Have 3 locked the phone so it only works with 3 network or can i use other sim cards with it once the contract runs out or if theres no contract (outright)?
Anymore info on this phone would be greatly appreciated.
It's unlocked to other 2G networks.

Really? I very nearly bought a Three UK e616 but then didn't because forums all over the place were saying it couldn't be unlocked easily and came locked (perhaps it's different in the UK). I also heard it was only £149.99 on PAYG. Then someone else can and said it had to run on a USIM, so I gave up and lost interest eventually.

it does have to use a USIM, if you try and put another UK sim in the phone, all you will get is 'Updating SIM' and you won't be able to use the phone to make calls.
GSM phones use a SIM, 3G phones use USIM's. The only one you are likely to get away with it with is the nokia 7600, which is sold as a GSM/3g combo phone.

Yes, I know all that. That is why I asked because by definition 3G sims are USIMs and hence there are no 2G USIMs. So I was querying how the unlocked to 2G networks would make any difference. And yes, the 7600 works fine on 2G networks I have tried it (but only if you get the software update to prevent it connecting to WCDMA networks which otherwise causes signal loss every few minutes).
