View Full Version : Some Disappointments about SE T630

Hi!

I have been an active user of Nokia and Siemens mobile phones. I must say that, although Siemens phones does not appear to have a good standing at least in the eyes of mobileburn forum users, Siemens is the best phone as far as flexibility is concerned. I'll talk about this in detail later on in some other post. My current concern is that I recently bought a SE T630. Whilst it has got some great multimedia capabilities, I was very much disappointed with its normal day to day useful functions which are otherwise very common in other phones. I list below some of the problems faced by me and appreciate if someone can comment on them.

1. When a flash message is received (i.e. not directly delivered into inbox but appears on screen), there is no option to save this message.
2. There is no option to save or edit phone numbers on SIM card.
3. My biggest disappointment was for the organizer. It is the worst I have ever seen as against Michael's comments in T630's review that it is one of the best (with due respect to Michael). There is no option for recurrence for weekly, monthly or yearly appointments. Further, alarm for appointments is fixed and is very hard to listen if the mobile is kept in pocket or drawers etc.
4. There is no option to use a recorded voice as ringtone.
5. There is no option that call costs appear on screen during a call or at the end of call.
6. One more biggest disappointment is that number keys can not be set for speed dialing or other functions (i.e. not programable).
7. Sotwares from SE have very limited usage. Some other 3rd party softwares (e.g. FMA) are still in beta stage and not stable.
8. Bla, bla, bla, apart from poor camera and very less memory.

Regards
MA Malik

2. There is no option to save or edit phone numbers on SIM card.

Go to Phonebook and select Manage SIM
This will let you add or edit numbers on the SIM

5. There is no option that call costs appear on screen during a call or at the end of call.

It appears on mine ( i have a Z600, but i dont think its that different) - it shows the duration of the last call. I think on the 610 that had to be set, so check under CALLS.

6. One more biggest disappointment is that number keys can not be set for speed dialing or other functions (i.e. not programable).

Go to Phonebook -> Advanced ->Position List. Put the numbers in the order you want. Then select Copy all to SIM. You can now dial the position number and press call.

If you recieve a call and the person's number is not listed on the sim or the t630, would there be a quick way to save the number and add the name of the caller, similar to that of the series 40 phones of nokia? Just curious, I've only used Nokia phones and sometimes get to borrow the SE phones of my friends. I'm interested in getting the k700 when it gets out.

Smilewarrior - its just as easy as any phone ive used.
Check the calls list (SE shows all calls on one list, although there are also separate lists for missed, dialled, received). Select the number. Add to SIM or phone after that

In my T630 this option is not available. It has only got "Manage Contact" option under Phonebook. I'll check with my vendor to see if there is some software issue.

I think I couldn't explain this correctly. What I mean to say is that a live call cost does not appear during a call, although, I have set the necessary details under Calls option.

Go to Phonebook -> Advanced ->Position List. Put the numbers in the order you want. Then select Copy all to SIM. You can now dial the position number and press call.

Yes, but this is not as convenient as speed dialing (pressing a key for some seconds). Further you have to copy all numbers to SIM, this is a hasle plus duplication etc.

I am really sorry for this mistake. Anyway the fact remains the same about the organizer.

once u set the speed dial u just have to press the location (1 thru 9) then press call. it's probably as fast as your press and hold. read the manual. its written in there.

I have a z600, not a t630. I didnt think they made too many changes between these 2 models - the menu on the z600 and t610 are identical (2 exceptions, but only bc of the form factor)

The z600 i have has firmware R5B001 and some customization for Hong Kong (chinese menus)

there are a lot of problems to argue n complain when it takes count of personal preferences of phone functions.
Complain 1,3,4,7

there are some complains from the lack of adapting or fully knowing how to use the phone.
Complain 2,6

there are some functions which r restricted by certain phone operators or the services u've chosen doesn't support it.
Complain 5

Complain 8, i personally think that the camera makes its memories limited, n bcoz it enables one to send pics, ringtones, beam or beamed; u felt that the 2mb isn't enuf. a nokia 6100 wouldn't hav the sane complain bcoz they restricted the use of the infrared. (cannot send pics, ringtones.. bla bla ) n with 400kb; no one really complains.

Well, I can't say much about the problems with the calendar, since I don't have the phone any more, but since most of the others have been fixed I'd be surprised if the calendar for the T630 didn't have recurring events. But if this functionality was so important to you, why didn't you check it was there before you bought it?

Also, you complain about low memory and poor camera quality even after we provided camera samples and I openly criticized SE for putting only 2MB memory in the T630.

Hi!

The purpose of my post was not to blame anyone. I mentioned these problems for discussion sake only. I specifically gave the reference about the organizer because I give a high rating to the reveiws and veiws published on this site and was really shocked to note the poor build of the organizer.

My friend! I am not a novice user of mobile phones. There is no lack of knowledge on these issues. I say with full confidence (and its already written in T630 manual) that phone numbers on SIM can not be added, deleted or modified. You can only dial phone numbers from SIM or copy numbers to SIM from phone's phonebook. As regards speed dialing, look at the procedure. First you copy a phone number on SIM and for that purpose you have to copy all the phone numbers in the phonebook because there is no option to copy a single or selected numbers, then delete unnecessary phone numbers to save memory (which you can not because there is no option to delete numbers from SIM). Further there is no option to assign positions 1-9 to the phone numbers you want for speed dialing. What a joke? The only option left is that you insert your SIM in some other phone, add your numbers at desired position and then re-insert that SIM into your T630. I know that somebody will try to give me the reference from T630’s user guide.

Although this post will get lengthy it’s worthwhile that I quote some excerpts from the UG to show that how serious SE is about their phones and UGs. Page references are from the UG downloaded from SE site (http://www.sonyericsson.com/downloads/T630_UG_R1a_EN.pdf)

Page 28
Phonebook
In the phone book you can store the information on your SIM card and on your phone. --- [/B]{Not fully true. You can only copy all numbers (no option for one or selected numbers) from your phonebook to SIM. There is no other option to "store information" on SIM.} [/B]

Under the same heading (Phonebook):

Entries saved are stored in your phone's memory, not on your SIM card. ---- [/B](Very true but clearly contradicts what has been stated in the previous para) [/B]

Page 29
Note: Contacts saved on the SIM card are note deleted. [/B](Should be "can not be deleted") [/B]

Page 31
Speed dialing
You can save the phone numbers that you want to reach easily in positions 1-9 on your SIM card. [/B](What a rubbish. Its already clearly mentioned in UG before that a number can not be saved on SIM) [/B]

Page 32
To change positions numbers
1. Scroll to Phonebook, Advanced, Position List. ----- [/B](All the procedures mentioned in this section are for positions in phonebook. There is no way to access and change the positions on SIM) [/B]

I can give some more example of such stupid things in SE T630 and its UG.

Except for 4, these are the most common and useful functions available in almost all the phones of current generation. You can not categarize them as personal preferences.

This function is very well available with my operator and works satisfactorily on other phones. Now please don't say that I do not know how to set it work. Its simply not available in SE-T630.

Phonebook > Options > Ask to save (if you want it to automatically prompt you to save an unsaved number.
OR
From the Calls list > select the number > press the More key > select Save number, then you get the option to save it as a New contact to add to an old contact.

It can be done you probably just don't know how to do it. Change the positions (1-9) then copy all the numbers to your SIM.

Again it can be done. After you change the positions, copy all to your SIM.

Don't say it's rubbish when you yourself don't know how to do it. You're just making yourself look stupid. There's also many T630 users out there that are very satisfied with their phone.

Dear Friend! I don't know about others, but I use both phonebooks (i.e. SIM & Phone) to manage my contacts. What you are suggesting is just duplication i.e. you keep same set of numbers on both SIM and Phone. What's the use and purpose? And every time you copy all your contacts to SIM, it erases all the previous entries. I can not digest this.

As regards your comments that I am making myself look stupid, I suggest you to please bring some decency in your comments. I never give personal comments on others' opinions, nor do I expect this from others (I use 'rubbish' for T630, not for any person). These are personal my grievances about T630. It's upto you to accept them or not but please don't disrespect others.

on the shortcut menu just put the option u want as position 1

if u hav my friends option instead then i cant help u

anyway how come some phones hav 'my friends' and some hav 'my shortcuts'

i5kd2

in the t630 it should be in settings -> my shortcuts. that will allow you to specify the shortcut you want for the stick left.
