Dear xxxxx,

Thank you for your email.

In regards to your enquiry, MP3 and AAC music files on the upcoming Nokia 7610,
will be played through the built-in loudspeaker of the phone. Unfortunately the
phone supports a mono output.

Should you have any further enquiries, or if we can be of any assistance, please
do not hesitate to contact the Nokia Careline and speak to any one of our
friendly Customer Relationship Executives on 1300 366 733 between the hours of
8am and 8pm EST, seven days a week. For online assistance, please visit 'ASK
Nokia' at our website www.nokia.com.au.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Kind regards,
Corey Q

The internal speaker is of course mono, which only makes sense because there is only one of them. Thats what I got from it anyway... to add: I dont belive there is any indication on the nokia site that states the double ear-bud headset for this supports stero output either. So there is another failed attempt at a MM phone.

Checked for myself, I was impressed buy pop-port presentation in S60 on CeBIT, so I realy thought that the sound which I was hearing is STEREO. But, nope, 7610 is MONO... And realy good one. Who cares, atleast it is bettter than output found on 6600.

I think that don't having stereo is not that bad.But i don't think is wise by a 6600 user to buy 7610 because is not something much better than 6600.Has few new good feautures but not worhty to give all that money.

I think it is better to keep 6600 and wait afew months because nokia will soon announce another few smartphones

I hope the next series 60 phone impresses.

Charlie sounds like its the phone all nokia fans have been waiting for!

Hot swapable memory card, stereo, s60 and 1.3mp cam! Hopefully a "business edition comes out" as this one looks like a combination of the 3650 and 6600 together, ie. not very attractive :)

Also note the removal of MP3 and AAC as a support format on Nokia's website:

3. Which sound formats does the Nokia 7610 phone support?
SP MIDI (decoding), RMF (decoding), AMR-NB (narrow band encoding and decoding), AMR-WB (decoding), WAV (encoding and decoding), Real Audio (decoding), MIDI (up to 48 polyphonics)

This came from their FAQ. Still I can't believe anyone was still thinking it would actually have stereo on it especially after Michael said about a month ago it wouldn't (and he'd seen it) and a lot more people confirmed this too.

Hmm... interesting, sounds like they just can't make their minds up. Well anyway, I'm going to wait til I have a device in my hands before I judge anything. If I'd listened to all the complaints about the 6230 I wouldn't have one now, and frankly for me, that phone destroys any other non-smartphone on the market. Maybe the 7610 will pleasantly surprise us, who knows...

Yeah so do i! :)

My 6600 got stolen and now i'm using a ****ty 3530 and starting to save for a 7610, regardless whether its stereo or not, i shall be getting it eventually (unless of course the S700 or X700 decides to come out at the same time)

the online tutorial specifically mentions that you could play mp3 and aac files in realone player, i think that much is true but of cos they are also playing down this capability as secondary to video and imaging.

as for stereo support, i think it's better not to harvest hopes at all, given that the earpiece included in the package is single sided.

The red stripe? The 7610 comes in two official colours:
Black and Red
White and Gold

Apparently, that seller on Ebay is selling three colours:
Black and Red
White and Gold
Black and Brown

So, guess you're looking at the Black and Brown

====================

I e-mailed Nokia Australia and asked them if 7610 has Stereo output and if it was Symbian.

1. They said the 7610 isn't Stereo
2. They said the 7610 wasn't Symbian!

I'm amazed! 7610 is obviously Symbian, it has those typical Symbian keys! Plus, it says "Series 60 Platform" on the 7610 Front page! This fake information makes me wonder whether the 7610 has Stereo or not ...

That sounds to be mind-numbingly stupid of them. I can't believe they don't even know their own phones. But I doubt it's stereo, primarily from what I've heard and also, now, this single-earpiece as well.

Guess Mono it is ...
