Hey Michael/Sid/anyone else,

Was thinking it might be nice to have a service provider section for the forum?

Its just because without them our phones wont work, and its also a good way to meet other people on your same network to trade tips and stories.

We'll think about it, but where do we start? Should we make a seperate forum for each and every US provider? What about the people from the UK and Asia? It starts getting out of control...

Hmmmm..... never thought of that.... my vast intellect is troubled. I will go away and recalculate my calculations.

Have separate forums for major US carriers and major UK carriers, then do a poll for other European/Asian/Australian carriers to see how many people are on each carrier and then do forums for the carriers with the most votes

or just have one forum for all asian/european/australian carriers and separate for UK and US.

Yea but then the asian/european/oceanian carriers out number GREATLY the number of carriers just in the UK and the US. In India there are 15+ major carriers, and the biggest and 2nd biggest carriers in the world are just in China.

That's not true at all. Vodafone is by far the biggest with soemthing like 140 million subscribers. No Chinese carrier has that many subscribers.

Oh, oops. Well its still very large...so you're saying we should just have forums for the carriers of N. America and Europe?

Not at all. I think this idea, while great, isn't feasible because of the sheer number of carriers. The US, one of the smallest markets in terms of number of carriers, is still overloaded. Just look, and I know I'm gonna miss a TON:

Verizon
Cingular
AT&T Wireless (soon to merge with Cingular, but then be relaunched as an MVNO of Sprint PCS)
Sprint PCS
T-Mobile
Nextel
Virgin Mobile (MVNO of Sprint)
Boost Mobile (MVNO of Nextel)
Cricket Wireless
US Wirless
Alltel
CellularOne
MetroPCS
Southern Linc

And then there are TONS of small carriers (regional and local).

there are still a lot less carriers than handsets, and yet the boards cope. Just break it up geographically

I don't see why it wouldn't work or why it would be so complicated. It works on this site (http://www.howardforums.com/index.php?)

I think T-Mobile may be the second biggest in the world with more the 80 million subscribers worldwide.

Ok,
In the next few days I'll make a providers section and we will trial how it goes. It will be divided up into US, Europe, Asia.

Do any of you have ideas for how they should be further divided? We are not going to have a forum for every US/Euro/Asian provider. Just the largest ones.

Maybe you should have sections for Vodafone, T-Mobile (since they have networks in multiple countries) and maybe Orange, then a section for the rest of the US netoworks, another for the rest of the European netwroks, an a last for the Asian ones. Dunno, just a thought.

The problem is that T-Mobile/Voda/Orange are vastly different in each country they are deployed in.

I'd rather have no network sections than 20 inactive ones.

Thats right, howard's pace is very fast. I post there and in 15 minutes max I get a dozen replies. I like the way it is now. We can make seperate threads for each operator in out country and discuss.
