handspring to give sprint exclusivity. i will be interested to hear your take when you get around to it.

I've been hounding Sprint to send us one, so maybe these hardware problems are why they are dragging their feet.

Can't say I'd blame them.

There are not many to choose from.

T68i
T610
S55
8910i

New models are coming out soon, but none of them strike me as particularly compact.

Yeah, unfortunately it's only dual-band. If you're happy with a clamshell phone, then get the Z600.

i got up close to a z600 today, while i love the features, i still would be happier with something just a little thinner/smaller.

okay which is better at this point?
t610 or s55? it is time to move on.

Out of those two, I would go S55. More reliable.

But I would personally spring for the Z600 instead, and be much happier for it.

z600 is much bigger. s55 looks very portable, i will also carry a t/t 3. doesn't the s55 have an advances phonebook and pda?

Doesn't it have a what?

The contact manager is pretty normal, if that is what you are asking. And if you are hauling around a T3, I'd go for the smaller S55, too. Though be warned, if you are on T-Mobile make sure the dialup string will fit in the T3.

The combination of the stupid Siemens GPRS dialup string, the huge T-Mobile APN, and the short maximum length of the dialup string in the Pocket PC platform is what keeps me from using my S55 instead of my T68i.

i appreciate the heads up, as i mentioned in a prior post i am trading the idea of a treo 600 or p900 for 2 devices a small compact bletooth enabled phone and the t3. as for it not working , you sound pretty certain? so you have tried this before and this combo does not work? we might be back to the t610 then????
