Well, I've got a Z600 now. Hope to have the review up this weekend.

Got it from ACS (they supply a lot of the early release phones I review).

it's priced at 689 USD. A bit high from its retail. But there's a premium paid to have it first one on the block. Looking forward to the review since then I will know if I should take the plunge and if my wallet should take a hit.. :)

Is the camera better then the T610's?

Inital look suggests it is exactly the same as the T610.

RF reception does seem to be much improved, though.

The screen is really nice.

So that pretty much deals with my T610 complaints right there. I like the folder design, too, and am willing to take on the added weight in order to get it.

What are the colours of the extra set of cover that comes with the z600.

I know this is probably a silly question and something I should wait to read about in your upcoming review, but I was curious; Is the handset as big the pictures would lead you to believe? Everyone I have shown this phone to says that it's too big. I don't believe that but then again, the whole micro phone revolution thing I could do without.

It isn't as long as a T68i, but it is quite a bit thicker.

I certainly would like it to be thinner (it is thicker than a T720, for example), but I'll take the extra volume and weight to get a folder design. Plus the size makes it easier to hold and the keypad is nice and roomy.

I hate having to unlock the keypad before I use the phone. I also hate having the phone call an ex-girlfriend or something while in my pocket because the keypad was unlocked and something got pressed for too long - so I have to use the lock.

Anyway, Sean requested a handheld shot, so here it is.

I got the ugly set.

It came with a purple/blue color and the striped covers. Both are pretty ugly.

I'd prefer the ket with the black and silver covers or something. Or even the red one.

SE have wasted the entire front cover - rather than putting a big screen in the middle or something similar (like most Samsungs) they have instead (as far as I can remember) they left it blank with a tiny screen on the front.

D'oh.

Let me tell you all about something important.
Everyone talks about how cell phones are Bigg and Huge and have their antennas sticking out. well heres the deal
I was in Japan this summer and i saw their Advanced cell phones but to my surprise they where HUUUUUUUGE. MY GOD, my T610 was like a little dwarf compared to their phones. they thaught my phone was the wors cause it was so small. and cool enough most of their cell phones had those antennas you could pull out like from the 80s. i liked that hehe.
So the thing is that they dont want their phones to be Tiny Tiny Tiny so they dissapear in their hands. i actually feel the same way. they have to be big so you can feel them and hold them comfortably in your hand.

so be more openminded about that ok=)

BTW im gonna change my T610 to Z600

I wonder how many other people will also change their T610's for Z600's...

Not me. I want to be able to see the time easily with the external display, and see the name of a caller.

Picture caller ID is inane. It serves no purpose. Large color external displays eat power and can't usually be read at all unless they are being lit.

The Z600 and Z200 displays are the first ones I consider sensible in a long time. Easy to read, low power consumption.

Michael -

First, thanks for your great work. I just had a quick question for you. Would you comment on the added weight and the "pocketablility" it the Z600 vs. the T610? I'd like to swap out my T610 for the Z600 due to what I perceive to be poor reception here in NYC on T-Mobile.

Oh, also, how's the Bluetooth performance on the phone? My T610 constantly drops the connection with my HBC-30 handsfree car kit.

Thanks!

I haven't spoken on the phone much, but the Bluetooth system seems identical to the T610's, including the quirks I noticed with pairing headsets.

I suspect any problem you have with the T610 might well be duplicated by the Z600.

In terms of tossing it in your pocket, it's a bit of a mixed bag. It is shorter than the T610, which is great, but it is significantly thicker. Means it doesn't fit as nicely in the pocket of a pair of tighter pants, like jeans.

But I'm not complaining, really. I love it so far.

I'm going to really have to think about this one. Maybe I'll get one from the seller you mentioned above, then Ebay it if I'm not happy.

It's already on sale here in Jakarta, Indonesia with a list price of about USD 365. Sale started yesterday, there's also a nice ad in the local newspaper.
