 :D. Er, have a few phones, in order of how long I've had them.

Siemens C35i, Nokia 6110, Nokia 3310, Nokia 6510, Nokia 2100 + Nokia 7250 (got at the same time, the 2100 came free :D), Nokia 7650, Sony Ericsson P900, Nokia 3100, Samsung X100A. So yea, that's pretty much it. And yup, 13 years of age.

Since we are on this :) I recently made a chrono of the phones I have had since 1990 or so when I started... it was funny to me because some people who read it were laughing at my "motorola 4000 bag phone" if anyone wants to read it, its linked below... kinda funny (and sad!)

Chrono of my cell phone history :) (http://killerconcepts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3069&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=chrono)

One of the department stores here had this "crazy sale" and had the 6230 going for $2580 HKD ($334 USD) on the first day. Of course there were only a few for sale, but the regular price now is around $3680 HKD ($477 USD) or so.

thnx for the info... are 6230s popular in hongkong???

Ack

Just about any new phone is popular here :) And most people I see have Nokia, Motorola, or SE.

I'm pretty sure you can get one here. I don't know why they would be sold out in Singapore.....maybe if the screen was bigger and had a better camera, then I could see it happening.

Hey. Well not officially sold out but now it's VERY hard to find one, and the price is slowly going up. :) Like what happened to the p900 in Hong Kong.

I had to wait until I was 18 to get my first phone, and then I had to beg my mother for the 40 GBP to go and get a Pay As You Go Sagem MC 920 on Vodafone Pay As You Go! It was not as if that was too long ago, either. The rest, is history, as is shown below!

All the phones have been bought with my own money, apart from the Mitsubishi M320 which was subsidised by my mother for a late Christmas present. My mother also pays my sister's contract, but does not pay either of mine! I think she considers me too much of a danger to have a direct debit going out of her account. I do like getting free new phones on contracts, however, it is a very good idea.

I too got a bicycle when I was of a young and tender age. I too ended up regretting the fact that I had ever ridden it. In 1994, at the age of 11 and at the start of the summer holidays, my mother decided to end the run of shoddy BMXs which my sister and I had been bought from a friend who lived down the road, and we both were given proper, new bikes. However, it would not be a week before something bad happened.

On the Friday, my sister and I proudly rode our bikes out of the shop, and stowed them in the garage. On the Monday evening, I was with my sister and a friend on the quiet suburban street outside my friend's house when I decided it would be a great idea to try to get the bike onto the pavement. I ended up going head-first into a lamp post, blacked out, and broke my arm so badly I was in plaster for six weeks. If I had not been wearing a helmet I would have died. I would have preferred getting a mobile phone when I was that age, to be honest, as they were about the same price as a new bike in those days! I have ridden bikes since, but only under protest. Phones, however, do not have that kind of hidden power.

Really sorry to hear that, after my accident last month. Even I was told to keep a plaster for 6 Weeks but I removed it after 4. Now-a-days I am really carefull. Because life is indeed a gift.

I am sorry to hear about your cycling accident as well, it looks like you enjoyed the consequences as much as I did! It is ten years ago this month that it happened to me, and I think that most people have forgotten about it, apart from in Germany where everyone seems to be trying to force me to get a bike. It might have been a little extreme to dispense with riding bikes altogether, but at least the risk of that is eliminated! I much prefer my car, but then I would. One thing I would not recommend is cycling and talking on a mobile phone at the same time, I have seen some people doing it (or texting and riding at the same time, I have no idea how anyone can do that), it looks to be even more dangerous than talking on the phone whilst driving.

Get well soon Manav,

Keep your fingers moving and should get to a PHYSIO if you have mobility problems in any of your joints esp elbow and wrist.

Cheers,
:)mie

Well, I went to the physio he said that its all fine and I should avoid stress. I remember not so long ago. I did use to text while riding. And I even used to talk on the bike. That was really stupid of me and once I even dropped my 3200 while riding. It went from 1 ~ 100000 Pieces but when I put it back together it worked fine. I guess thats why I loved that phone.

Yikes...not a good idea.
In some states, like CA, it's illegal to use your phone while driving

oeck
07-04-2004, 06:30 PM
Yeh its illegal here in the UK too but not on handsfree? been pulled over a couple of times for it...

mundets
07-05-2004, 02:14 AM
i think you do need a handsfree...

josephlloyd
07-05-2004, 08:04 AM
The best thing is to get a Bluetooth headset and a compatible phone, so there is no fiddling around with wires whilst driving. I also find that phones with excellent speakerphones (such as my Sagem MYX-6) can be perfectly adequate substitutes for a handsfree kit, as long as you can remember which button to press when it rings to get it onto speakerphone without looking, and it is on the passenger seat. Rooting around in the glovebox for a phone would not be a good idea! Fortunately, on Sagems all that it is necessary to do is to press the 'send/answer' button twice, and it automatically both answers the phone and puts it onto speakerphone mode. Very logical and safe. It is a bit of a pain that none of their handsets come with Bluetooth, but with such a good speakerphone (it sounds like the person is sitting next to me and talking when I have the phone on the passenger seat, and my voice does not need to be raised at all), it may not be necessary. Anything which is more fiddly (Nokia, Siemens and Mitsubishi have much more labour-intensive ways of putting the phone onto speakerphone) would not be a good idea whilst trying to overtake, change gear or go round a sharp bend. Using a phone normally whilst driving should probably not be considered.

Life is more important, if you ever get a call just pull over and answer it. If you have a car-attachment/speaker that would be best. I like using the stereo handsfree then the bluetooth or anything else!

mundets
07-09-2004, 08:00 AM
No duh, life is more important than everything!
I would just let the phone ring if I didn't have a handsfree.

wahhahha, the coolest thing to do here is wear a big black jacket and put yer 6230 inside yer breast pocket and let it play a mp3 song loudly, and just walk around the city.. people start looking around for a car or something!..whahaahha best is when u lift yer hand up and the music is directed through yer sleeve..its so cool!..the moto e398 would be a better choice to do this cause its got surround sound stereo speakers..(dont ask me, thats what the specs say)
