View Full Version : A tough choice
Hi guys!!
Just a short question. I am upgrading my low-end contract and want to get a free phone on it. The choices are the 5100, 6220 and 6820. I am not going to be replacing my 6600 with one of these phones, they will just be a "back-up" or a phone to use when I go out or something.
What would you go for, I am not to feature specific though the FM radio is cool. Thanks alot guys!!!!
Any and ALL help will be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd choose the 6820 but only because it's worth the most and you could sell it easily for the most money of the three then get something you really wanted (if it's not in that set of three phones they offer you).
If you aren't selling the phone, and want something reliable I think the 5100 will take a pretty serious beating and still last it's time. The 6220 is a bit of a waste of time but the camera is good. If you want a camera then, the 6820 is a decent bet, it looks cool and is worth the most.
It depends precisely what you intend to do with the phone, but I hope that helps.

I'd take all three,
Just kidding.
Go in for what you feel like. I mean if you are going show off by dropping the phone and all then go for the 5100,
If you are going to show off by writing incredibly fast sms then go in for the 6820,
If you are going to show up as a business man then go in for the 6220 (stupid idea as you already have the best business phone 6600!)
My personal choice 6820 (xterme geek value, value, cool looks)
Or you might just listen to your heart and wait and save the money so that you can spend it on a spanking new 7700 or 7610 or (God forbid) Charlie!
I hope I have been of some help ;)
Hey Deviant and Manav
Thanks alot for the help.
So you say the 6220 is a bit of a waste of time?
I think I will go for the 6820, well to be honest this phone is actually gonna be for my mom:) Will sacrifice the stereo of the 5100 and 6220 for the keypad, camera and Bluetooth of the 6820.
Thanks!!!

6820 definitely... 6220 is a step backward to 6600 so no real point. where as 6820 is a different class on its own. and has got a camera as well which is a big thumbs up
Hey
Thanks shaheen, yeah as I said I will not be replacing my 6600, its a phone for my mom. But it looks like the 6820 is getting the thumbs up from everyone.
IS the camera of the 6820 VGA?
thanks!

The 6220 is also only CIF. That said, seeing as the 6230 is cheaper than the 6220 at the moment, see if you can get that instead!
Wow are you serious deviant? Man if this is true in South Africa, I am definitly getting a 6230!!!! SWEEET!!!

I vote for the 6230. It's the most full featured series 40 nokia there is!

Then what is the difference, my 6820 was the 'a' version? On the 3300 it was the difference between a keyboard (3300a) and normal keypad (3300) and probably the three bands it worked on as well.

Well deviant the 6220 Costs 11000 Rs here and the 6230 21000. Its like twice the cost! (400$ = 20000Rs)

Over here, it's £299.99 for the 6230 sim-free/offline (if you can find it) and £329.99 for the 6220 sim-free/offline.

The one who buys it for that much should rather kill himself then existing in the universe!

No way! You can get it for about £200. Expansys have it for around that!

I didn't say you couldn't find it cheaper, but I was talking about high street prices. Dee's original query was about phones on contract, not sim-free. Judging by high street off-line prices you can draw some parallels between that and a contract price on a phone. If their contract is offering a 6820 (still an expensive phone), it's possible the 6230 is there as well.

Hey dee, if you are buying it for your mom why not go in for the 5100 Its lot tougher and I dont think your mom will be using the Keyboard so If she is going to drop or something the 5100 will survive it! But get the 6820 if you are going to sometimes use that phone!

I would (personally) get the 6820 purely to sell it and then let them choose what phone, him/her wanted. Maybe that's just me, but I would do that, the 5100 is worth very little nowadays and isn't all *that* tough (it's tougher, but I've seen a lot of broken ones from normal use).

Hmm, but it would be cool. Anyways ask your mom. Show her the pics and see what she thinks?
Hey
I showed her a picture of a 5100. She reckons that it looks like a sweet! Yeah but I also think that it will be the most functional. As for resale. I dont know about that. Due to the fact that my mom will be useing the phone There is no point in getting a better one than these mentioned. Also the 6230 is not released here yet, and we probably wont be seeing them till end of this year:( That is quite a let down, because she could have then taken my 6600 and I could have had the 6230!
But maybe it is worth the wait? I dont know. Another 4-6 months seems an awful long time to wait for a phone.

Why? Its released here and mine is rotting in the box coz I hate it. Looking for someone to buy it. Its not worth it by that time the 6250 will come out (hey wait isnt tht already there) Anyways get her a SE then!
WOW!
You dont want your 6230? I will take it!!!

Well. It does seem to suck. I wasted my money on it and today was thinking of going to that dealer and giving him my 3660 and 6230 and get a p900!

Well, my 6230 came today and it has a few annoying quibbles but when you think what the phone does, I don't think it matters. Sound-quality is worlds apart from my 6600 which sounded like it was playing underwater most of the time. I managed to scratch the front cover after an hour of having it. Seriously, this phone is amazing, the TFT display is phenomenal compared to the STNs on previous generations (although it is a little dark), sound is fantastic, it's fast and it's light. It also looks cool, and is barely bigger than an 8310.

But you have to admit the build quality does suck! and if you got the silver one then God help you! Other then that it does not have many problems!

I still stand by my decision that the 7200 is more shoddily built than the 6230, though I agree the 6230 does have it's issues (like the keys aren't amazing and there are some gaps in the casing for dust to squeeze past). I think the hinge will die on the 7200 before anything breaks on a 6230 though.

Well, I tried three different models and some display ones and the thing was the same on each. The display ones especially where people had kept opening them it was getting very loose. I think we may as well leave it at the fact that I hate them and won't ever go near one, but like I said so many times, it's my opinion and what fits me may be hated by someone else - at the end of the day, it's you using it, and if you're happy that's what counts.

i dont like 6230 build. you're right deviant, some reason it gets scratched easily, not like my previous phones. it's lens seems.... easily scratchable. i m so stupid to rashly to have taken off that protective lens though
for me the keypads been orite but dust doesnt stop accumulating inside and in the screen
the rest of the build i think is ok but it is very annoying that the build of the phone allows dust to continuallly drift into the cover
maybe i open the front cover too much
I think it is an amazing phone. Though I have never even seen one in real life. We get our phones so late!!! Anyway, you complain about keys. What are they like in comparison to the 6220 keys, 'cause they are HOPELESS!!
Anyway got an entire History paper on WW1 to do now for tomorrow:(

I think 6230 keys are better, no doubt about that....... I had 6220 before buying 6230 and really didn't like those 6220 keys.....
