Here's one. It was taken in Berlin a couple weeks ago, settings: fine, 240x320 px.

Yes I am. Anyway, did you go to CeBIT as well? Hall26 is too big to see all things in just one day.

An interior shot that worked VERY well!

Another interior shot that came together nicely. The camera was sitting on the window sill with the light streaming in behind it.

The following 6 photos are taken from the same location with the camera sitting on a flat surface (no vibration) with the only difference being the photo size.

This one is 480 x 640 normal.

This is 480 x 640 fine.

This is 768 x 1024 normal (cropped to 550 x 733 due to the file limitations of this forum)

And this is 858 x 1144 fine (cropped)

You'll probably notice that the sharpest pictures are the ones taken at 480 x 640. And that there is no discernable difference between fine and normal modes (other than file size)

So although Sharp has produced a 1 MP camera, it is in practice unusable for pictures of that size due to it's lack of clarity. (And this is when the camera is sitting on a stable surface). Photos taken with the camera hand held at high resolution always look crap.

I have performed this test indoors and out several times and the results are always the same.

I'm still experimenting with the phone and finding it's limitations.

One camera limitation I've found is it's extreme sensitivity to vibration. I think the solution to this (other than maybe a firmware upgrade) would be the upcoming Sony-Ericsson's S700 camera phone which is designed to be held horizontally like a camera when taking photos, not vertically like the Sharp. Holding the phone horizontally would definitely help eliminate vibration.

I just installed a 512mb SD card into the phone yesterday so now I'm experimenting with the MP3 player. Its sound through the external speaker is quite remarkable consdiering the speaker's size (though it does lack any trace of bass). I'm looking forward to trying stereo headphones (rather than the single earpiece supplied by Sharp with the phone).

There are several MP3 limitations. There seems no way of creating playlists (which is a real bummer when you're using a 512mb card!). And there's no fast forward or rewind. Simply track skip forward and reverse. And the display will not show remaining track time.

The other phone limitation is the inability to link an alarm to a calender entry. You can have a calender entry. And you can have an alarm. But the alarm will not tell you what it's been set for. It'll just go off on the day or time that you want it and then you have to go to the calender to see what the alarm might be referring to.

Having said that I still think the GX30 is great! The internal display is simply brilliant. Everyone who sees it is blown away. (Especially Nokia users!!) And I love the LED which comes in VERY handy as a torch, and works quite well as a camera flash and it's simply amazing how it can display any of seven different colours (or all seven systematically) depending on who's calling.

The phone has the features I want. I wanted a decent camera, an MP3 player, removable storage, good display, GPRS and a smart, small, lightweight design. There's currently no other phone on the market with these features. (I dare you to find one!) Yes, there's a Sharp with these features (plus a 2MP camera) but it's only available in Japan. And there's the new Nokia 7610 with 1MP camera (but only a 65k display), but it's not available yet anyway.

Probably the one to look out for will be the formentioned Sony Ericsson S700. It has 1.3MP camera and a huge display (though I don't know if it's 262k). Oh, and Casio has a clamshell phone with a 3.2MP camera due out later this year. (That'll be worth waiting for!)

In the meantime Sharp has the market sown up. But because the handset is limited to the Vodafone network, there's a lot of people who won't even know about it.

By-the-way the s700 has got a 265 colour screen and cgs (like your phone) so its 320x240 resolution or the other way around.
I'm definently gonna get it when i up-grade from k700 and also get a symbian phone because my freind brought his 6600 today in school and it was wicked?

Yes sir50pence, I found out after my posting that the Sharp and Sony-Ericsson screens are identical. That's good! If the Sony Ericsson had been available when I bought the Sharp then there's a good chance I would have got it instead.

But I'm very happy with my Sharp and I'll probably wait until a nice 3.2MP phone (possbily the Casio) is available in Australia before upgrading.

I just want a phone with good features like 3d games and stuff.
Like a multimedia phone.
