i just got my t616 from cingular. i thought it works worldwide since it's a triband phone. but later i found out that it operates at gsm 850,1800 and 1900. but i wanna use it in china where gsm 900 is used. i know the t610 operates at 900. is it possible i can change it through firmware upgrade? if not, is there anything i can do to achieve this? thanks.

No, it is not possible. It is a hardware issue. Different chips are used, different antenna designs too.

Find a buddy with the T610 and swap :)

The T616 is actually called the T610 in these markets.

t616 is with ATT, and the t610 with TMobile.

T616 actually has better reception in the US than T610, at least my T616(Cingular) works well everywhere i go.

Does the t616 from AT&T work well? I have a 3650 that has been dropped one to many times and was thinking of getting the t616 from AT&T. I have a t68i also from last year with AT&T but the reception was just awful. I'm a little leary of SE phones becasue of the reception. the Nokia gets the best signal I've ever seen. Never a dropped call.

The T616 is ok, but probably not good enough for what you want if the T68i was useless.

In any event, it will not perform nearly as well as the 3650 in that regard.
