Okay, I wasn't really sure where to put this one, I was thinking gossip and rumours, but that's for phones right? (so says the description...)
Anyway. Has anyone heard of the frequent rumours on the 4G iPod? Colour screen, image viewer, 50GB of mem etc. According to the 'reliable' sources of AppleInsider, Apple had been filming a new advert in New York, where it's supposed to be featuring the new iPod. MacRumours recieved that information as well, but nothing on the player. AppleInsider also say that it should have been released on the 28th of april, but people say it's most likley going to come out now in May. (...this is because Apple apparantly releases new products on the iPod line every 6 months. Last time it was November [I think],[and not including the iPod mini], so that means it's May!). Adding to this, back in January, PortalPlayer, the company that makes the chips for the iPods, announced that it had created chips for portable media players to view jpeg and mjpeg files. Just wanted your opinions and stuff, and was also wondering if I should get an iPod now, or wait? Thanks

Oh, well the 3G stuff has nothing to do with 3G phone services, it's just the way Apple names their iPods. Pretty confusing

Eheh:D. So...I've calculated the difference between each iPod update that Apple does and it's usually around 130 days. Last time was in the beginning of January, which mean, it's going to be this month :).

I would also love to know the feasibility of these rumors. I have heard them before, from various sources, and what you listed is in line with those rumors. I am a Mac user. I have an iBook, an iPod, and everything that is compatible with a Mac: Palm OS PDA, for instance, a Sony Digital Camera, and Nokia and Sony Ericsson cell phones. I am definitely waiting to see what Apple does with the 4G iPod. Now for the waiting game.

The rumour probably will come true, sooner or later. Many companies are coming up with concepts or near production prototypes of media devices with gigabytes of memory that can play videos, music and view pictures.
Why would they release a new Ipod now? They just released the Ipod MINI. Now this one. I'm not saying you are wrong cdover. Just that it doesn't make sense.

Yup. But It took a year for the 1G ipod to go to the 2G ipod. Then one year for the 2G ipod to go to the 3G ipod. Now it's already been a year since the 3G iPod. Also theres a new product in the iPod line every 120-140 days. Last time was in January and it's already been 120 something days...

Update: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ has said that the iPod is approaching the end of it's cycle. HOPEFULLY we'll see it soon! :).

Hey. Update:
Apple has finally released the 4th generation Ipod. Too bad it wasn't what I wanted: Colour screen, video player. But hey! Finally it's released, and it's cheaper. Here's the SG Apple shop:

search ipod in www.gizmodo.net for news about the colour screen ipod u want. they got alot of mockups as well. the whole movie playing ipod is still a pretty vague design. couple of reasons. hardware doesnt support it, software doesnt support it cause the ipod is an AAC player not an mp3 player. to have a colour screen a thicker body is needed. like my player.dont go for the "new" ipod if you want a good movie player. get a Iriver PMP100 or whatever in that line. Sony has a few new ones that are mind blowing.
Wow. Apple is almost as bad as SE when it comes to rehashing old models.

Eheh. I never liked the ipod.
Reasons:
When I first bought it, I thought I had bought something that would last me for a long time. However, when I tried to sync music files from my computer to my ipod(3G), it can't do it. The **** iTunes couldn't detect my ipod no matter how many times i restarted the computer, reinstalled the iTunes, replugged the ipod, restarted the ipod, etc. It simply wouldn't recognise the ipod. I was using Windows XP Home Edition at that time btw.
After that, I went to the Apple Care Centre and they replaced the ipod model for me. When I went home and plugged the ipod, iTunes couldn't detect my ipod. I sold my ipod soon after that and bought a Creative Muvo^2 that is good enough for me. It's small, handy, light and affordable.
So I'm warning all you ipod wannabe's to be careful when buying the ipod as it can pose many problems to Windows XP computers like mine.

exactly my point. its not an mp3 player. Can u believe my friend begged his father to send an ipod down from malaysia and he used it for 1 day..1 DAY. and now its just sitting at home. hes not touched it in about a month since that day. Thats how crap it is.
btw: blueberry good choice on the muvo2!. i loved it alot. its super stylish and small. Can u believe that the hitachi microdrive in that player is more expensive than the muvo 2 if bought seperately?.. its a damn nice player.

iPod huh? It's a great Mp3 player, but I don't need 1G! 256MB+FM tuner is more than enough.

A mini iPod? Wow, that was just released. And is it even sold in India? Isn't selling at Apple India.

1GB? iPod has up to 40GB, and the least is 20GB. (...well it's really 10, but they don't sell that any more, along with the 15).

It ain't just an MP3 player! It could be used as a portable HD, a radio, a basic PDA, a voice recorder, and an IR remote control. There's even an accessory that allows you to connect your iPod to your digital camera so you can put pics on your iPod then transfer them to your comp! It's really cool :D. Now I want an iPod :p.

256 MB???
That's barely enough for 1 1/2 CD's!
The 4GB iPod Mini is fine for me... My music collection is around 10 GB, so I can cycle albums on it every now and then :)
2 Days till it's internationally released!

Yea. I was wondering why it's pretty expensive. On the Apple SG Store site it's only SG$90 less than a 20GB iPod.

Transferring images from the digital camera to the ipod is redundant as you could always transfer the images to your computer directly right?:p

I suppose it's used to get extra storage.
And cdover, the iPod mini is expensive because you're paying for the style and miniaturization.

Style? Nah, I prefer the look and feel of the iPod. The feel of the mini is nice (yes I held one before! at the Apple offices in Yio Chu Kang, but was only a dummy version), doesn't feel as solid as the iPod. Oh well, this is all my opinion, so alls cool. :).

Think of this...you're on a vacation, and you run out of room on your memory card for your digi cam, and there is nothing around the corner so you can "develop" the pictures...and there is no comp around you except your iPod...what do you do? If you have that accessory...you can easily free up that memory card and boom, you can take another 500 pics! :p.

haha...on a news story here last night they called the iPod a computer without a keyboard, mouse, or touch screen :p.
Hi Guys, new to mobileburn.. just wanted to say
With the itunes software you can play all the different audio formats there is. Personally if you have actually used the ipod you'd automatically want to change to AAC format as the quality is just as good as MP3's if not better when heard from the ipod. The ipod isn't really used just for listening music I use it to store all my backup documents. You definitely need to have an acquired taste i suppose to appreciate it... although I'd much prefer to have a smaller size player when I go to the gym or something~ thats when i use the my iriver!
