Updating firmware.

is it dat simple? coz in my line.... PDAs wat we mentioned as flash the rom is somewhat like clearing up wats in the ROM of a device, i,e, OS software, then load another newer version which must be supported. it's quite of a risky thing, some could, some couldn't. firmware updating is done jus by online updating a part of the phone. pda's original OS.

Sorry, but a question like that doesn't need a detailed answer.

Simply put, it's loading a new firmware (software/OS, whatever you want to call it) onto the phone usually via computer and cable. You'd want to do this to get improved functionality and iron out bugs in current firmware. It's called flashing (I think) because of the 'flash RAM' you actually update in the phone.

Frankly, if you don't know what it is then don't let it bother you, only the most hardcore of phone users actually do it themselves and usually only in the worst case scenarios (i.e. phone has crashed/corrupted itself).

And I don't think rohan123 was being rude, but it's kind of intuitive if you know a little bit about phones, an awful lot of phone talk on the net is regarding flashing, I guess we just presume most people will know what it is about.

Changing/Messing around with a phone's OS is looking for pure trouble and headache. Save yourself the trouble and get a V600 if you're so desperate.;)

its not the firmware i want it for

the reason i was trying to find out what it is is because i was told if you had unlocked your phone and you then updated the firmware it would get rid of all the network setings

i.e my v500 on orange changed to o2 but now have all the orange bits left behind.

does anybody know another way of correcting this ???

No I think flashing is the only way.
